The pridelands of the Tete'boma are seperated into two parts: the Kingdom (the living area) and the outlands (the hunting area). Konokubwa, the previous king, had chosen to set up his pride in such a manner in order to keep rogues out and the pride in. Originally it was a means of protection, but it became more like a prison of seclusion. In the reign of Kibwana, it is more as protection once again.

The Kingdom is seperated from the outlands by various means of defense. It is backed by a wall of boulders, within which are a variety of dens the largest of which is for the royal family. The wall is about a half mile long and three hundred feet deep, so there are plenty of dens for most of the ranking families and the priest as well. A slender line of boulders stretches out from the edge of the back wall, making a sort of impenetrable fence that goes on for another half a mile or so out at a curved angle. It is too high for a lion to leap, though there are crevices that may permit one to slide through. For that reason it is patrolled heavily by the Farasi. At the end of this line, there is a trench that cuts back towards the estuary that makes up the last boundary of the Kingdom. The trench is dotted with boulders and there is a single entrace between a small line of boulders (about a hundred feet) which is guarded by two Farasi at all times. They decide who will enter and who will stay.

Konokubwa was in the process of digging trenches on the outside of the boulders and filling them with brambles, but only made it half way around. The trenches at the entrance had already been filled, and only part of the wall behind the dens had been filled. Kibwana has yet to produce a ruling on whether he would like them to be finished or not. Though he wants to protect his pride, he doesn't want to seclude them from the outside world either.

The land within the Kingdom is beautiful, as an oasis. Green marsh grasses flow into savannah plants and trees are high and green as they dot the few acres that make up the main part of the Kingdom. The earth is moist and the estuary, far enough from the sea to remain fresh and contain mimimal amounts of salt, is a main source of water though there is a spring a short distance off. Groundwater flowing towards the sea breaks through the land so that there is a small waterfall and a crystal clear pool before it slithers into oblivion in the rocks once again. There are few preybeasts here worth catching. Mice and other rodents make there way here and there, and a few jackal families make their homes near the entrance just inside, taking advantage of the pride's offered protection and occasional cast offs, but the bit of land is inhabited only by lions, for the most part. Konokubwa did not allow other big cats to join his pride, and though Kibwana may, interspecies breeding will be rare as not many families will betroth their cubs to cats other than lions.

Outside the Kingdom, the outlands are vast and plentiful. With only a small pride to feed, the herding beasts have thrived in the hunting grounds. Even so, the land near the estuaries here is bountiful with green grass and fresh water so it is natural that preybeasts would flock here. The Farasi and Wenzi do their best to keep out outsiders, but occasionally one may take a kill without permission. Unless they are caught, there is nothing else to be done about it. The Wenzi rarely take young animals unless they are among the sick. They weed out the herds carefully like a gardener, making sure that the strong grow stronger and the herds flourish. There are plenty of trees, though it is no jungle. The trees and grasses, however, do dry out the farther one travels from the estuary. About a mile out from the little river, the land is as it is elsewhere in Africa, but it is so rare that the Wenzi need to travel there, that the situation is moot to them. Though the barren land is apart of their home, the Farasi rarely patrol there, for there is nothing truly in need of protecting. Occasionally, outcasts will attempt to make their home here, dodging the Farasi that do happen to come there.

[ ► History ◄ ]

The Prides history is not well preserved beyond the current line. There is no definite timeline for how long the pride has been around, but Kibwana is the sixth of his line to lead the pride. Years ago, his great-great-great grandfather and his friend took over the pride from an old, failing male. It was quick and painless, as well as relatively uneventful. Kibwana's ancestor took over as King while his friend took over as his Advisor (grudgingly) as they molded the pride to their own devices. The insanity that Konokubwa, the previous Ufalme experienced later in life was not from his father's line but rather than of his mother's. Whether or not his son has inherited that tendency is yet to be seen.

In more recent times, Konokubwa perished in his sleep a number of months before the current time. His wife had passed away sometime before, so this left his grown son to take his place. His first act as king was to 'open the boundaries' to rogues as well as allowing the pridemembers themselves to come and go as they pleased. Within a limited number of weeks, a plague began to sweep through their ranks. Some say it was Konokubwa's wrath beyond the grave, others blame it on the Gods' anger towards Kibwana for changing tradition while others see it as it is, a misfortunate coincidence. Either way, the plague ran its course, decimating most of the pride before it finally died out in quarantine. Because it seemed to have little effect, if any, on other species, Kibwana traded skins in return for a local baboon troop moving the bodies out of the main kingdom to be buried. Now the pride is attempting to move on as well as rebuild from the few of them that remain.

There are mixed beliefs on what allowing new blood into the pride will do, but many are optimistic for the future now, for better or for worse. The Queen has recently given birth to a litter and though they are all girls, it is still strong proof that she is much more fertile than queens past and that she can produce healthy children with her king's assistance. No one doubts that a handsome heir must be born soon.

[ ► Current ◄ ]

Kwini Haiba'sheleli has disappeared. No one knows why or where she went, but the Ufalme has spent weeks in the outlands, looking out over the roguelands and hoping she might return. It has become evident to everyone within the pride that she will not be coming back, and the pressure to find a new queen is once again on Kibwana's shoulders. He may have found that queen in a wandering rogue, Zahara, but what might this second marriage do to the line of succession? No male heirs were produced with his first marriage, leaving a female heir in the wake of the previous queen's disappearance. Where does that leave the Heir Mwana, if her step-mother gives birth to a boy?

Where does that leave the pride? Where might their allegiances lie?

Personality Description Kibwana was carefully groomed for his position as king and though he began life as a joyful cub with a natural rebellious streak, it was beat out of him during his adolescence. He now finds conversations with others difficult if the conversation roams too far from matters of state and pride. Personal matters usually go unsaid, but he's attempting to get over his discomfort. He doesn't want to be the same type of lion his father was and is petrified of being so, afraid the madness runs in his veins as well. In general, he is a kind but silent gentle giant. In battle he would be a fearsome force, due to his size and background, and on a whole he is intimidating, but he would never turn his strength on his pride without good reason. He's not exactly approachable, but he's trying.
