I think Mesa's are better sounding than Marshall's especially if you want a high gain type of sound. I play through both, but it just might be that the mesa is played through a cab, and the marshall is a combo. Anyways, whatever you you get get something of high quality, so you will always be proud to play out of it no matter how much better you get. Don't settle for some cheap line 6 peice of junk, which some people like, but they probably never played through a Mesa stack (or half stack in my case)

Hell, Mesa sounds better then just about everything, but they are also more expensive then just about everything too. I would take a Krank over a Mesa though if I was looking for gain.

Some people are going to hate me for this, but I think the Roland Cubes are a pretty good deal for what they do. Other than that, Marshall, Mesa, Krank and Randall are good if you're looking for high gain. If not, Kustom and some Peavey's have some pretty nice clean channels in my experience.

X2! mesa are dandy and all if you got $3K layin around. Sides even if I DID have that kinda money to blow on an amp I'd still go for a Krank, Randall or Peavey before the Mesa. I've played Mesas so save your remedial crap.
It depends how much money you have to spend. If this is your first amp like you indicate, I'm guessin you don't have a whole lot of money to blow. Which makes its a complete waste of time for people to even bring up Mesa in the first place. Whats your budget like and what tone are you looking for?

By the way if you think Mesa's are remedial, what are you playing through at the moment?

I was talking about the lecture I get from users on here everytime I say Mesa isn't my favorite or if I say it's not a FACT that Mesa (or Marshall) is the best. Currently I'm playing through my dogs hole. Packs a good barky sounds to it. I was thinking of installing some tubes in the ears, but I didn't want to smell burnt hair.

This thread is getting a little out of hand guys, keep it sane or keep it to PMs.
haven't seen any sign of the original poster so It's hard to say what they want for an amp sound. That's the key starting point. If you play rock like Led Zeppelin or AC DC you want a marshall. If you play Dream Theater, iron Maiden or any other serious heavy stuff you want something with a little more guts like a mesa or a randall.
If you want to do laid back rock like the peppers (not that all their tunes are laid back) then you probably want a fender. Basically, just walk into a guitar store with a particular sound in mind and try to find an amp with that sound.
