Welcome to the Korean General Discussion! This is where we discuss everything related to the Korean language, including, but not limited to:
-asking specific questions about Korean vocabulary and grammar (people who can speak Korean fluently can help answer others' questions) -recommendations for Korean dictionaries, websites, etc -and everything else about the beautiful langauge of Korea! 3nodding
Please note that although speaking in Korean is allowed here, it is not mandatory.
Let's start off with a few facts about the Korean language:
Spoken in: Korea, Northeastern part of PRC
Total number of speakers: 78 million
Language Family: unclassified; possibly Altaic or language isolte (i.e. is not related to other languages)
Regulated by: Korean research institute (gungnip gugeowon)

Is Hanja the Chinese character symbols?
I''m prerry sure it is, but if it is, then what is the Korean writing? gonk

I''''m prerry sure it is, but if it is, then what is the Korean writing? gonk hanja is Korean characters, I think it refers to the Korean alphabet, but I''m not sure ninja Chinese characters I think were something else... I don''t remember what exactly sweatdrop

Annyeong! I really don't know much Korean, but I am Korean! sweatdrop I know all the letters of Hangul and therefore I can pronounce what I read, I just don't know what it is that I'm reading. Hopefully, I'll get to go to Concordia this year and learn some stuff . . . confused

Ironically, there are two kids in my English class that are constantly throwing rapid Korean across to each other. My friends are poking me asking me what they're speaking.
I know what it is because it sounds like it, and can recognize it. But I really want to learn it. Just for the knowledge part, and well, one day, to just start joining in on the conversation just to scare them. XD They're good friends of mine.
