It had been a nice day to get out of the house, or at least that's what Elliot used as an excuse. He was getting a case of cabin fever after he stopped a good portion of his side jobs in order to spend more time at home with Todd, so he used the 'cause' as the 'cure.' The park seemed like the best idea, especially since it meant other children for Todd to play with. Socialization was key! Or at least that's what all of the parenting books said.

Said child was busy ignoring his father's ramblings, a talent he had acquired, it seemed, from his other father, Liam. Tunning Elliot out seemed like second nature whenever he rambled to himself, especially when said child's attention was elsewhere. All eyes were on the sandbox, toys and all. He squirmed and complained, until finally Elliot let him go, setting him on the ground and letting him wobble off to the sandbox on his own. Elliot had tried to help, but Todd batted away his hands, he didn't need help darn it!

He plopped down into the sandbox, running his hands through the warm sand, a grin soon crossing his face, making his sapphire eyes light up in the way only a smile of happiness can do. On to the toys and some major playtime!

Naomi's eyes were dark with the lack of sleep she'd been experiencing recently. Ghosts from the past were rearing their heads and she did not appreciate it at all. She needed sunshine and fresh air. And Kaimi needed to be out of the house and out of the yard and somewhere she could really run around. The energy of that kid! Naomi was almost suprised the little girl hadn't chewed on the furniture.

Carrying the squirming dark-haired bundle to the park, Naomi let out a silent sigh of relief to see there were other people there. She felt bad, a little, for hoping that whoever it was would keep her daughter occupied.

Once they reached the park, Kaimi let out an impatient squeal and began to wriggle all the harder. Naomi put the little girl down and waited while she, as usual, stood stock-still and took in her surroundings with wide and curious eyes. Then, as if reaching some sort of inner decision, the little girl let out a satisfied giggle and toddled straight for the sandbox.

There was an orange boy there! With pointy ears and everything! Kaimi grinned, the scent of flowers that always surrounded her growing stronger with her happiness. "Hi!" She said, plopping into the sandbox across from the boy uninvited and smiling cheerfully.

Elliot sighed as he watched Todd become entranced by the trucks and sand, finally taking a seat on a near by bench so he could keep watch over the boy.

Todd was busy at his attempt to make the sounds that trucks make, smashing them into each other with a happy grin upon his face. What luck that somebody would leave these behind for him, and what fun he was having! But his concentration on the 'truck wreck' was interrupted one the smell of flowers slithered into his senses. What a pretty smell!

He glanced up from his trucks, yes his or at least until someone else claimed them, and found a girl sitting before him with a smile upon her face. He eyed the girl for a moment, before his eyes fell upon the large flower in the girl's hair. He grinned, pointing at it with a large smile and a small giggle to his voice, " Pretty!" A boy of few words it always seemed.

A compliment! Kaimi's grin, already stretching her face, grew so bright it could be blinding. Compliments were always a good way to start things off, especially when someone was complimenting her flowers. Instantly taking to the fox-boy, she settled herself more comfortably into the warm sand. "I'm Kaimi. Who're you?"

Naomi approached the bench where Elliot sat, running a hand through her hair. Part of her duty as a parent, she felt, was knowing who the kids her own kid played with belonged to. "Is he yours?" She asked in a friendly voice. The sunshine was already starting to banish some of last nights shadows from her heart, and watching Kaimi chatter happily with the little boy in the sandbox made her smile.

" I'm Todd! I'm a fox! What's your name kid?"
His over used phrase it seemed, or at least thats what it would seem to be until he widened the horizon of his vocabulary. He was happy to have someone to play with in the sandbox, Elliot wasn't one to get into the sandbox with him, unlike Liam who would have been playing trucks in the sand the moment Todd waddled his way in there.

He then turned his attention to the trucks at his feet, grabbing one and offering it to the flower girl with a grin. " Trucks?"

Elliot pushed his glasses higher upon his nose before peering at the woman in front of him. A frown was fixed upon his face for a moment as he wondered what this woman could want from him, until she asked about Todd. His face instantly turned into one of a worried parent, his eyes darting over to the sandbox. "Is he misbehaving?" A quick survey answered this question for him as he saw that Todd was indeed behaving and playing with a girl. Well that answered his other thought of what this woman would want.
He put on his best smile, attempting friendliness, " Why yes he is. Would that be your little girl in the sandbox with him?"

Kaimi took the truck gleefully, making engine noises as she drove it across the sand, liking the patterns that the wheels left behind. "Beep beep!" She crowed, smashing her truck into Todd's and making a satisfying explosion noise. In her mind's eye, she could see the flames and smoke billowing up from the dessicated metal carcasses of the two vehicles.

Naomi nodded. "Yes, thats my daughter Kaimi. Thank god theres someone for her to play with... I haven't had a quiet moment in ages." She shook her head ruefully. "Would you mind if I sat? I wont bother you, I promise." She said it teasingly, a smile on her face that almost reached her eyes, but not quite.

Todd stared in wonder as Kaimi played with the trucks, his eyes widening as she made the sounds of an explosion. He'd never heard that before! He decided to try out the sound, pausing before repeating the noise on his own as he slammed his own truck into hers. He didn't see any explosions, but it was just as good for him that he could make the noises himself.

Elliot could sympathize about children not being quiet, but with Todd it was just the constant noise of Disney movies playing and the constant noise of the boy mimicking the lines that he enjoyed best. " Yea they can be a hand full when cooped up for so long." He smiled softly, scooting over on the bench before patting the space next to him. " Be my guest. Oh and his name is Todd," he nodded in the direction of the boy before holding out his hand to the woman, " Mines Elliot."

Kaimi was delighted that he was making exploding noises too. She increased her efforts, slamming her truck harder into Todd's and making excessive sounds quite cheerfully. After a moment or two, though, she paused and looked at Todd. "Are those really your ears?" She asked all of the sudden in wonderment. She knew he was wearing clothes, but she didn't know if his ears were really pointy like that under his clothes.

Naomi sat gratefully, letting out a soft sigh. "I'm Naomi. It's a pleasure to meet you, Elliot." She set her bag at her feet, stuffed with toys and snacks and the latest psychological journals.

Todd continued to play with the trucks until he finally noticed that Kaimi's attention was on him again. He paused in his play, peering up at Kaimi with his head tilted to the side slightly. He watched her for a silent moment before beaming at Kaimi in response. " Not real!" He tugged down the hood of his outfit, letting her see that he indeed have normal features under the hood. He grinned before pulling the hood back on barely a moment later, he preferred wearing his hood.

Elliot smiled before looking to Todd, arching a brow in question as he pulled his hood back then put it back on. A rare sight indeed. Then he turned his attention to the bag of things, his eyes sticking in particularly on the journals. " Oh! Those are some interesting books you have there." He didn't mean to pry into peoples things, but the mixture of guilt from not having a bag of similar kids things at his own feet, mixed with the surprise of someone with similar tastes as him, he tended to blab when overwhelmed.

Content with Todd's answer, Kaimi grinned at him and turned her attention back to the play at hand. She had decided that, while trucks were all well and good, it would be terribly fun to dig some holes for the trucks to fall in and maybe some tunnels for them to go through. She began shaping the sand awkwardly, adding a few mounds representing houses that could be run over.

Naomi flushed slightly, but smiled. "I'm taking a leave of absence from my practice, but I thought I might bring these along just in case. I can at least attempt to keep up with any new developments in the psychological field." She refrained from an embarrassed excuse as far as the excessiveness of her bag, with all the little toys and snacks and even, down at the bottom, a little first aid kit just in case.

Todd watched Kaimi shape the sand, in awe at her ability to do so. " How do that?" He turned his gaze to the sand below him and began to dig a hole in an attempt to mimic her. However, all he seemed to do was make underground tunnels, like the ones that animals live in. He huffed at his work before turning his attention to Kaimi again, trying his best to learn from her.

Elliot grinned in response, " At least you're keeping up while gone, that is a wonderful thing to do. I read whatever I can get my hands on really, but only for my own personal enjoyment really." Truth be told he liked the field, it interested him greatly, but he had decided that working along with Liam and odd jobs here and there was a better idea for him to do. That and the pressure that he couldn't really deal with. he sighed before smiling again. " Where's you practice, if you don't mind me asking?"
PostPosted: Wed May 07, 2008 10:49 pm

"Just... make a bump." Kaimi said, grinning, and then saw his own attempts. She could dig holes, but she couldn't make tunnels underground! "You're good at that!" She exclaimed. Then her eyes narrowed a little, thoughtfully. "I wonder if we could dig underground tunnels big enough to play in..." There was definitely a glint of mischief in her golden eyes. And indeed... there didn't seem to her to be any reason why they wouldn't be able to dig lots of tunnels to run around in. Especially since Todd already knew how to make underground things.

Naomi smiled, her blush receding for the most part. "My practice is actually on earth." She murmurred, unsure of the reception that would get. "I... live here. But I practice back on my homeworld."

Todd paused, looking down at the holes he had made then back up at Kaimi. " Tunnels?" He thought hard about that before gasping as he came to a realization. " We tunnel to China! Just like on TV!" Without another word he began to make the hole he had dug larger, tossing the excess sand to the side of the sandbox. " We get there, promises!"

" On...Earth?" Elliot paused, his eyes almost trailing up toward the sky as if he would be able to see the planet. He had heard about this other planet of sorts where billions of people lived in a world much like their own but less...magical, if he were to use such a phrase. " Thats awesome! I've never really met someone from Earth before! Was your break what brought you to this world or," he trailed off, his attention upon the kids, his brow arching in curiosity as he watched Todd digging in the sand. What as he up to now?
PostPosted: Wed May 07, 2008 11:21 pm

China! Kaimi had no idea what China was, but it sounded terribly exciting. Without a word, she threw herself at the hole with Todd, digging enthusiastically and letting the sand fly where it would, not caring wether it landed in her hair or on the grass. They'd get to China, whatever it was.

"I came here to... look for someone" Naomi began, and then her attention was caught up by the furiously digging children. "Oh dear... this is going to mean another bath." She muttered, unable to suppress the grin that crossed her face.

Todd grinned at his friend, yes friend he had deemed her as such, before returning to his work of digging, becoming less worried about where the sand landed as well. " China have nummy food! And Daddy Eli say really neat stuffs too! Dragons!" He kept digging, the sand beneath his fingers becoming damper, and colder until he reached something jet black and plastic looking. He paused, a brow arching in question. " That not China."

Elliot groaned, his palm connecting with his forehead. He agreed that this digging would lead to a bath, and Todd wasn't exactly a fan of baths. Baths meant getting naked, which meant taking off his fox suit, which meant a tantrum. All things Elliot didn't exactly want to deal with. " Good lord."
