Sun shone through the trees, glittering and casting shadows upon the small foal's form. There the young uni sat, staring at the grass with a very confused look on his features. He was obviously contemplating something, what, nobody really knew because foals had so many things going through their minds. The wind blew, ruffling his short mane and thin coat but even that didn't move him, Shade continued to stare at a single blade of grass. He hadn't come out of his basket too long ago and he wanted to crawl right back in it, everything was so confusing in this big world! The grass was green, the flowers were plentiful, assorted and all different colors and yet... he didn't even glance at them.
His father... or at least the stallion he thought was his father... didn't seem to love him very much. He'd heard kind words, cooing and soft laughter when he was in his basket but now he didn't know what to think! The world was too big and nothing made any sense so... he wanted back in his basket before anymore troubles were brought upon him.
Trouble or not, he was done sulking, he felt so alone and lost... sitting here in this field. He wanted his daddy, even if his daddy was a little confused about the entire situation. So, finally moving his head, he looked around the meadow, spotting "Dad" quickly.
With a slightly wobbly trot, Shade made his way over to him, hoping he could hide behind him in case a stranger came by. Not only that, he just liked being near his father, he felt all warm and bubbly inside, loved... happy... and that was the way a little colt was supposed to feel... wasn't it?

Everhart wasn't there when the baskets had popped. Thank goodness for that. He didn't think he would be able to look at the new siblings. For some reason, he knew that this would just be trouble for him and this situation was exactly what he was trying to avoid. He wasn't exactly sure what he thought about his new brothers and sisters. Everybody seemed ecstatic about them but... Everhart seemed less then happy. He had met the little things but he didn't really get to know them yet. Who knew, they might be better then he expected.
Turning his head slightly, the stallion noticed a bright foal walking his way. Frowning, he recognized it as one of his brothers. Everhart watched the colt as it approached, his frown getting more and more pronounced. This... thing was scaring him. It thought he was his dad! Last time he had checked, Everhart wasn't a father and this was confusing him so much. Though, he didn't want to run from Shade or anything. They were still blood related and Everhart couldn't do that to any of his family no matter how uncomfortable he was.
Spook had been wandering around close by to where Shade and Everhart were. Bouncing through the flowers, she was so happy to be free of her basket constraints. It felt so nice to stretch her legs and feel the heat of the sun on her face. This little foal seemed to be a mirror image of her mother except darker. She was so proud to be like her because she loved her parents so much. Tilting her head, Spook noticed a large blue figure in the middle of the meadow. Grinning widely, she recognized him to be one of her older brothers.
She began to gallop towards Everhart continuing to grin. Spook really hadn't gotten to know Everhart but she knew that he was a little... different from her parents.
((NOT DONE. D<))

Bright sky, open field, everything was perfect that day. The sun shone down from the sky, bright and warm like a massive fire burning in the sky. Wind rustled the blades of grass and leaves of trees, it was there but not overbearing, it was pleasant. Of course, Shade had no time to care about such things because he was well... sneaking toward his father, the only thing on his mind was showing up beside him. His lion-like tail flicked around behind him as he slowly bounced in the right direction, on his face was an expression of happiness, glee perhaps, rightness. There was no wrong doing in this innocent endeavour, or at least that was what the foal believed, he was just worshipping his father like all little ones did.
Except, the little colt stopped in his tracks when he saw his father for upon his face, as soon as he looked at him... was a nasty frown. Was he so terribly wrong or deformed that he made his own father frown with digust? Saddened, the colt tried to look himself over, a long tail... like Dad's, black hooves, purple tummy... He attempted to look underneath himself to see his rump, but soon found his body in a toppled heap on the grass. Okay, so that didn't go as planned but... he seemed normal, was he normal? That was when Shade spotted her, the silly winged critter jumping about on the other side of Dad.
Now he was scared, what if the winged creature wanted to be... to be friends! He shrieked with horror, sounding much like a little girl and ran up behind Everhart, wrapping his tail around his leg for some form of comfort. "Dad..." the little colt whispered as he peered out behind the grown stallion's strong legs. "You don't think she's evil do you... she has... she has... y'know..." Shade pointed with his horn at her and gulped. There was no need for fear though, Dad would protect him.... right...?

It was a nice day... But Everhart had bigger problems on his hooves. He tried to ignore the little colt that was sneaking up on him but he couldn't help but steal glances at Shade. But then Spook began running towards him. What the hell? Both of them at once? He didn't want to see them! He was much too busy worrying about himself. Gazing at Shade, Everhart smiled hesitantly. "Uh. Hello..." Raising his brow, he wasn't sure why his brother was hiding behind him and ... why was he calling him dad? Last time he checked, Everhart was definitely not a father... Everhart didn't even bother contesting it because he was too occupied with his little brother and sister. "Uh... I think she's fine... She's your sister... you know..." Maybe he should mention that he's not Shade's dad either...
Spook grinned happily as she looked at her two brothers. "Hello!" She loved her family a lot and she enjoyed spending time with them. Even though she had only just emerged from her basket, Spook had gotten the hang of her legs quite quickly. Tilting her head, the filly stared at Shade curiously. "Uh, I'm not scary..." Why was he acting this way?

His sister? No, Dad was definitely confused, or maybe he was trying to confuse him... that thing had strangely shaped things on its back! It definitely wasn't no sister of his. Not that he would have minded a sibling really, being curled up in a basket for so long got awfully lonesome. No matter, he had Dad now, and he wouldn't have to worry about a thing!
As trusting as he was, Shade believed his "father" when he said the thing was fine. Obviously it was a little strange but if Dad didn't think it was life threatening it must have been safe. Still, feeling shy Shade stayed behind Everhart and peered out at the strange little flutter. Something felt heavy inside him, he'd soon come to realize this feeling was guilt, for being so terribly rude to a completely curious and safe being. At that moment he didn't know what the feeling was so he ignored it.
The girl seemed to confirm his suspicions, telling him that she wasn't scary! Well, he begged to differ but it wasn't like it was lying to him. So, trusting what everyone around him told him, he nodded and whispered shly, "Uh.. uhm... hi..." That probably wasn't the proper way to greet somebody but he hadn't quite learned formalities yet.
