Behind the counter a waitress pours coffee
Her smile is as warm as this Waffle House
She speaks in tongues
and smacks her gum
She says 'Boys, I'd rather be somewhere else'
The cook wipes his hands on a dirty brown apron
Composes his head with a pocket comb
And the stale smoke still hangs in the air
From a stampede of drunks who've all gone home
We break down the stage and carve our name into another night
I could say more than this postcard gives me room to write
Greetings from the verge of daylight
The truckers sit, sipping their sleep away
Getting ready for the long haul
As we stare at the menus that never change
Clay orders his usual
We break down the stage and carve our name into another night
I could say more than this postcard gives me room to write
Greetings from the verge of daylight
She starts to wipe tables, he starts the stove
and the both fade into the unseen
And the fluorescent moon that hangs above us
Becomes the light by which we all dream... (and we dream)
We break down the stage and carve our name into another night
I could say more than this postcard gives me room to write
Greetings from the verge of daylight
The verge of daylight

Georgia! The Peach State, Empire State of the South!

Quiz: What fantastic company came from Georgia? (Avondale Estates, Georgia to be exact)

Yeah! Coke... that came from Atlanta... think of a different one...

That's right!

The Waffle House.

Have you ever been to Atlanta? Because Waffle Houses are everywhere! If you're a kid who lives in Atlanta, you HAVE to eat at Waffle House at least once. Its part of the experience of growing up there.

You walk in... in front of you in a jukebox and next to it is a newspaper tray, but you can't see that yet. A little further are a few booths. To your right is the counter, there's a booth by that too, along with a line of chairs. You turn and look at the counter, and to your left are more chairs and booths, then a hallway that leads to the bathroom.

This is where our friends spent their Saturday nights.

They all lived near the Waffle House, and consequently each other. It was a friendship of convenience, because they could meet up there and then head out. But it grew to so much more than that.

They became true friends, and some even fell in love with one of the others. It couldn't last though...

They were all going off to different colleges, different lives, different cities. One girl stayed behind through the year they were gone.

The next summer they came back. But to the girl they were completely different people.

This is where our story begins kids.

The Artist: You do know that Georgia has cranked out plenty of good artists right? Well this little Missy is one of them! She went to a fantastic art school in Boston! Her family's rich, so she lived the furthest away from the Waffle House, but not far enough to escape the lure of the big yellow sign. So she went there a lot, and ran into the others.

The Musician: REM, Josh Joplin Group, The B-52s all came from Georgia! This boy is on his way up too. He's just come back from good ol' California, all tanned and nice. He lived right next to the Waffle House, so he walked there nearly every day. Sometimes he'd bring his guitar along and play for the employees and customers.

The Politician: He's a smart guy. He plans on being president one day, and some people think he might just succeed. He's just come back from Harvard and he isn't less good looking. He's charming, he's sneaky, and he lived down the street from the Waffle House. His family was wealthy like the Artist's and he always took the group's checks.

The Southern Belle: She's the sweet one. She's the pretty southern girl who's smarter than she looks... and acts. Her father runs the Waffle House, and she lives right across the street from it. She works part time there as a waitress, and went to college in Atlanta. She hasn't changed in the year that the group has been separated, so how will she react when the people come back with a whole new pack of ideas and plans for their lives?

Fill this out! Bold and color as yah please ^.^
Hey y'all, my name is (name)
And I'm (age, preferably 19-20)
Oh, like the nametag? It says (Role)
My life? Well... (bio)
It's made me (personality)
Any friends that I liked? (crush)
And a picture? Sure! Here.
(pic)

Hey y'all, my name is Charline 'Charlie' Johnson
And I'm 19 years old.
Oh, like the nametag? It says the Southern Belle
My life? Well... my life has been pretty nice. I've grown up in a nice happy family of five, and I help out of my dad's Waffle House. My brother's the cook, and my baby sister doesn't have a job there yet. She's only thirteen. I worked there most Saturdays, so I didn't go to many parties. But there were other kids like me who didn't go, although it probably wasn't because of their jobs, because they were at a Waffle House! They came at different times, but eventually they came at the same times. It was weird, because we all started talking. My dad hired another girl, and I was allowed more breaks. So I talked to the kids. It was really fun! But last year they went away, and I'm stuck here going to college and working at my dad's Waffle House...
It's made me outgoing. I make friends easily, and I have the best smile south of the Mason-Dixie Line! I can cook really well, and I make the best grits y'all have ever tasted! I'd rather eat here than at one of those fancy restaurants. My boyfriend, Dave, doesn't seen to understand this, because he takes me out all the time! The Melting Pot, J Christophers, it gets annoying having to dress up every Friday night just for him.
Any friends that I liked? Well... I did have a crush on the Musician for a while, but I'm dating someone else.
And a picture? Sure! Here. Not my best, just me hanging out at The Musician's place.

Hey y'all, my name is Abigail 'Abby' Jettisons
And I'm 19
Oh, like the nametag? It says The Artist
My life? Well... Right after high school I went to Boston to major in the arts. In Boston it was very hard to find a Waffle House. When I did, it wasn't the same. My old friends weren't there. My father said that I could go to any school I wanted so I did. The hardest part was leaving. I missed my friends but I did make a lot of new ones. My roommate is the craziest person I have ever met. I guess she was one of the reasons why I had changed some much. In high school, I was a little shy and didn't like to really talk to anyone. All I cared about was drawing. The only people I really did talk to was the friends I had made at the Waffle house.
It's made me be myself in front of people. From where I used to hide myself from strangers to now where I greet everyone with a big hello and show them who I really am. At college I've learned how to pick out my inspiration even faster then I used to. It's made me look at things in a whole different perspective. To me, I think my change is good but to the others……who knows.
Any friends that I liked? The Politician. In college I dated a few guys but always thought of him. I remember him as being sweet, kind and considerate to others. One day he will be president and I will be the one of the many voters to vote for him because he deserves it.
And a picture? Sure! Here. My roommate is a major in photography and she wanted to use me as her first test subject because she really liked my hair.

Hey y'all, my name is Joel Monaghan, but you can call me Jo, or if you want to make me feel famous, Jole. In the business they call me, "Jole from the South". Kinda simple, but it has a ring, doesn't it?
And I'm 19, going on 20 in about 2 months.
Oh, like the nametag? It says "The Musician".
My life? Well, I've lived most of my life right here in this little town, just next to the Waffle House on the lane. I loved passing by there every day, the smell coming outta that place was amazing, I'll tell you that! As nice as it was, though, I've always had bigger dreams than this place, and last year I set off to find my fortunes in good ol' California! I'm doing quite well for myself too, my agent says I'm just a star waiting to be seen... But I reckon it was about time I came back for a visit. See my parents, catch-up with friends... It's been a long while, but nothing's changed!
Living in California, it's made me much more confident, you know? Before I used to be fairly quiet, and I felt pretty timid to get my music out there. I mean, shucks, I couldn't even ask out the girl I liked back then - but hey, that's all in the past. Now I'm brighter, happier and even more awesome than ever!
(And what's more, I can pick up any chick I want...)
Any friends that I liked? Well, I used to have a thing for a friend of mine... She was the arty one. She always made me smile, and when I was with her I felt... You know, at home. Ah, but that's gone now. I'm living the high life, baby, I don't need to try so hard to get people's affections anymore.
Speaking of which, I always though that little Charlie had a bit of a thing for me...
And a picture? Sure! Here. My friend took this backstage at one of our gigs, and I've always liked it the best. I'll even sign it for you if you want...

Hey y'all, my name is Tobias (Toby) O'Brien
And I'm 20
Oh, like the nametag? It says the Politician
My life? Well... It's been a wild ride. I'm busy as hell with college, didn't spend my time partying (like some people I know). My parents raised me with money, I grew up living the good life. Can't cook worth crap, I haven't had a girlfriend in for EVER, but... Well, I can't wait for another fifteen years. Then, I'll be prez, and you all will be answering to me. Didn't work much through college, Mom and Dad kindly covered all the expenses... Just for their little bugger of a politician, I suppose.... But I can't say I've got a problem with it. I like being loudmouthed. Would you believe I grew up as the quiet, insignificant one? Lots has changed since then, that's for sure. CHECK OUT MY TAN!
It's made me cocky, but intelligent. I'll have a battle of wits with you, prove you wrong, AND win a debate, all at the same time.
Any friends that I liked? I always like our little Southern Bell. But she'd never love a fella like me.
And a picture? Sure! Here.

o1. I'm God! Obey or feel my wrath!
Diet Coke
o2. Be semi-literate to literate! Don't forget to use capitalization and periods, question marks, and exclamation points! Literacy has nothing to do with post length and everything to do with grammar. Here, it's passable spelling, and me being able to understand what the hell you just wrote. No chat or l33t, though. At all.
for reservations
o3. Don't use *...* or -...- for actions!! And use "..." when speaking.
Cherry coke
o4. Use (), (()), [] or something like that for when speaking OOC. Like, ((OOC<))
for profiles
o5. Do not post unless accepted by me! Get it, got it, good.

o6. If you don't know what grits are, go look it up. Please don't ask what they are in the middle of the RP!

o7. Don't write in bright, bright colors like yellow. And don't write in pale colors like linen. Ick. You can colour your posts, just don't make them so blinding they glow.

o8. There is a specific way to write your profile. First person.

o9. PM the profile. Highlight the post.

1o. Don't join if you're not going to Rp. Or at least tell me if you're gonna be away so we can work it into the plot.

11. This is going to be Long Term so, post at least every two days otherwise I'll PM you and if you don't PM me back within 3 days, then I will delete your profile.

12. Girls can play guys, guys can play girls, whatever.

13. Y'all follow the ToS and guild rules, dammit. I don't want to kick you out, I don't want to be kicked out, and i don't want any banning taking place.

14. Don't post your pictures with every post. If I forget what your character looks like I'll go look at the menu. It has pictures of all the nice foods on it.

15 Pictures are to be real life people. Yes, all of them. Because I said so. I don't care if they're celebs, but they have to be of an actual person.

16. Please don't post unless you are a part of the roleplay. I hate it when random people come in and are all 'Ha! b***h, I sooo posted! Muahahahahaha!..... gold?'. If you're one of those people, then go die.

((yes, these rules are borrowed from nEOROTIC_nARCOTik))

Charlie was sitting on the jukebox. The jukebox had been broken forever, but no one had thought to fix it. She whistled softly, looking up. There was never anything to do on breaks anymore. She didn't feel like eating waffles right now, she didn't even want hash browns!
She sighed, then looked up as her brother, Perry, came over.
"I'm fixing it." He proclaimed. "So get off before you break it even more."
Charlie slid off, then watched as Perry got down to open the front panel. He handed her the quarter box, which was full from people ignoring the 'out of order' sign.
Charlie took over for Perry as cook. There wasn't much business so it was easy going. She kept her charming smile on as she served the customers.

This was it.

Jole couldn't stand it. The harsh sunlight was beating down on his face with every step he took along the uneven pavement. He counted his short, uneasy breaths as he walked, trying desperately to ignore the terrible thoughts rattling around in his head.

What if she's there?

He turned a corner, and stopped short. The lane was so familiar, so comforting, and yet so terrifying.

What if she isn't there?

He forced himself to take a few more steps, but stopped abruptly when he caught a glimpse of himself in the car parked on the edge of the road.

Look at you. Look, it's Jole from the South.

He admired his toned physique, his short, cropped hair, his stylish clothes that screamed out to be noticed.

I'm a star.

Jole smiled. He brushed his hands through his golden hair, and then continued down the lane. Now his steps were purposeful, confident.

So maybe she will be there. Wait 'till she sees me. She won't be able to keep her hands off me.

Finally, he stopped once more outside the door to a faded old diner. The sign outside declared that he'd arrived at The Waffle Hou_e in faded white letters. Nothing had changed.

He peered warily through the window. Inside, a few dark shapes were sitting at tables, and one seemed to be crouching on the floor.

What on earth are they?...

The jukebox! Good ol' Perry!

Jole smiled as a wave of relief crashed over him. Perry was his old best friend's brother, and if the worst came to the worst, he felt he could always rely on Good ol' Perry for a warm welcome.

A sharp breath, and a pause.

Jole reached for the door handle and swung open the door with a subtle tinkle of the bell.

Perry backed out from the jukebox, slamming his head into the wood. "Shite!" he seethed.
Charlie looked up, smiling. "Welcome!" Her smile widened, "Jole!" She got out from behind the counter.
"Jole?" Perry smiled crookedly at Jole, rubbing the back of his head. "Great, I won't need to fix the jukebox then."

Jole laughed nervously. His eyes were intent on searching the room for Abby, but even so he couldn't help lingering for a moment on Charlie. It had been so long since he had seen that face, smiling back at him...

His mind snapped back into place. "Yeah, nice to see you too bud," he joked, giving Perry a hearty slap on the back. "Glad to see you're being kept busy."

And then there was Charlie. She's stepped out from behind the counter, and Jole saw her fully for the first time. She was just the same as ever, only... Something had changed. Her eyes shimmered in the haze of the sun as she came forward to give him a hug.

"Charlie..." he began, a huge grin spreading across his face. She was gazing at him, straight into his eyes. He couldn't contain the feeling rushing back to him, to see his best friend stood there once again. "It's so good to see you, Charlie!" he sighed, and they embraced each other, her grip tight around him, his eyes still searching the room over her shoulder.

She's not here. Thank god for that.

They let go. Jole took a step back and smiled happily. "Well, not much has changed around here," he said, looking back at Perry, who was now kicking the side of the juke shut. "But you," he said, turning back to Charlie, "You look awesome, babe! How are you doing these days?"
PostPosted: Thu May 08, 2008 6:55 pm

"I'm doing pretty well. And yeah, everything's pretty much the same." She sat on the jukebox, earning a playful slap on the arm from Perry. "How about you 'Jole of the South'?" She grinned.
Perry smiled, watching his sister and her friend, then went back behind the counter. "Coffee right? Usual prep?"
Charlie swung her legs slightly, looking out the window. She wondered if she should mention her boyfriend, but it would seem awkward dropping that in the middle of a conversation. They'd meet eventually anyways. No way to avoid that.

"Yeah, cheers - oh no, wait," he called back hastily after Perry, who had already begun to fill the cups. Perry looked back over his shoulder curiously.

"You wouldn't have decaff by any chance, would you, bud? I'm on a health kick. Gotta be done when you're getting to the top." He grinned at the bemused expression on Perry's face, and before he recovered from the shock enough to answer him Jole added loftily, "Oh, and no sugar, neither, it's murder for your cal count." Leaving Perry shaking his head in disbelief, he turned back to Charlie, who wasn't quite quick enough to hide the expression of confusion she was wearing.

"So, you heard about it, then?" beamed Jole, not missing a beat. "Yep, I'm living the big life now, sweets. You wouldn't believe how pretty the place is, Charlie. And you think it's hot today?" He nodded towards the baking sun still streaming through the dusty windows. "Let me tell you, you still have to wear sunblock in winter over there," he said knowingly, leaning back against one of the tables. He turned to look back at Perry, who was muttering to himself whilst busying about the coffeepot.

"Oh, and the babes," he said suddenly, a very sincere look crossing his face. "I mean, they are HOT," he said, and his eyes stared into the distance as if gazing at a group of girls pinned right to the old faded walls.

"Yes, sir, they are mighty fine," he added quietly. An awkward silence followed.

"Anyway, you got someone taking care of you these days?" he suddenly asked, his eyes leaving the phantom girls and fixing themselves firmly on Charlie. There was a pause.
PostPosted: Thu May 08, 2008 7:20 pm

"Yeah, I have a boyfriend." She smiled warmly as she remembered him. "He's in my English class." She was shocked at his sudden change in coffee tastes, but that's what a rock star does... twittle over calories and caffeine. She took the coffee that Perry handed her, cream and sugar, and took a sip.
Perry went back to fixing the jukebox. He tucked a quarter in, grinning. He quickly typed in a number and let the music play.
It was one of Jole's songs!
Charlie giggled. "We got the new records last month."
