A quaint little diner near the outskirts of London. The owner, Doris, has been selling coffee with the best of them since the 70's. Many of her more loyal customers were a part of the First War, sadly quite a few of them aren't around to enjoy the Joe anymore. emo

He pushed open the door to the old diner and peeked inside. It looked rather worn, but cozy in an odd sort of way, and the smell that drifted towards his nose was odd but alluring. It beat McDonalds anyways, with its suspiciously shiny floors, bright, cold interior, and gigantic cardboard picture of a clown who looked like it was going to come to life and rape you any second.

The door closed with the sound of a bell, and a some of the few people inside looked over at him and stared for a second or two, before returning to their food or coffee. Godfrey was wearing his pins that disguised his ears and tail to all but magical folk as usual, but it was likely the random appearance of a boy, bundled up against the weather in a coat that made him looks a lot like a prim schoolboy that was of slight interest.

There appeared to be no sort of 'wait to be seated' policy, so he walked over to an empty booth and sat down.

A plump woman in her fifties appeared so quickly by his side with a menu, that he jumped a little, but then beamed at her and, after a quick peek inside the menu to see if they had what he wanted; he ordered a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a large chocolate milk.

The only thing to do now was wait, and he did so, clasping his hands together on top of the table. He glanced around the diner as he waited for his chocolate milk, and when the woman brought it, he sipped at it slowly and continued to observe the place curiously, listening to the sounds of what might have been his meal cooking.

He didn't normally get to go out like this since he'd been in Hogwarts. Studying and practicing took up much of his time, and he'd had to devote his weekends to homework and spell practice in order to be able to have some semblance of a social life at school. His secret 'pen-pal' helped him a lot when it came to conquering spells, giving him tips and tricks that he'd learned himself over his lifetime, things other students might likely not know. It did help ease the work load, but he still felt he had a long way to go. Today, however, he'd felt randomly stir-crazy, feeling like he was going to blow something up if he didn't get out of the house. So he'd spent about an hour or so just walking around London, and when he got hungry, he'd started to look for a place to eat, and found this little run-down diner.

Joshua walked down the street, his Hufflepuff scarf firmly around his neck to keep back some of the cold. It was warmer than it had been lately, but that wasn't saying much, and the wind had been off and on all day. Joshua's mohawk even seemed bent out of shape- not a normal occurence, so that spoke something of the wind.

He had been walking around all day- he often found time to walk around London, as he didn't have many friends to speak of and didn't like practicing spells or doing homework during the day. He had only a few dollars left in his pocket, and his stomach seemed to be hinting at getting food.

He knew the area well, and immediately turned to cross the street at the crosswalk, heading towards an older area with a few restaurants he enjoyed going in- better than the brightly lit fast food joints, or the crowded and expensive places on any main road.

Josh had been looking at the ground as he walked to keep the wind out of his face but as he neared the restaurants he looked up- the first restaurant was a nice diner, relatively small. Glancing in the glass windows in the front, he nearly tripped over himself. Even with out the pointy fox ears, there was no mistaking- Godfrey was sitting in there, sipping a chocolate milk and looking very out of place.

Joshua couldn't help but crack a huge grin, immediately going inside, the pleasant tinkle of the bell over the door betraying his entrance. He hardly noticed the onlookers though, quickly seating himself on the opposite side of Godfrey, still beaming. He ran a hand over his hair, loosening his scarf a bit. "Hey... don't I know you from someplace? You suuure do look familiar."

"Josh!" Godfrey, once the milk was safely pushed to the side so he wouldn't spill it, engaged Josh in a 'launch-across-the-table, arms-around-the-shoulders' hug. He tended to greet people he hadn't seen in more than three hours in this manner, and after a moment he let go and settled back into his seat, grinning at his friend. Godfrey glanced at Josh's hair for a moment and raised an eyebrow.

"A bit windy today, eh?"

He'd ignored the bell when he first heard it, because someone'd carved a tiny image of something onto the table... from what he could see, it had something to do with a turtle, a corn dog, and a rabbit, and it was quite vulgar. His elbow was now covering it up as he set his chin in his hand and pulled his milk back over towards him and began to sip at it once more.

"Did you stalk me here? Been following me around London and waited outside a bit so it didn't look suspicious?"

He grinned teasingly, but really he was rather glad to have some company. He decided right then and there he'd have to make a bigger effort to free some more time to hang out. For the past few weeks his impatience with being stuck inside studying had increased as it started to get a little nicer out. He wanted to be outside! He wanted to hang out with friends! And for Merlin's sake, he wanted to find some time to go visit certain people that he'd been meaning to see again.

"And, hey, why don't I buy you lunch? Since you obviously went through all the trouble of stalking me. S'the least I can do."

He grinned again, and then turned a bit to see if he could wave down the waitress, but he barely put his hand up when she appeared at the table, making him twitch again. She handed Josh a menu, and looked expectantly at him.

Goes a bit warm in the face over the enthusiastic hug-attack, awkwardly putting one arm around Godfrey and sort of patting him on the back before he pulled away. He really hoped he wasn't blushing or something silly like that- of course, he could always just blame the cold.

"S'pretty window... it's certainly been worse though, heh." Fusses with his hair a bit more, hoping it didn't look too bad- usually he wasn't this self conscience about it, but he kept having horrible thoughts that it looked like it did in the morning- that is, a jumble of gnarled insanity.

"And of course I've been stalking you! What, you think I have something better to be doing? You really oughta cover your tracks better... make it at least a bit harder for me." Laughs, pulling his scarf off and sitting it on the booth next to him.

"Oh, you don't have to.. I mean, I have money, at least enough for food and... oh." Takes a quick glance at the menu, hating to be slow at picking out food. "Urr, I'll just have the soup of the day and a Sprite, please..." Hands the menu back, the waitress bustling off to inform the chef of his order.

"So, like.. what are you doing here anyways? Kind of a random place to be eating or whatever... and by yourself, too. Now that..." points an accusing finger at Godfrey, "seems rather more suspicious than me finding you here. Maybe."

Godfrey, with one eyebrow still raised, watched Josh fiddle with his hair. It looked just fine, but he seemed to be bothered that it'd gotten messed up, which was pretty amusing. Godfrey liked watching Josh fiddle with his hair, however. And he liked to poke at it too. It was so fun, the way it'd spring back up when he pushed it down. Remembering the last time he'd had unlimited time to play with Josh's hair would likely get him blushing and bring up a bit of awkwardness, so he tried to refrain.

He stopped sipping his chocolate milk and grinned again. "Damn, I really thought I'd slipped away from you this time, what with me circling the park twice, swimming across that river, and riding the trolley all across the city to confuse the trail. You're just too good for me, is all."

OF course, he hadn't done any of that, he'd just been wandering around, window shopping and people watching.

Josh ordered soup and a sprite, and the woman disappeared before he could try to tell her to add a bacon cheeseburger on there. Damn. Josh won this round, but next time he'd stuff him full of delicious grease and bacon. He figured the approach was to order more food than he needed all the time, and wait and see if Josh would show up. Godfrey grinned a little, inwardly stroking his invisible beard in an evil manner.

He spaced off for a moment, but then snapped back into things, grinning widely.

"Oh. Well, I was hoping to meet some strange men, have them buy me lunch, and then kip off into a dark alley with them afterwards. It's how I always spend my weekends."

He dipped his head back down and sipped at his milk again, noting he'd have to get another glass soon, and tried to look casual and not grin. Maybe Josh'd even take him seriously!

"Ooh, well that's perfect then. Now instead of us both having to meet strange men, we have eachother." Grins really michieviously, trying to keep with the joking manner, but sort of inwardly dead serious. "So, did you have a specific alley in mind, or...?"

Is cut off mid-thought, the waitress seeming to appear next to their booth with a small circle tray holding both their meals- Godfrey's burger was monsterously huge, but Josh was pleased to find his soup was in a small white cup.

Setting all the plates and Josh's drink in their rightful places, the waitress disappeared, Josh barely able to utter a "thank you..." before she hurried off. Couldn't complain much- the service was great.

Josh looked down at his steaming hot soup- chicken noodle, with big thick noodles and chunks of chicken. "So uhm... yeah."

He was thankfully saved from having to answer Josh by the arrival of the food, and the blush that threatened to spread across his face was staved off by the appearance of the gigantic burger. Wow. He was stunned, and just sat there and blinked at it for a moment. This place did seem to be known for its burgers though... and coffee.

Godfrey picked up the huge burger in both hands, and opened his mouth as wide as he could, trying to stuff something besides the bun in there. He bit down, the bacon so crispy and delicious it broke off instead of the slice annoyingly being dragged out of the sandwich with that first bite.

It didn't take more than two chews for him to decide this was the best bacon cheeseburger he'd ever eaten, and he rested the burger back down on the plate as he leaned back against his seat and chewed the enormous mouthful. He tried his best to not be gross and chew his food with his mouth as closed as possible, but it was so good he couldn't do anything more than close his eyes and enjoy it.

Once he'd gotten it down to a manageable size, he opened one eye and looked across the table at Josh and his soup.

'Josh had better not even think about eying my burger' Was what he thought. Nope, it was too good and he'd made up his mind not to share. Nevermind the fact that he'd be lucky to eat half of what he'd ordered, with a big side of fries coming with it.

Once he'd swallowed, he came out of his burger-orgy and remembered Josh's joking , but rather suggestive statement. He decided to grab the ketchup bottle that was at the table and pour some onto his fries, and then shoved two large ones into his mouth. It was delicious. Josh wasn't getting any of his fries either, the smarmy b*****d.

Watches Godfrey while not really watching, basically just staring down at his soup with his eyes more focused on the boy across the table. Was this an awkward silence? He really hoped it wasn't, but couldn't help but feel it was, and that it was his fault, and dammit why'd he have to make it awkward. It was his exact opposite intention upon coming into the restaurant.

Finally picking up his spoon, he leaned over his bowl to breath on the soup before taking a bite- delicious as usual. He hadn't even known what the soup of the day was, he just figured it'd be good no matter what. At least the food wasn't disappointing- Godfrey seemed to agree on that. Jeez, that was a big burger.

Eating his soup in the decidedly awkward silence, he couldn't think of a single good thing to say. He would probably just make it worse, so he kept his mouth shut, or rather, kept his mouth occupied on eating and sipping Sprite.

The soup was surprisingly filling, but he wasn't going to stop eating until it was gone- hopefully by then he would have something to say, or even better, that Godfrey would say something. His foot tapped restlessly on the tiled floor.

A few minutes or so passed in silence as they both quieted down and ate, restoring the calm quiet of the diner that they'd interrupted. But Godfrey wasn't good with silence, when it was combined with awkwardness anyways.

He sighed, setting down his burger and wiping his hand off on a napkin. He took a long drink of his chocolate milk, and then set it back down. His cheek came to rest in his hand as he poked at his fries with the other, pulling one without any ketchup out and looking at it.

He debated eating it for about a half a second.

And then he flung it at Josh, where it hit the other boy in the chest and dropped down, either onto his lap or onto the floor.

Godfrey grinned and picked up his burger again and took another big bite, pretending to have not done anything when, really, who else could have done it?

Josh was just about to say something, but fortunately- unfortunately?- thankfully was stopped before he even had a chance to open his mouth, wincing stupidly as the fry hit him. He had watched Godfrey do it, and should have been less surprised, as Godfrey did silly, awkward silence ruining things like this all the time.

Josh did a fake pouty lip, pushing his empty soup cup aside. "You wasted a perfectly delicious fry..." Exaggerates his pout even more for a few seconds before chuckling and finally looking at Godfrey- really looking at him- for the first time.

"Or am I to assume it was someone else..." Grins, swiping a fry covered in ketchup off Godfrey's plate and shoving it in his mouth before Godfrey could protest. "Though I do suppose it's fair. If I found someone was stalking me I'd probably throw a whole buncha s**t at them... only it'd prolly be more painful." Munches the fry, satisfied.

"So umm.. did you have any plans after this? I don't wanna be messin' with your plans or anything like that..."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:02 am

Godfrey bit his lip to keep from grinning as Josh pretended to pout, but couldn't help it.

He blinked a little as Josh focused on him, nibbling on his lip a little. He couldn't help but feel a little fidgety when Josh gave him that look, and bit his tongue a bit to keep a blush from rising.

"Hey!" He said this rather loudly as Josh took one of his fries, and then mock-glared at him. Quick-as-a-snake he snatched up Josh's empty soup cup, and plopped it down on his side of the table, the empty cup making a rather dull and unimpressive noise.

"Hmph." Godfrey stuck his tongue out at Josh, and hugged his fries close to himself. He picked one up and put it in his mouth, chewing.

"No." He said after a moment. "I don't have any sort of plans at all, just sort of going by a whim today."

He picked up another fry and stared down at it as he swished it around in the ketchup. He did this for a few seconds, and then popped the end of it in his mouth, looking back up at Josh. He licked the ketchup off, and then bit off the end of the fry.

"Why?" He popped the rest of the fry in his mouth, and then licked the salt off of his fingers one by one. He'd eaten over half the burger, and about a third of the fries, and what with that glass of chocolate milk, he was rather full.

Josh stared across the table with a rather dumb expression on his face. Either Godfrey was purposely doing things to entice him, or he just happened to be pretty much sexy all the time. Or Josh's hormones were just a bit out of whack at this moment. Either way it didn't dawn on him that he was staring until a few more moments of silence had passed between them.

Josh blinked multiple times in succession. He often dazed out in the middle of someone talking, so he tried to just continue the conversation and not make it any more awkward. Dammit I just want to...

"Oh, well, I didn't have anything to do either. So maybe I could go on a whim with you?" Whim was close to date, right? Yeah, we'll go with that.

The waitress had come by and left a receipt on the table, and Josh scratched at his cheek, always feeling weird when someone else paid for his food.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:41 am

To answer that question, Godfrey was just sexy all the time. But he was also sort of.. .kind of.... maybe putting on some moves. He liked Josh. As a friend. But then sometimes more than that. But they'd snogged like, twice at school. And both times it was awkward afterwards. Did he make it awkward? Did Josh? He wasn't sure. Something about the way Josh stopped and just really looked at him always made his stomach do leaps through hoops. And then other times he just felt like being goofy and silly and friend-like with Josh. The way they goofed around at times, it was really guy-friendish. It was confusing, and he had also a feeling that Josh might like him.

Well, of course he did, because they were friends. And they'd snogged. Godfrey thought about giving in. But if it was really, really awkward afterwards, and they tried to be friends after but it didn't work out, that would suck. It would suck badly. Merlin..... he needed to talk with someone. He'd send him a letter when he got home later, maybe he'd give Godfrey some advice.

Being a teenager was complicated, Godfrey decided.

And he also had a strong feeling he and Josh would end up snogging again before the day was through. Which wasn't really a bad thought.

Godfrey had been in his own head, thinking, for what seemed to him like forever, but had really only been a few seconds.

He shook his head a bit, brushing his hair out of his eyes, and grinned.

"Yeah, sure. I was just going to walk around some more, maybe go find a park nearby and sit down for a bit. I just.... well.. you know as well as I do how crazy studying and stuff can be."

Godfrey stared down at the receipt for about a second, and then snatched it up.

"Haha, I got it. That means I'm paying. I call tip too." He stuck out his tongue again, speaking in a triumphant sort of way, which was all rather ridiculous, but he felt happy about it.

He reached into his coat pocket, since he hadn't taken it off, and pulled out his wallet, dipping his fingers inside to pull out some bills, and then tipped it upside down so a bit of change fell out. Once he'd put it away, he put a ten dollar bill on the table, and put the rest of the money on top of the receipt.

He picked up the receipt and slid out of the booth, going up to the counter. He gave the woman, the same one who had waited on them, the money, and asked for a container for his leftovers. He also made sure to tell the woman how good the food was, and how nice and cozy it was in here, being polite and making small-talk. He then took the paper bag container she gave him and went back to the table, slipping the rest of the burger inside, and then dumping the fries down in it, before rolling the top shut.

He leaned across the table to grab his chocolate milk and drank down what little was left, before setting it back down on the table.

"You ready then?" Godfrey poked Josh in the arm, a wide smile on his face. "I can't stay out too late. I know I've told you how crazy my Dad's been since Roddy was born."

Godfrey rolled his eyes. Harry was annoying. Before he'd been away at practice, and seemed to trust Godfrey and not ask him where he was going all the time and when he'd be back and who he was with. But since Godfrey's little brother had been born, he'd been a real... pain in the a**.

Thankfully Godfrey knew what emotional strings to pull to get Harry to back off. Which might have been a bit mean, but after having so much freedom, he didn't feel it was fair of Harry to be so overbearing now, especially when Godfrey'd never given him any reason to worry he was off... smoking crack or hitting kittens with baseball bats or whatever it was people did. He appreciated the effort, really he did, but he could take care of himself and didn't need Harry treating him like a baby. He didn't know if Adela was as sick of it yet though, if at all. His Dad had been one of the reasons he'd really wanted to get out of the house today, however.

Josh had had his share of confusing relationships. Even though he was only 16, he had been with his share of guys- and a girl. Did they all give him this same fuzzy feeling at one point? He couldn't remember. He reasoned they probably did, if only briefly.

Josh had this sinking feeling that things only got harder from here on out, emotionally speaking...

"I try not to study if I can help it. Sometimes I feel like the more I practice the worse I get, heh." Stretches his arms up in the air, both his shoulders and his back giving a satisfying crack before he lowered his arms again.

"I was gunna let you pay, anyways. You offered, afterall. And besides it'd be nice not to have a completely empty wallet." He tried not to dwell on the thought. His parents weren't exactly well-off. In fact, he was completely sure they weren't even paying for his schooling. Josh worked summers sometimes, random Muggle jobs that weren't too bad- moving people's furniture, stocking shelf at the local grocery store. But when the beginning of school came around he always had to go through a hassle at Gringotts to get his Muggle money changed over. He figured they really didn't like exchanging useless paper for gold coins.

"Yeah, I'm ready. And yeah... but, I mean, parents will be parents." Like Josh knew what they should be like.

Josh scooted out of the booth, snatching his scarf up and loosely wrapping it around his neck. "So where to? Walk in the park, there's one just a few blocks from here..." Or we could just end up in the alley. Sounded good either way.
