Should we really have a pledge of alliegance in American schools? I mean, how shitty is the American government if you have to MAKE the youth pledge themselves to the nation? Plus, don't kids have the RIGHT to choose if and who to pledge themselves to?

I just want "Under God" taken out. I mean, it wasn't in there Originally. In school I would just not say "Under God." Then in 12th grade I didn't say the Pledge at all.

Quote: Any spark of love for country which may be generated in a child or his associates by forcing him to make what is to him an empty gesture and recite words wrung from him contrary to his religious beliefs is overshadowed by the desirability of preserving freedom of conscience to the full. It is in that freedom and the example of persuasion, not in force and compulsion, that the real unity of America lies. source: SCOTUS, West Virginia vs Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) There's also rumors that a Socialist invented the Pledge in the first place. Obviously my stance is no forced recitation.

Roman Italy Should we really have a pledge of alliegance in American schools? I mean, how shitty is the American government if you have to MAKE the youth pledge themselves to the nation? Plus, don't kids have the RIGHT to choose if and who to pledge themselves to? Hey I really dont care at this point. It's all propaganda anyway, but i do think it's nice to say it and show SOME patriotism, and i dont think we're forced at all. We pledge ourselves to the US to be a good citizen. and Under god, just stop the bullshit, If you dont like it dont say it, end of story. OOOOH but what about freedom of religeon? yes it exists, like i said dont like it, dont say it, or change it. How about under Buddah? Under Allah? The great spirit? I dont think it's a big deal and i dont think the kids REALLY care either, It's just the perents that are freaking out when the kids could care less and really dont think they are FORCED to do anything. Again...............Sorry

"separation of church and state"......................I really like this law and whole heartedly agree with it.....but lets face it, In schools(mostly) it's enforced but thats about it. I know you know that the people running for president in this election didn't even glance in that direction. Take Mitt Romney, pretty much vote for me because im morman and have good ideals and if you do god will love you forever. Is that separation of church and state? lol i think not. lol and like i said, we should have a fill in the blank there "...One nation, Under________ Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" Also It's just the parents(mostly) That are complaining. The kids dont give a s**t. The kids have there own voices, if they have a problem with it, let them speak up. This happens time and time again, issue after issue. PARENTS BUTT OUT OF IT!!! IF YOU REALLY LOVE AND RESPECT YOUR KID, LET THEM DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO FIGHT IT OR NOT!!! I see all of the parents saying that "it's FORCED upon the kids to say it. 1. no it's not 2. Aren't YOU "FORCING" them into thinking whatever about ANY issue?...just saying. Im sorry if anyone is offended by ANY of my statements, but im just facing reality here.

Again, my stance is if you don't want to say "under God," then don't say it.
People are too sensitive.

Valerie used a Phoenix Down on The Debate Thread!
Okay, so.
I don't like the fact that we have "under God" in it. It wasn't there originally, and it must feel very awkward for people of other religions to say it. But then, they have the choice not to.
But should someone not show patriotism over a religious problem? That's my issue.
If taking "under God" out makes people more likely to care about the country, then by all means, remove it, please. We need people to love this country. It's important that we do. Not because we're willing to die for it or because we were born here, but just because we need some pride. We haven't had any since just after 9/11. And if it takes a crisis of that magnitude to get us thinking about our country... h'oh boy are we in trouble.
And I must say, while I do respect a person's choice not to speak the Pledge, it really boils my blood when they don't. I've had a family member die in Iraq. (My cousin's husband. They had a daughter.) I know how many lives are being taken away and ruined by this war, and every war in which we've ever been involved. And these people, all of them, fought because they cared enough to die for us. Not for themselves, but for those of us left at home. They wanted us to have and keep our freedom, and wanted to help people in other places experience what we have.
Those people deserve our respect, "under God" or not. And that's why I said the Pledge at school every day, even when I was the only one standing.
