How do we perceive Heaven in both our reality and in the worlds of fantasy? I see it as above the ethereal plane which is above the material plane.
I'd like to ask a few specific questions...
1.) What to you think Heaven's Gate/The Heavenly Doorway is? 2.) Can the Heaven's Gate/Heavenly Doorway and Heaven be glimpsed from Earth? 3.) What do you think of Heaven and what do you think it will be like? 4.) What are your perceptions of Heaven in the worlds of fantasy? 5.) How do you perceive a tranquil afterlife?
We'll discuss these and more. Just bring your thoughts and questions to light.

Ok, my answers: 1.) What to you think Heaven's Gate/The Heavenly Doorway is?* I think it's something to keep out evil souls. You know? As in a way to keep evil souls or those that don't belong out of heaven. 2.) Can the Heaven's Gate/Heavenly Doorway and Heaven be glimpsed from Earth?* No. I'm positive they're on a different plane of existence. 3.) What do you think of Heaven and what do you think it will be like?* I can't really give an answer cuz I'm not sure of what I believe in that sense. If I had to suppose, I think it would be something like a huge city where souls may get returned to earth if they haven't reached true enlightenment. I think that's the purpose of being on earth in the first place, so that your soul can be as best as it can be in order to remain in heaven. 4.) What are your perceptions of Heaven in the worlds of fantasy?* There can be many perceptions depending on the kind of universe you handle. For example, in one of my stories heaven is a place to pass on after lives. To put this simply, it's like I said above, if your soul isn't enlightened and pure, it cannot enter heaven and must return to earth (obviously, your soul will be reincarnated in another body). In another story, heaven is a place for souls right after death. That means that you don't get to reincarnate in that story, while in the previous story, you keep reincarnating until your soul is as good as it can be; there's also the matter that you reincarnate into something according to your karma. For example, if you have bad karma, you shall reincarnate into something awful or, something you hated in your former life. 5.) How do you perceive a tranquil afterlife?* I can't think of one per se. I do think however, that exploring the universe as either a being of pure light or as a soul, might be a very interesting way to handle eternity. Cuz after all, after life means forever, right? And since some say the universe has no limits, well...

This can be a general discussion as well you know. wink
Regarding about what you say about Heaven being on another plane... Yes, true. However, you look at the sky the next time there's a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Much of the time when I see such things, I see a landscape formed in the sky out of the clouds it seems. And, when I look toward the sun, it looks like the light of Heaven filtering out of Heaven's pearly gates.
I believe that could be a glimpse into the realm of Heaven seen from Earth. It's in a different plane, yes, but I see that as a cross over. It's almost as if the souls of the dead can enter Heaven at sunrise or sunset.

Yes, I know. But I figured we could always answer yer questions and then blabber about, he-he. mrgreen
I have to say I don't agree with you on that cuz I rarely see a sunset and I almost never look at the sun. My mom thinks I'm a vampire in that respect, he-he. Still, I sort of get what you mean but I can't agree on it. I think it's nice you see it that way but I sure don't. Maybe it's cuz I have never really look at a sunset or the sun as you have. You know? Maybe if I had a GF I could take the time to do so cuz I don't feel like doing that right now.

I get called a vampire purely because of the following: I go to bed late at night/early hours of the morning (up to around 2am usually if I am playing a game), I can't function well if I get up before 10:30am, when I go outside in the sun I burn within a few minutes unless I have factor 50 sun cream on, I'm very pale naturally (got a bit of a tan when I went to the Caribbean though!), my hands are normally quite cold, and I have a perfect set of teeth which include some very nice apparent shiny canines.
I see more sunsets than sunrises. The reason? I just stated that above. sweatdrop
Why disagree if you haven't seen it anyway? *Shrug.* I think it's a great concept.

First of all, I was born and raised Catholic, so this probably will color how I answer these questions. In the wry sort of Catholic humor that goes along the lines of "If you ******** up, at least there is Purgatory" and the realization of everything that is required to be a saintly person is much less fun than that of being a damned hedonist. That said, I should also say my spiritual and taught religious beliefs don't always add up and agree, so these answer might seem a little contradictory at times, but that would be why.
1.) What to you think Heaven's Gate/The Heavenly Doorway is?
Quite frankly, I never imagined there was one. Maybe some sort of enclosure separating Heaven from all other planes of existence, penetrable by the select few who have the power to depart from Heaven and when souls are let in. Or, for a biological comparison, a cell membrane.
2.) Can the Heaven's Gate/Heavenly Doorway and Heaven be glimpsed from Earth?
Perhaps not glimpsed, but felt. And Mel, I love your point about sunsets/raises. I look to tree, nature and the woods for pretty much the same reason. That is sacred space and can be felt/perceived by anyone open to awe.
3.) What do you think of Heaven and what do you think it will be like?
I don't have an answer, actually. Haven't a bleeding clue.
I joke about it being like George Bernard Shaw's Heaven and Hell from Man and Superman. It makes sense that the Devil would be a romantic. If that is the case, I shall go with being damned. If it is eternal bliss and beautiful, ideal flowers and gardens, full of laughter, stories, and celebrations, then I can go with Heaven. I find it, though, to find it to be hubristic in some ways to think that humans can construct accurately what Heaven is.
4.) What are your perceptions of Heaven in the worlds of fantasy?
Create what you want. It is the realm of fantasy, meant for invention. Often times a notion of what the afterlife is needed for constructing a believable fantasy world.
5.) How do you perceive a tranquil afterlife?
Friends, family, laughter, flowers, trees, ocean, forgiveness. Lots of forgiveness, and no raised voices and anger and violence.

Gee Mel, isn't that something? That's another thing we have in common! Besides from having quite pale skins and our points of view about elves I mean. And yes, why disagree indeed!?
I think Gornwen has a cool point of view about heaven. I would have never thought of a "cell membrane" in a million years! mrgreen

I can see the concept clearly, but I can't see it as a "membrane" per say. I'm thinking more along the lines of "portal".
Anyway, I've heard an analogy that Heaven may be whatever we want it to be - that we may have choices to go to places that we'd otherwise not be able to. For example, from God's Heaven the world I created may be accessible to me. It's quite a bizarre idea, but if you think about it, wouldn't that just be sweet?
If those things aren't possible, then the likelihood of us caring are quite small as we'd be in the best place we could possibly be anyway.

Yeah, I can't see it as a cell membrane either but, I think it's cool to see other points of view instead of the same old same. You know?
I like yer idea of "Heaven" being what we make of it. Who knows, maybe it's actually that way after we die. I say I'd like it cuz, if my heaven turns out to be exploring the universe, then it's gonna be very interesting indeed. 3nodding

1.) What to you think Heaven's Gate/The Heavenly Doorway is? When you die, a light engulfs the area around you, leading you up on a cloud-like walkway that goes straight to an open "doorway" type thing that ultimately leads you to the "other side".
2.) Can the Heaven's Gate/Heavenly Doorway and Heaven be glimpsed from Earth? Many people have claimed to have left their bodies while in deep meditation (not including the alive-dead-alive scenario) and flown up to see the many level planes of Heaven itself. Perhaps without meditation we may see it, for the sky above is a small taste of what lies beyond the physical world.
3.) What do you think of Heaven and what do you think it will be like? Heaven is a place where all good souls are created and eventually go for a while after living a life before being reborn (unless you are an Angel that has decided to walk about Human beings for one time or another). The ones with tainted hearts, depending on the level of evilness that exists, are able to redeem themselves in a level lower than the ones of Heaven's main planes before heading to where happiness abounds. It is a place without any negativity, where all beings are the same age, height, gender, etc, but seem to hold onto their personalities, and perhaps a bit of their human sexuality (because a place where everyone is completely the same would just be boring no matter how happy it is: diversity is part of happiness). Everyone is equal and not one person is better than the other. Basically, you have a sky and grassy plains with pure bodies of water and lovely plants that bear fruit every second. In a way, it resembles some aspects of Earth, or rather, Earth resembles Heaven. On higher levels, Angels and other high Heavenly beings live, sometimes coming down to where most souls are kept to interact with one another. On the highest plane where God lives, beings that are too bright for even an Angel's gaze praise his name. There is no darkness, no shadows, only light.
4.) What are your perceptions of Heaven in the worlds of fantasy? Usually fantasy ideas of Heaven do not differ from the real concept of it. Yes, some might be more obscure, but the roots come from the "source", so there is some truth behind them.
5.) How do you perceive a tranquil afterlife? Happiness, equality with some diversity, pure, clean atmospheres, being able to connect with loved ones and other whom you never had met on Earth. Knowledge is infinite, and lots of light.

Nice post E-Dragon! I wonder what someone who, in life didn't care much for bright places, would do if entered heaven. You know? Would that person be like: "Agh, too much light! Get it away from me!" You know? mrgreen I think I'm like that in places that are way too bright, he-he.

I was confirmed into my church recently, it was hard, and I still have doubts. how can someone who made the beautiful, intricate white orchids, be the reason of one people's suffering?
1.) Where do you think Heaven's Gate/The Heavenly Doorway is? The sky when the stars shine so brightly at night when there are no clouds and you're in the country.
2.) Can the Heaven's Gate/Heavenly Doorway and Heaven be glimpsed from Earth? I don't think so. If mankind has searched for so long without finding it, chances are, I don't think we are meant to find it.
3.) What do you think of Heaven and what do you think it will be like? God only knows... (that's a joke, come on, laugh with me rofl hah. ha.) 4.) What are your perceptions of Heaven in the worlds of fantasy? Blinding white light, big voice, the typical stereotypical vision of God's wonderful world. 5.) How do you perceive a tranquil afterlife? I picture the bad people good, the sorrowful people joyful once again. The funny thing is, I don't picture myself in the happyness.

What I mean by "glimpsed from earth" is what I said about the sky at sunrise or sunset. I can see landscapes up there, and despite the fact that the clouds are ever changing, I somehow see Heaven as a place that doesn't always remain the same. When I see these landscapes in the sky, they LOOK like paradise to me, and I believe I am seeing a glimpse of Heaven, but because it's not in this realm, there's no way for us to get there until we die.
