That stallion was EXASPERATING.

She'd chased him from out of the forest where Bonehead and that little purple flutter had been, and that dratted Paul Revere had evaded her for what seemed like days before she'd finally caught up to him. After a few guilt trips aimed in his direction, the bright orange stallion had stayed behind and done s he'd been told... mainly to care for the basket that was nearly three times her own size! After all, he'd have to be dumb to expect her to take care of a foal bigger than herself!

Laying atop of the colorful basket, Zahara hummed to herself. The air had grown warmer, and it was evident that Spring had arrived in the land of the Soquili. Flowers blossoming everywhere, grass once again green... yes, it was the good life, yes indeed.

All of a sudden, the wicker ground beneath her began to shake. Leaping up, she found herself stumbling around, caught off balance, as the lid of the basket began to rumble and force itself off!

Stuffy stuffy stuffy! It was so stuffy in there!

The little filly squirmed and wiggled, frustrated that she'd grown so much larger than the little basket that had held her from only moments after her birth. Many things had happened on the outside world (which made her content enough to remain in her basket hideaway), but now that it was so much smaller and she so much larger, it was time to get OUT!

Paul Revere was ignoring Zahara. She'd guilt-tripped him into staying around, but damn if he was going to pretend he liked it! That crazy flutter...what was he to her anyway, a convenient way of getting things done? He'd learned things, in the time since they'd first met, things like flutters having the ability to change their size. The Soquili snorted. He doubted she'd changed her size since she was born - she had far too much fun tormenting other Soquili and getting them to do things for her.

All in all, he wasn't too pleased with being the only one around here who did any WORK.

So here he was, relaxing on the soft, spring grass, backside firmly towards Zahara and the basket. He was so intent on ignoring Zahara, he ignored the odd sounds coming from that direction as well, attributing them to the flutter.

"PAAAAAUL!" Zahara shrieked out as she tumbled off of the moving basket lid, barely catching herself in time with her wings before nearly crashing onto the ground. Little red and yellow wings zipped her upwards, now hovering over the moving wicker. "PAUL PAUL PAUL PAAAUL!" the tiny fluttered continued wailing, unsure of what was going on, "THE BASKET!!!"

The filly's ears flattened as the tiny high pitched shrieking continued. She knew she should have been used to it by now, since she heard it so often as it was, but she found herself never being prepared for it when it actually came.

In response, she attempted to shriek back at the tiny voice, but all that came out was a high pitched whine from her unused vocal chords. That should be enough to shut it up, though, right?

Using her yellow tipped nose, she nudged the basket top further off, allowing her eyes to adjust to the growing brightness of the outside sunlight.

Paul Revere continued ignoring Zahara's high-pitched shrieking. Whatever it was, it couldn't possibly be that important. He flicked his ears back once, then flicked them back insolently.

Then he heard the second shriek. The one that bore no resemblance to Zahara's voice. Startled, the orange stallion rolled over, ignoring the grass staining his hide to see a delicately colored foal poking her head out of the basket.

He got to his feet and came over to the two, settling himself down again, so as to not scare the poor baby. For the moment, he kept quiet, marvelling at the foal's beauty.

It was obvious that the stallion was going deaf, since he wasn't rushing to her aid and helping her out in her moment of distress and despair, but at last, the bright orange lanky beast rose from his position on the ground and began approaching her direction.

When she heard the shrill noise respond back to her, she immediately ceased shrieking, confused and flustered at the voice coming out of the basket. Whatever it was, it was definitely yellow, and it was definitely noisy!

Green eyes glanced back towards Paul... who was promptly laying down again?!

"Paul what are you doing?!!?" she called out, divebombing into his direction, landing on the top of his head with her red hooves. "Paaaul, what do we do!?"

Her nose scrunched, and with one more push, the lid came toppling off the basket and onto the grass, leaving her now exposed for all the world to see. Her red mane was the first to appear, followed by her yellow streaked head and white dotted pink cheeks. Green eyes stared at her surroundings, until they fell across the bright orange stallion with the little red creature that stood atop his head. Was that big orange creature the thing that was so noisy?

"Hush, Zahara," he told the flutter, eyes never leaving the foal. "The baby doesn't need you scaring her with that ridiculous noise you're making."

He watched the foal, smiling, as she looked right at him. "Good mornin', li'l one," he told her. "You sure are a lovely one."

She had half a mind to stomp down on that rude head of his for that nasty comment he shot her way, but she was far too intrigued with the large sized creature appearing from within the basket the duo had cared for for so many weeks. Paul had always been the one to open the basket and drop food down into it for the baby (for Zahara couldn't lift the basket with her small stature) so she'd never actually gotten a glimpse of the creature up until this point. And how dreadfully odd she looked! A pink filly... as if an orange stallion wasn't bad enough, now they had a pink filly to add to the group! Without wings or horns, she looked as plain as a regular horse, save for her crazy coloring. What in the world were they going to do now with it?

Her eyes left the strange red creature atop of the orange beast's head, and she smiled at the larger being. His words were kind, and far from shrill and obnoxious, which told the small foal that it had been that tiny red creature with wings that had caused all the ruckus to begin with. No, she recognized that voice. That was the voice of the kind orange snout that had always dropped fruit and other scrumptious foods into her dark little home for her to munch on. She liked him. But then again, he and that little red thing always made her laugh with their carrying on and fussing towards one another. Perhaps this world wasn't as intimidating as she'd thought of it before.

Paul Revere continued to ignore Zahara, which was made easier by her (probably indignant) silence. If only he could somehow contrive to insult her into speechlessness on a more regular basis...bah, here he was woolgathering when there was something worthy of attention before him.

He smiled again at the foal and then leaned forward to gently nuzzle her. She was soft as only a baby could be. And in her eyes he could see that she was going to be a smart one, probably more than a match for either him or Zahara.

The stallion briefly entertained a fantasy where this foal could one day help him figure out just who was to blame for finding the basket. And then wondered if, by then, he'd think it was blame.

Zahara nearly toppled over as Paul leaned down to shower the little babe with paternal affection. Namely, she nearly fell over due to being off balance, but it didn't help that it took her by surprise how gentle and... caring he was for this foal! Was this the same stallion who'd been running off for so long, to get away from his responsibilities to the basket they'd both found together?

Perhaps he's lost his mind... she thought to herself, regaining her footing and perching herself next to one of his large orange ears. That could certainly explain the change in temperament for sure...

The little filly grinned as the large orange muzzle came towards her, and she eagerly poked her own snout forward to meet it. What a strange pair those two were, but at the same time, very comforting to be in the presence of. These must be the Zahara and Paul creatures she'd heard while she was still within her basket. Both of them liked to yell out the other's name, and she'd learned them very quickly in her boring little time hidden away from the world.

The stallion nuzzled the foal a bit more, then withdrew to study her, chuckling. "You certainly aren't afraid of this new world, are you, li'l un?" he commented. "I can approve of that!" And if she continued to be so open to new experiences, perhaps this whole "parenting" thing would be a whole lot more enjoyable than he'd expected!

Paul Revere leaned back a little and rolled his eyes up towards Zahara. "Now, I'm under the impression here that this li'l lady needs a name. What'cha think?" he asked the flutter still perched on his head. "Any particular ideas?"
