Go for it!

What did you all reckon? No Atmos devices here...

Did anyone notice that one of the soldiers described UNIT as the "Unified Intelligence Taskforce". Goodbye UN status, as wikipedia tells us "Following the broadcast of the 2005 series, executive producer Russell T. Davies explained that the real life United Nations were no longer happy to be associated with the fictional organisation, and the UN's full name could not now be used."
But why did the UN want to disassociate themselves from something as cool as UNIT? Fools!

...Unless there's a REAL United Nations Intelligence Taskforce out there.

It's still 'United Nations Intelligence Taskforce', whatever they call it.

That was rather better than the last few. I loved the half-grown human - creepy, and did you see Doctor Who Confidential afterwards? *shudder*

And the Sontarans are so made of win... were they that good in the old series? I haven't seen any of their episodes.

Wiki says it isn't, neither did that episode.

And I've only seen one episode with the Sontarons during the Tom Baker period, but there was only one Sontaron. Earth was pretty break with not too many humans on it, they were starting to colonise different planets and moons, but the Sontaron (I think he was called Strar) found a few and started doing experiments on them to see what there weaknesses were. Such as putting lots of pressure on them to see how long it would take them to be squashed. 78D

'United Nations Intelligence Taskforce' would be UNIT. 'Unified Intelligence Taskforce' would be UIT. What I meant is that I prefer the first one and think it makes a lot more sense, so I'll continue to use it.

Oh I agree, it does sound better. I was just pointing out how strange it was that the UN didn't want to be associated with a fictional alien-catching organisation.

Well, bearing in mind that the first Sontaran story (The Time Warrior, 1973) was also the one that introduced Sarah Jane as the Third Doctor's companion, I'd say it's worth checking out.

That's the only other one I've seen, although the Time Team article in this month's DWM is about The Two Doctors, which is the last appearance of the Sontarans before this.

As of now, My dream Welsh Series TARDIS crew would be Ten, Wilf and Mr Copper.

Imagine the Doctor bounding across alien landscapes followed by two enthusiastic, bewildered and out-of-breath old gents!

But then, I suppose the Doctor can't be expected to do all the Looking Hot by himself. So Private Ross can come too.

I wasn't expecting to like the Sontarans, but they turned out to be pretty cool. Love their one weakness. Adds a lot of depth to their culture.

that was interesting seeing the sontaron cloning technology, how the feeder tube is where where the umbilical cord used to be.

Not a bad episode, but a bit too much Donna drama for my taste. Guess it's something I just have to accept with any story set on contemporary Earth. Good to see Gramps again, though.

As for the baddies... I'm not too keen on the new Sontarans. It's not just that they're so short they're laughable (at least the two UNIT guys thought so before getting kneecapped with a magic wand), but those new blue suits don't look very cool. Wish they'd gone with a more menacing color scheme. Also, that stupid 'Sontar-AH, Sontar-AH!' chant... rolleyes

At least the heads aren't as bad as I'd feared. And their space ships and stuff seem decent enough so far.

That boy genius punk is rather obnoxious. I hope he dies.

UNIT was pretty good. They didn't come off as particularly buffoonish, thankfully. Of course we're probably gonna see a bunch of 'em getting massacred by the Sontarans in part two. I don't know why they even bother carrying guns when nothing they encounter ever actually gets hurt by regular bullets (which they can't even fire in this story anyway). Also, nice to see Martha again. I wonder if evil clone Martha also has the probic vent weakness of the Sontarans.

I liked how they tied in the current effort to reduce car emissions with a nefarious plot to take over the world.

As much as I hate the overuse of the sonic screwdriver, enough with everything being deadbolt sealed already!

The non-explosion of the UNIT jeep was rather amusing. I like how we're getting a lot of gags this season that play off of overused TV and movie cliches. But... why doesn't anyone ever try to break the glass windows of the car? I know if my car fell into the river and the doors and windows wouldn't open, that would be the next thing I'd try to escape. Or is that a little too obvious?

Another gag I liked was when the Doctor thought Donna was going home for good, and he goes on this big long speech about everywhere he wanted to take her... And then realizes that she's just going home for a visit. XD

But yeah, with the car windows... At the very least for Gramps! I can maybe see how the car going into the river might be a problem, at least once it was IN the river, since the water pressure would have complicated things, but... SAVE GRAMPS!!! gonk

if they kill bernard cribbins there will be hell to pay.
and a lot of really annoying depressing emotional Donna.
so we'de really better hope he doesn't die.
There seems to be a serious lack of SMASH CAR WITH BRICK in this episode. I mean, I know when you're inside it's pretty hard to find a brick, but when you're on the outside banging on the window, you could be doing something much more practical.

I think maybe the gas is so the Sontarons can breathe so they will have on weaknesses, because in the next episode preview the Doctor said something along the lines of "the gas is also for something else other from killing everyone >:U"

I suspect that the next episode will start with the Doctor running off to find a brick or something, breaking the window, and getting that guy out.
Cause the cliffhangers are often resolved very easily, aren't they?
