No, he would have lost even earlier had he done that. With L's earliest suspicion of Light being Kira, if he had killed all the other members of the task force, the fact that Light would have been the only member still alive would have stuck out like a sore thumb and would have immediately been convicted of being Kira. Not to mention the fact he refused to murder people who had committed no harm (except L, of course).

Taking control of the task force was the only possible solution for him. Because he was in charge, he could easily lead them on a wild goose chase without anyone suspecting him (until Near came into the picture).

And the whole plot of the show wasn't to show some nut going on a killing rampage, but to completely prove the fact that if you play god you're going to lose eventually.

I still think he would get cought. Other police members would immedietlly notice. They see that Light is the only one still alive out of the task force that was working sepertlly from the real Japan police.
Therefore suspecion would rise. They would watch Light's every move just as L did. Sence Light would have no previouse knowladge of the police finding out about this, he wouldn't suspect them to come get him, to get rid of the Death Note.
Would he do the same thing he did in captivity?
Maybe. I doubt it would work, or he would never get the Death Note back again because L isn't there to track them down. (Everyone else is to stupid to do this.)

It is an interesting thought though. Sence L isn't there it would be hard to actully PROVE that Light is the Kira. (They would have to know how he kills his victims before they can put him to the death penilty)


Here's a thinker. If he DID get cought, he gets the death penelty right?
The sigigami would kill off Light first before his exicution by a heart attack.... So if that did happen.... Would they think theres another Kira?
