Jadeira leaned against the window, her breath frosting the glass as she watched the horrors playing out before her. The Mob was chanting now, and waving all manner of weaponry above their heads. Her guards were doing their best to keep their queen safe, but she had ordered them not to kill any of her subjects. Jadeira had ruled Esperanza for almost forty years now. Forty years of doing everything in her power to keep her people safe from all the evils that had threatened them. But the citizens of Esperanza saw not their once beloved warrior queen leaning out of the palace window, but a demon that must be disposed of.
The queen was not surprised to hear Maragh’s whining voice rise above the chanting of the crowd. The traveling priest had started all this nonsense just over a year ago. Her last mistake as ruler had been to allow that beast of a man into her kingdom. His King hated any kind of magic and promised wealth beyond her subjects’ wildest dreams if they would dispose of the demon witch that ruled them. A resounding crack echoed through the night, Jadeira sighed, that would be the front gate. It was only a matter of time now. The chanting rose in pitch, the crowd began to funnel through the gate into the castle. There was no way brute force could have taken the gate, only powerful magic could have shattered it like that. Maragh must possess the power he denounced so fervently. How had she missed it?
They were outside her door now, she could hear Maragh’s reedy voice whining for her to open the door and accept her fate. She squeezed her eyes shut, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She could feel him fighting her spell, and she felt her strength fade away... The door swung open.
There was a roar of triumph from the crowd that milled outside as they burst into the room, Maragh, the priest, at their fore. He was robed in white, with a silver circlet resting atop his matted grey hair. He stepped carefully across the room, all the while staring deep into the emerald eyes of his enemy. He drew his blade slowly, deliberately, as he smiled at the fallen queen. She clenched her fists and raised her chin proudly to him, but he could see that she had been crying. He wrapped his hand in her hair and pulled her head back, baring her throat to his blade. She struggled against his grip, her nails bit into the flesh of his arm.
“Let all know the fate of those who oppose the Kasidian Empire,” Maragh hissed into her ear as his blade tore open her throat, and spilled her life’s blood across the front of his robe. Jadeira’s beloved subjects cheered as Maragh triumphantly held up the decapitated head of the demon queen.

Arvanna sprinted through an underground tunnel, clutching a folder of documents that would be better off Somewhere Else.

Sy, can you contact ANY of the Wyvern Guard? I thought we were being shadowed. she desperately thought.

No. I can't find him. At all. That or he's too busy to worry about us.

What would he be worried about!? she demanded of the Wyvern.

Didn't you hear!? They executed the Queen!

Oh. OH. That's not good.

You think? They haven't seen me yet, too high up. Got your high altitude gear on?

N-no... I only got my civies and curiass on.

What about the cloak?

Uhm. I don't have that either... She stopped and slid around a corner, into a mob of eleven traitors. They saw her armor, and her interesting features.

"...She's with that b***h... and she's one of them!" The leader of the pack shouted to his comrades. He held aloft his torch.

Sy... I'm in trouble!

They charged her haphazardly, and she dropped the documents to draw her bastardsword and charged silently, her initial thrust spitting the lead man and driving him into another. She wrenched her sword out of him to catch another man in the kidney. He gasped in pain and collapsed.

In return, one of the traitors bit into her arm with his longsword. She hissed in pain and drew back for another thrust, parrying a counter attack and driving her steel blade into another man. He gurgled as he started to drown in his own blood. That cost her a deep stab in her thigh. She cried out in pain before turning out of the cut and pulling a Blade Reversal, the thrust biting deep into the man's abdomen. She spun and wrenched it out of him, disembowling the man and parrying another attack. The seven more men pressed in, even though it cost them four of their number.

She danced back out of the reach of the enemy and panted.

"Cmon... You can do better then that!" she said with a wicked grin. They charged in a wordless shout and she counter charged. Her blade took the life of another man, neatly beheading him. As she prepared for another attack, one of them didn't bother with his weapon and send a right hook into her face, sending her reeling and on the floor.

Arvanna! Get up!

Sytalos blasted into her mind.
She moaned and went to get up but a sudden weight squashed her against the floor.

"This demon is a pretty one... I say we have some fun with her. Then give her over to Maragh as a present." She heard through underwater.

Sy... Get out of here... tell... the...General... she sent to Sytalos, cruel laughter playing in her ears.

* * *

A Wyvern Knight circled down and landed in front of similarly mounted knights. The newcomer dipped his head and thumped his heart area with his hand.

"Captain. The Infiltrators have penetrated the castle, and have executed the Esperazan Queen."

The armored soldier nodded and grinned. "Excellent. Send word to the invasion fleets. We must begin the Occupation at once." The Captain said to his aide de camps.

"Yes my lord." They said in unison and took off.

* * *

Sytalos flew as fast as he could, straight for The Nest, screaming to any Wyverns that could be near by, desperately blocking out the sights, smells, feel, sounds, and the pain coming from Arvanna.

He neared a presence and immediately recognized it. It was one of the Guard.

Quiet Down, you fool!

Yes! Someone! Listen! The Queen has been executed, my rider is... Nevermind about her.

What!? Are you serious!? Where is she?

I. Told. You. Nevermind about her. Sytalos replied, along with sending along a small snippet of what was being force fed into his mind.

Those scum. I will cleanse their bloodlines from this earth. Come to me, Wyvern. It is time we roused from our slumber.

* * *

Lord General Auren Shiro stood up, listening to the Guard's report. Nodding he said to himself, "Tis time to cast the dice to fate again. Good work, my son. This is what we have been preparing for. Tell me. Who else knows of the events?"

"Father, the Wyvern Sytalos, and I. No one else within the Nest."

"And of any other agencies?"

"No, Father. I was unable to discern that. I have failed you in that regard." The soldier bowed his head in shame.

"No, my child. You did not fail me. You were right in getting here as soon as possible." The former human and now... Something paced. Two Wyvern Guards, not in body armor, but the black and blue livery of Shiro's Wyverns entered with two crates. One contained both of Auren's swords, the other contained his armor. They silently assisted him in putting it on.

"Kirvaras, Nasali, leave me, and spread word that the Guard is being rousted for war. Vess, reveal yourself to the Nest. Rouse all able bodied Wyverns. It is time, to reveal ourselves."

* * *

The Kasidian Wyvern Knight pulled his spear from the Domachi Dragon's head he had ever seen. He shook his head at the size of the beast, while the fourteen other Wyverns circled and landed nearby.

"Biggest Dragon I've ever seen. Looks like it was northbound... And judging by his original course, he came from the Esperanzan Castle, Flightleader." The rider called to his commanding officer.

"Tis very good that you ambushed it... But can you know if word was sent? These savages do have magic you know."

The knight shook his head. "No sir." The Commander shrugged and yawned. "Congradulations, Private. You killed your first dragon from here. From what I've heard, plenty more where this thing came from."

Mitsuko watched as the once great Queen Jadeira struggled against Maragh's grip right in front of the two, though unseen. Her arms were crossed calmly, one leg over the other as she sat in the air, moving ever so slightly. "Let all know the fate of those who oppose the Kasidian Empire," As Maragh tore open Jadeira's throat, Mitsuko's head slowly tilted to one side. "Such a shame. I liked her..." She straightened up, now standing on the ground, and collected the queen's soul, then lowered her head in respect and eyes closed. Then, she looked at everyone cheering around her and shook her head. There was nothing she had to say about them, those who had turned against their great queen just because she was a demon. This act was shameful to her, but at the same time she almost applauded the Kasidian Empire for being able to cause such an incident. She disappeared from the scene, still hearing the cheers from everyone.

Toleranth paced back and forth, the orders already sent, the border was being fortifed as he thought, and two squadron dispatched to see Yumiru home. Naturally she was becoming quite a good negoiator so Tolly had let her go to negoitate a deal on crops this year in northern Esperanza. At the moment he cared lest for the corn he would need, but more for his daughter's life. If things were truly as bad as reported then, it wouldn't be long before they would come knocking on his door.

Yumiru's horse thundered through the underbrush, about 40 seconds later a group of 10 thundred by hot on her trail, they were exchanging crossbow fire, and so far neither side was being very accurate given the terrain and the fast pace of their horses. Yumiru reached down for another bolt, and found out much to her displeasure that her borrowed weapon was now out of ammunition. She turned and gave it a good heave and it still missed her intended target.

"Hyiru isn't going to let me forget this ever if i make it out alive." Yumiru looked back to see they wee gaining ground on her, and she took the spare length of her regins and began to whip the horse faster. She looked back just as two girls swung down out of the tree to land right in her lap. Daisy took two handfuls of mane and tugged to the right and the horse began to turn sharply to the right. Iris kept Yumiru's hands busy and all the while trying to explain they were not going to hurt her. Yumiru straigtened up with a scream, she reached behind her and felt the arrow sticking out of her back.

The two girls pulled the horse to a stop, and the others pulled to a stop. "You gave us quite a run Yumiru Bebus, but like all your filthy race you will die." "The same filthy race that helped you through two wars with Loas, hid your familes to prevent them from being slaughtered, and this is the thanks we get." "Times change, and you're not part of it this time, goodbye Yumiru." The men lifted their crossbows aiming carefully at Yumiru, and the road caved inward underneath, and the cries of the horses and the cries of the men died out as the giant doors swung back up closed. A young man stood up dropping the rope, and walked over to where Yumiru stood transfixed at what just happened.

Hamlin ruffled Daisy's hair; "Good work Daisy, you too Iris, and yumiru Bebus i wish to introduce myself." Yumiru looked at the young man standing up with a pained face. Hamlin went on; "My name is Master Hamlin, and these are my two girls Iris n Daisy." Yumiru grunted acknowledgment, and fell right on her face. Iris looked up at hamlin; "I think you should have let us heal her injury first before introductions.

(a few hours later)

A messenger swept into the throne room and Tolly stopped talking with two of his squadron commanders. "My lord the two squadrons have located and brought Yumiru and her guests here. Shall I show them in?" Tolly looked at the two squadron commanders and they ducked their heads and exited through another entrance pulling the doors closed.

Yumiru walked in and behind her was Hamlin, Iris on his left and Daisy to his right, and Toleranth smiled immediately seeing Hamlin. "Somehow, i had a notion it was you, but I thought i ended your debt to me a long time ago?" Hamlin shook his head; "From that debt many great things have come to pass, and so I did this out of respect. Besides i owed Vermillion before I owed you, and i would hope he would take this as payment of that debt."

Yumiru looked at her father; "We can't let them get away with what they did to Jadeira, someone must send them a message clear as the blue sky our position on their actions." Tolly mused moving to hug his daughter; "Already been done, I just sent two squadrons to drop our message right through the roof of the throne room in Esperanza." "What was the message father?" Tolly let go and back up a few paces; "The three who were trying to start the same sort of dissident revolution here with my people." "A house warming gift for the new ruler of Esperanza, you are most kind Lord Toleranth." Tolly glanced at Hamlin hearing his comment. "No, it will give the people the reason they need to come up here and fight me, and I want them to. I want them to see as much bloodshed as possible in hopes it knocks some sense into them.

(I think you may find Iris to be a touch more hostile when it comes to matters involving Hamlin and his safety and perhaps she might be a bit more clung to him than usual. So tread lightly because you know her well enough to know she acts on impulse.)

Iris leaned herself against Hamlin, something bugging her that she didn't bother to voice in such company as her eyes trailed away from Yumiru to Hamlin and then finally to Tolly. She shifted her wait to cause as little burden to Hamlin as possible, but drew the line quite clear that she wanted no one near him, but left the reason entirely unclear. Her eyes never faltered from Toleranth as she began speaking, "If you don't mind my saying, Lord Toleranth, from what I know of your wife she wouldn't like it very much if you were the cause of bloodshed, nor would it please her to hear that you were helping it along." Iris didn't flinch or move, just remained in a somewhat leaning position against Hamlin.

Daisy seemed to stay just slightly behind Hamlin, more fidgety than her sister and much more nervous especially as Iris spoke so clearly out of turn. It was a habit of Iris' that not even Daisy fully understood. She would talk out and stand so very close to Hamlin, but why couldn't she see this was not her place to talk. Toleranth was a lord after all, and who was she; a servant to Hamlin, to say anything against a lord. But Iris didn't care. "Sister you shouldn't speak....don't you remember what happened last time? Sister...you're not going to earn any points with anyone, not even him by acting like such a tough girl." Daisy had her suspicions about why Iris always acted so oddly when it came to Hamlin, but like Iris it was just something she left entirely out of conversation.

Iris shot her a glare and turned her attention back to Toleranth. "Do you really think it wise to cause more bloodshed than what's already occurred? Surely being a lord would lead you to be more cautious in your actions than that." Iris shifted her weight once more, but still ensured that she did not become a burden to Hamlin. "Well?"

"Sister!"

But Iris ignored Daisy's warnings as usual

The Column of Kasidian Infantry was immense. Stretching for a mile, they approached the fortified town in Teir. It buttoned up as it saw the rolling column.

The Infantry Captain sighed. Why couldn't they accept the rule and assistance of the Midnight Throne? He hated this. Surely the could see the wisdom of joining with the Empire?

He sighed and gave the orders for the Infantry column to prepare for war. He sent a diplomat forward. The man galloped off with a horse, along with two escorts.

The officer took out a telescope and unfolded it to watch the proceedings. The diplomats were discussing something with the town, and then the gates opened for the diplomats to go through.

"Well, what do you know, they have sense for once!" he said to an aide de camp. Both soldiers shared a chuckle as he orderede them back into the column.

The Wyvern Squadron hid in their cover. So far, their interception of the dragons from that accursed city was going very well. The Philospher with them checked the spells concealing them and grunted.

"Hopefully, we can push them back into that city to be dealt with later."

Toleranth looked at Iris; "I don't like bloodshed either, but one cannot ingore it when it is called for. I will bear the responsiblity for the lives that are taken in bloth sides of every battle between my squadrons and soliders. You can no doubt read my heart and see the names of those already fallen under my rule, i know their names, and we respect their familes. Although that pales to the number etched in your heart, so do not lecture me on bloodshed Iris, for every kind master you have recieved, there has been 2 or even 3 callus ones, and the lives you have taken under them have no gone away as you do not enjoy death."

Hamlin spoke rather calmly; "To take even a small portion of Esperanza and hold it would take allot more then what you have currently within a days march of the border. It would strictly be Dragon against man, and that would only solidfy their hatred in your kind, feed his fire and it will burn for centuries to come long after he has passed on."

Yumiru spoke up; "Master Hamlin is right dad, it would be the wrong move, as much as I would love vengence for Jadeira, the best course of action would be to seek the support of the surrounding kingdoms. The combined politcal strength would cause this radical leader to rethink his strategies."

Hamlin took the moment while Yumiru was speaking to pull Iris back to the door. "Listen Iris, Toleranth is not exactly the most patient type, I can only hope it was out of respect for our actions in saving his daughters life that he hasn't bitten your head off. You have your reasons for doing what you did, but in the house of another man you keep those reasons to yourself understand. I am not about to be executed because you shoot your mouth off to the wrong person, and Lord Toleranth is not the right person to go shooting your mouth off to." Hamlin took a moment to take a deep breath to calm his anger, he wished not to come down so hard on Iris, but he dared not let her get away with it for any length of time. "Toleranth wouldn't have done anything until he saw Yumiru with his own eyes, so those dragons haven't even left yet, the orders not sent to start advancing, and had they been given we would have been watching flights coming out of the city as we approached it earlier. Tempers are high right now, and once things calm a bit he will see the reason you, I, and Yumiru are trying to dig in his head. Not to mention he has to sleep with his wife tonight so he won't do anything to make her too upset. Now lets get back up there, and when there is a free moment you will ask to be heard and apologize to him for your earlier outburst. Then later you will apologize to your sister for the look you gave her."

Hamlin said nothing else and took Iris's hand and pulled her back up to where they were standing. He gave one last look at Iris with a expecting look before looking back to catch in on the conversations end.

Toleranth shook his head; "Yumiru, i've dispatched messengers to the other kingdoms, i've yet to hear back from them concerning such things, and if your about to suggest going out on your own to speak with them forget it. I will not allow you to fall prey to their assassins again." 'Fine, but if you want peace in your house tonight then I suggest you save the blood and guts for another day, and just sleep on what to do. However, if you want to do something, take those three you got and kick them out the gates and let them walk back to their master rather then send them hurling through a roof. I'll be up early and catch you with the advisors in the morning, maybe we can come up with a better plan concerning this matter."

Yumiru turned and since Daisy was the closet she picked her up and gave her a soft squeeze. "Thanks a bunch for saving my tail out there, i hope someday i can return the favor to you both and Master Hamlin." Yumiru set Daisy down and nodded respectfully to both Hamlin and Iris. Hamlin nodded back turning his attention back to Toleranth, and waited for Iris to ask.

Daisy let out something that sounded like a sigh sensing a sudden rage in her sister that she managed to conceal well enough. Daisy's gentle eyes watched Yumiru and she smiled "There's no need to thank me, or us for that matter. We enjoy doing this sort of thing, even if Master Hamlin and Iris don't admit to it." Daisy's attention wasn't at all on Yumiru though, but on Iris learning of the conversation Hamlin had with her. If only he knew... she thought knowing her sister felt betrayed and bitter about something. Iris had already concealed it before her sister could find out what it was sir.

And that's when Iris did something shocking. She put on an extremely humble look and even to the strongest of empath she felt humble as well. "Lord Toleranth..." she started sounding more respectful than before, leaning not at all on Hamlin, but instead let her head hang with respectfulness and some level of "...if you would allow me to speak I do have something I wish to ask of you."

Daisy felt her eyes widen and she simply hoped her mouth hadn't dropped so respectfully so of her own sister in front of such a powerful man. She always knew Hamlin had tamed her wile nature, with any other master or mistress she would have never would been like this. She would have kept talking till the lord killed her. Why on earth would she behave like this? Daisy just could not figured it out.

Toleranth turned his eyes and not his head to look at Iris. "Speak your mind Iris, and get it out before it eats you up."

Hamlin kept quiet, but had an eye on Daisy which was a good source to figure out what Iris was about to doand Hamlin developed an uneasy feeling, but kept is face and body looking calm and relaxed.

"Lord Toleranth I wish to ask your forgiveness. Not for my words though, I spoke my mind out of concern. However...I do understand that it was wrong of me to speak so out of turn and to insult you in your own home. I hope you can forgive me, but I understand if you cannot. But if you cannot...please do not hold Master Hamlin responsible for my actions. He has taught me better than that." she spoke with complete sincerity.

Daisy felt her sister's emotions unable to believe what she was hearing and feeling from Iris. Her Iris would never be this humbled. Daisy just shook her head gently and decided to pass it off as being for the best.

Auren Shiro

PostPosted: Mon May 12, 2008 2:33 am

Lord General Auren Shiro surveyed the quiet Wyverns. Only now, what had been going on in the tower had been revealed. Each volunteer, the best and the brightest' of the Nest could be seen in their new fate.

The Nest's citizens had no doubt thought that the good General had gone quietly insane. This was definitely proof. He had become Half-Dragon. Much the way the late Arkayid was. He paced the platform assembled in front of the Wyverns.

"Strange tidings were brought to me. The land that we came from is no longer what we thought it was. The Great Queen Jadeira was executed just a few days ago, by rabble. Rabble whose masters, you do not know of but I, I do. No one knew where I came from, that had always been my intention."

"There is a land to the far north. About a three weeks flight, a kingdom of islands. Pirates, scum, slavemasters, you name it, its there. I was one of the best of their ranks. I served their emperor, back when an emperor strong enough, could withhold justice in that moral wasteland. If they have arrived here... Then I know that the Kasidian Empire and the Midnight Throne are vastly different things then I knew them. We are going to war against them. Laos' demons were but a warm up. They are highly organized, motivated, and more dangerous then that Black King is. Not only that but they are human." He orated as he paced.

"Simply put, we're going against the best of the best. Shiro's Wyverns, in their heyday, would be considered green troops to their elite wyvern calvary. We were good. Quite proud of you, I was, my children. But they're better. Now, I ask you one thing: Are you willing to go to war with me, or do we stay here, and wait for this storm to blow over?" He asked the crowd.

It was silent, except for the rattling of armor as the Wyverns checked their armor, their weapons, and then their mounts. "I will take that as a yes. First, I must visit an old friend." He declared. "Wait for my signal to move out. Until then, wait here. GO about your live, sleep. Relax. Play. You'll be missing that when we get started."

He mentally called the Wyvern Guard to him. They marched in lock step. "Once again, my children, I must draw upon your strength. Magically, I was not what I once was."

One of them nodded, and reached out. Auren took the massive draconic being's hand and drew power to it, to open a gate spell. Said gate spell's destination, was the throne room of Domachi.

* * *

A burning cut in reality opened above the floor, and spun open, with the General stepping through. Two more Wyvern Guard stepped through, and the portal closed.

Auren looked at Toleranth's guests, and looked at Yumiru. He blinked. That couldn't be her. He had only withdrawn into the tower just yesterday. Of course, how the Kasidian Empire dropped into Esperanza without his hearing about it was a mystery to him but he did not have time to bode on that.

"Lord Tolerath... It has been... a while? Yes, I suppose it has been, Lord Toleranth..." He intoned as he waited for a lull in the conversation.
PostPosted: Tue May 13, 2008 5:08 pm

Toleranth looked at Iris, and then at Auren for a moment. He looked back at Iris; "Apology accepted, but i guess centuries of refelcting in hindsight does that to a person. Hamlin has much respect in my book, as do you and daisy. Had I taken offense to what you said earlier I wouldn't have given hamlin the chance to correct your action. So feel free to speak you mind and interject at any time. However A friend has come to pay me a visit, I'll ask that you retire for the evening, the guard outside the door will see to your housing requirments."

Hamlin nodded respectfully, and afforded Auren the same respectful nodd before turning and heading for the door.

Toleranth turned his attention to Auren; "It has been awhile, but it seems Jadeira was well like by many for so many of us to come out of the shadows in the twilight of her life. Yes my daughter has come of age hasn't she, you look on her as if you just snatched her out of the woods yesterday with Loas's demons licking her heels, and she is coming to be allot like Vermillion was."

Toleranth walked to a table and picked up two empty goblets, and tapping the side the contents appeared that he desired. "Care for a drink Auren, or you not staying long?"

"I... will not be staying long. I need to see a few things with my own eyes first. Though, I should tell you something, yes. You may not know it but the mobs have the support of an empire stronger then the entirety of Esperanza. Well, mostly. I would advise you to stay within your own borders. They have Wyvern Knights... And if they deployed the more... elite units... then any messengers you send are being invited onward."

He paced and then stopped. "In comparison... The Wyverns would be considered a green... maybe regular unit. I want to take a little trip. See how things have been... in my absence. I was from that Empire. A clean little civil war saw my own exodus from there. However, it'll be interesting to see."

Auren yawns and stops. "It'll be interesting, yes. Though I ask you to send an extraction team to the castle. One of my soldiers has run into... complications."
PostPosted: Wed May 14, 2008 3:55 am

"I thought you handled extractions internally within your ranks?" Toleranth set the empty goblet back ont he table and sipped from the one he filled. "Just getting into Esperanza now is going to take a few days, night flying is out due to the presence of a moon in the night sky, and about the only other way to sneek in under a mage's eye would be ride a thunderstorm in..." Toleranth sighed closing his eyes; "Alright what is the targets name and last known location within the castle. I need to know as much as you can tell me, so that the souls I send to die are prepared as much as they can be to get this person home."

Yami had sneaked around the castle to find her husband, but when she heard him talking to Auren she sighed hiding behind a wall. Busy again my love? she projected gently into his mind I heard Yumiru got back safely...and I thought we could celebrate...just us. She knew what Auren meant though. Him being there meant her love might start more fighting, he'd leave her alone again. She just wanted time with him, wanted war and everything to leave them alone. She loved him so much, and got to see him so little.

------------------------------------------

Iris bowed to the pair and followed after Hamlin, staying close to his side.

Daisy silently thank Tolly for not killing her sister and bowed, rushing off to catch up with her sister and Hamlin.
