Wow, I am very sorry. Sometimes it is hard to lose a book because there are so many memories attached to it. I hope that everyone/thing else is ok.

That's a bit harsh, isn't it?

I read articles about the chaos in New Orleans. Beatings, rapes, corpses littering the streets...

How are you living knowing that more than just your books were destroyed. Are you okay> Are all your friends and family okay?
PostPosted: Sat Sep 03, 2005 4:02 pm

At least you have enough sense to not risk your life for your books. I don't know that I could be that logical. Losing books for me is like losing a part of my family.

It's easy not to care about the effects of the hurricane when you don't personally know anyone affected by it but this brings it close to home for me.

yes it is, however its just when you live in a city thats below sea level then if anything at all happens you get flooded. I am quite sure that they know that so I dont understand why you would live there. then again I am not over there so I shouldnt pass judgement.

I'd be quite interested to know where you live, because I can't think of very many "safe" places. I live in Florida, though not for lack of sense. Lightening strike capitol of the world, at sea level, and prone to hurricanes and tornados, I've seen my share. But my parents moved here when I was young, and when I got a little older I had no money to move (nor anywhere to go).
Now I'm preparing to move to North Carolina, which is also subject to flooding and hurricane bands. But it's a beautiful state, and relatively inexpensive to live there. And my family lives there. And the university of my choice is there (as well as several wonderful dance schools). So I, knowing the risks, choose to go.

I can feel nothing but sadness and empathy for those who could not (and even those who would not) leave the city of New Orleans. Many have lost everything. If you can't feel sorry for the people who chose to live there, what about the little kids who had no choice? Or the old people without family who couldn't move? Or the poor people who couldn't move (and likely couldn't evacuate either)?

thankfully we stil have a place to live, it was only my dad's house that got flooded, and we are all fine, as well as my friends, other thatn the books i lost a very expensive robot, but my dad says its fixable. However, we have to tear the walls down and everything and dad was remodeling his kitche, so know all those brand new cabinents and maybe even one of the appliences are ruined. But I really feel sorry for those in New Orleans. I'm glad I live in Al and not there.
