A stretch of field edged with some aging stone buildings.

Fred sat atop a crumbling stone wall, a cigarette in his hand lazily emitting a trail of smoke that wound upwards towards the sky.

He liked coming here, it was relaxing. They had similar ruins on his own world, though a bit more decayed.

Here and there graffiti was written across the rocks, and there were a few broken beer bottles lying about, but otherwise it was untouched.

Peaceful.

Fred leaned back on one hand, bringing the other up so he could take a drag from the cigarette, eyes slowly roaming the expanse of the field with no real purpose.

Almost feels like another world out here, doesn't it? No noise, masses of insects...trivial social bullshit....cell phones. *He smirked, glancing up to him as he came into view around one of the crumbled walls just behind and to the left of Fred.*

Fred made a disgusted face, taking another drag from his cigarette before holding it absently out to Asher.

"Whoever invented ring-tones should be strung up by his feet and have his skin flayed from his body by a hot whip while his family watches." He said, finally turning his head to look the other boy over. Likely, if anyone but Asher had interrupted his peace and quiet they would have come to regret it. Asher, however, was one of the few people on this world he genuinely tolerated- mostly because he wasn't actually from this world at all.

He accepted the cigarette, more so out of a social gesture than his want for tobacco. He took a drag before politely handing it back.

"Agreed." he muttered, breathing the smoke out as he spoke.

He leaned his shoulder back against the wall Fred was perched on, comfortable as the breeze shifted his bangs around his eyes.

Fred took back the cigarette, letting it sit between his fingers as a trail of smoke curled gently upwards.

"Today is Den Inneren Schweinehund überwinden." The german dialect slid fluidly from his lips. Fred flicked ashes from the dwindling cigarette down towards the grass.

"To conquer one's own weakness." Fred translated, tilting his head slightly as he stared across the flat expanse of grass. It was a day usually celebrated by parades and demonstrations of magical, physical, and mental power. His Majesty would later give a speech through the the network, closing with the world anthem and a salute to the flag just as the sun was almost set.

"Victory day. At night, fireworks in colours and patterns you cannot even imagine."

Fred held up his hand, spanning his fingers across the blue stretch of sky. The last of the ash clinging to his spent cigarette released itself, tumbling gently down his fingertips.

He watched him, silent as he spoke before he withdrew his wand, gesturing somewhat to the setting sun.

"I'm certain it's nothing compared to what you're used to...but I know a few spells that put on a good light show.. Granted the rest of the holiday isn't going to be celebrated, but in the very least you could have the ending ceremony?" he asked, glancing up to him again.

"It's....frustrating not to be able to enjoy the dates and rituals you once loved to participate in... Cultures are placed in all social aspects to give us something to believe in...be a part of...relate..." he trailed off for a moment, looking back to the sun.

"It's hard to have that honest comfort in a place you know you don't belong. As cliche and pitiful as that sounds. It can make things so wearisome."

Fred raised an eyebrow at Asher and reached over, sliding a thumb over the other boy's jaw and trailing his fingers against his neck and underneath his hair.

He was appreciative of the gesture yet doubtful Asher could produce something nearly as beautiful. Yes, it would be an honest and- disturbingly caring - attempt, but it would lack the specific pride and patriotism the fireworks were usually infused with.

"I have a better idea." Fred said, lazily rubbing small circles onto the back of Asher's neck with his fingertips, not elaborating.

He really didn't feel as if he'd have to.

Asher observed him for a moment, silent as he allowed Fred to touch his neck. He found it amusing how words that could be taken as sympathetic, caring and almost loving could cause the former soldier to shy away, yet his physical gestures spoke more in care than words ever could.

He thought he ought to tell him that his actions seemed sentimental, sappy even, but Asher enjoyed the touch too much to ruin it and valued their odd friendship so much so that he wouldn't want to hurt Fred's pride or cause him self doubt.

"Assuming it's what I believe it to be, I concur with that idea."

"It is." Fred said, leaning forward. His fingers, still entwined in Asher's hair, tightened as he yanked the other teenager's head back- somewhat forcefully and just for the fun of it, but mostly to make it easier for him to devour Asher's mouth.

The smallest of noises escaped his throat, allowing Fred to yank him around before they kissed. He pressed his mouth back roughly, growling as he reached up and took a hold of the stone wall to lift himself up.

His boots scraped along the stone, sliding slightly before he got a good hold and promptly straddled Fred's legs.

His leather pants scraped against the rough stone wall as shifted on top of it, one hand still tangled up in Asher's hair.

Fred twisted his fingers into the fabric of Asher's shirt and made a fist, dragging him even closer to the heat of his body as the last slivers of sun slipped past the horizon.

A fitting end after all.

*Glances up as a breath of early autumn breeze catches in her hair, her nose crinkling at the touch of cold; scrambles up from her sitting position perched atop the stone wall and drops to her high heel clad feet* Father?

*Looks up in mid stomp, startled and flushed in the face. Hair whips around him, caught up in the cool breeze before it falls silkily over his shoulders*

Rubella. Dearest, what are you doing out here?
