Nis swatted playfully at a stick laying on the ground in front of him. He was waiting for Ona, she'd said she might be a little late and so he wasn't too worried. She probably just had things to do at home before she could leave. For Nis this was an exciting but somewhat sad day, now that he was adult everyone was expecting him to grow up and be more mature, to settle down and stay close to home. That wasn't the life Nis wanted to lead though, he loved adventure and getting into trouble, the thrill of the adrenaline pulsing through his veins, that was what he lived for and this could be his last chance to feel it. Sighing to himself he began padding in circles, leaving a trail in the tall grass as he pressed it down. I hope Ona shows up soon... I want to leave before midday. he thought to himself as he continued trying to wear down a path in the tall grass.

Ona was running at top speed towards Nis ‘I hope he didn’t leave.” She thought as she panted. After a while of running she saw Nis and a grin appeared on her face .she stopped running and began to creep towards him quietly. When she was sure she was close enough she pounced on him “Got ya!”

Nis had been alerted to something approaching him but the rustling grass but just as he was about to go inspect the source of the noise he saw a flash of creamy fur and then he was on the ground. Pawing at Ona's stomach trying to get her off he yowled in faux alarm. After a little bit of tusseling Nis got up and meowed happily. "Hi Ona, how are you? Are you ready to go?" he asked as he looked his friend over and brushed off some grass that was clinging to her pelt with a paw before checking his own over for any would-be hitchhiking debris.

“I’m doing fine. Sorry I was a bit late they caught me before I could leave and they forced me to do all this other junk before I leave.” Ona said flicking her tail around. “Of course I’m ready to go!” she said with glee. She loved being able to hang out with Nis

Nis shook his head as if disgusted "They couldn't do it themselves could they?" he laughed. After looking around a bit he turned to look back at Ona as she answered his second question. "Ok, so... I was thinking, if you want to, it would be cool to go out to the other island..." he said, fully aware that she may end up staring at him like he was crazy. The small island was very difficult to get too and as far as Nis knew no one had tried to get there, that had made it back to tell about it at least.

Ona looked at Nis for a few seconds. “The island that who ever gone there has never comes back?” She said still looking at him “Sure!.” She said shortly after with a smile. “but we going to have to get past these badlands first.”

Nis was about to start in with all of his arguments he'd thought up while waiting for her as to why it would be fun and they should go when she said "Sure" and he had to do a double take. Then he remembered, this was Ona he was talking to. His best friend since they could see, always willing to go along with his plans and bail him out of trouble. He purred happily and brushed his tail against her playfully. "Alright, lets get going then, the sooner we make it through them the sooner we can try to figure out how we're going to cross the water." he meowed before taking off at a fast walk in the direction of the ocean, and their destination, the mysterious island.

“Let’s head off! “ Ona said with glee as she ran ahead of Nis “Just try and keep up!” She yelled to him as she continued to run

Nis laughed as she darted ahead of him and quickly set off after her. He was soon running with her, stride for stride and they were quick coverage of the badlands. He could smell the salty sea air... or maybe it was just the salt in the sand he smelled? Either way they were at least making progress. "How long do you think it's going to take to get there?" he asked Ona as they ran.

Ona came to a swift stop. “I have no idea Nis. I have never met anyone who has gone this far. But I’m guessing maybe a few days” She said with a shrug before whipping off the sweat on her face using her tail

Nis stopped just ahead of her before turning back to sit with her on the hot sand. He was getting very hot and extremely thirsty. "Maybe we should try to find some shelter and rest for awhile." he said while wiping the sweat from his head with a forepaw.
He went off to explore and came back with his tail twitching happily. "I found an abandoned burrow and it's huge, come on." he purred as he led her to the hole he'd found. He couldn't imagine what kind of animal would want to live here in this hot, dry place but at least their old home provided shelter now.
He crawled through the opening first and then settled down in the dark cool space. He wished that the stale scent of the former inhabitant was familiar to him so he could know what it was but he had no idea and soon gave up trying to picture the shelter's former inhabitant. "Nice isn't it?" he asked Ona when she'd joined him.

“it’s perfect!” she exclaimed stretching out in the nice cool earth. She didn’t really care that her nice white fur was getting dirty. She never really did but she was always forced to keep it clean. “so cool..” she purred with happiness.

Nis purred too. The cool shade of the burrow was like heaven after walking for so long in the scorching heat. It was still daylight outside, he could see the light of the sun reaching down the long tunnel. "Ona, maybe we should get some sleep and continue tonight when it's cooler?" he suggested with a smile. Travelling at night would have to be a lot less exhausting than travelling under the hot sun of the bad lands.

“That’s a perfect idea!” She said delighted with not having to walk in the sun. “And how about we only travel at night too?” Ona suggested before yawning. Traveling in the sun and making the mistake of running used up most of her energy. She quickly rearranged her self into a more comfortable pose and peacefully went to sleep
