At first, I wanted to avoid it like the plague, but my repulsion twisted into curiosity and compelled me to watch. I tried to convince myself I hated it, but now I cannot get any of it out of my head. Bittersweet--

The movie seemed to age him and it just didn’t suit him as much as the drunken pirate I have come to love. The reason why I was not initially taken with Sweeny Todd was because I thought, “How interesting could a movie about a barber be, demon or no?” After watching the movie a second time, I realized another major problem was the actors for Anthony and Johanna were detestable. Johanna was not the lark I believe they intended her to be and neither of the lovebirds did anything more than perhaps make me miserable.

It made me hungry. After watching it with my sister and a friend, I was like "Hey guys, let's go get some meat pies!" biggrin
...But there were no convinient meat pie shops in the neighborhood. So we got pizza.
In all seriousness, I did like it. It wasn't anywhere near to the best movie I've ever seen, but I did like it.

It was a wonderful movie! Hilarious and gruesome, what was even better is it would make for the perfect movie to watch on Halloween. For me music wise it ranks up there with Phantom of the Opera. ^-^

I like it and I don't like it. I'm all kinds of confused. cry I enjoyed it for the most part but there was something that was holding me back from loving it.

It was....okay.
I'm a total theatre nerd so I was sort of skeptical from the beginning. I was excited to pay $7 instead of $80 to see Sweeney Todd, but still, I had a lot of quarrels with the way the movie went down. The only two modern movies (past 5 years) I've liked that were made from Broadway musicals have been Chicago and The Producers.
The singing was simplified from it's original score, and even after that it wasn't great, the melodramatic spirit of the show was completely taken away, the storyline was pared down to within an inch of it's life (seriously. The movie was like an hour long. The original show is 2 hours!). Beyond that, I thought some of the casting and character choices were really poor.
Having seen the movie, and also being a fan of the original show, I have to say that Sweeney Todd is probably my least favorite Tim Burton film. Not to say it didn't have it's merits. "By the Sea" was hilarious, and I think they made use of film as a medium really well.
tl;dr: It sucked.

I liked the movie and I think it's good so long as you don't expect it to be like in a theater. It seemed different than the play but I still think it was good, and I loved Toby. It did seem like the plot was watered down somewhat, though.

If you want to listen to Sweeney Todd for the music, look for the version of the stage play presented by Showtime Entertainment with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn--it's available on DVD. If you want it for the spectacle, watch the production by Tim Burton. Although Johnny Depp did a good job, Helena Bonham Carter was ill-suited for the role, as she can barely carry a tune. My other complaint about the Tim Burton production was that they cut several songs from the musical and the entire subplot concerning the Asylum. I didn't much like the ending, either.

It was pretty good, but could've been a little better. I really liked it though. I'm just a huge Tim Burton fan though lol x3
