Over the summer I found a ton of loli tops and blouses at thrift stores and such, but I still only have one skirt that's even close...... I buy most my stuff from thrift shops, and I don't really have money to buy things from specific stores, but could you guys point me in the direction of some skirts? If you can, 40$ or less. Also, I don't really know what kind of skirt to be looking for when it comes to altering. most skirts I find at thrift stores and such are form fitted for suits and such, and could never fit over a petticoat of be altered to be lolita. Please help>DX

The evil-ness that is HT sadly has quite a few things that could be consittered EGL, but more along the EG part. I got a shirt over there for a dinner-party that laces up the front like a corset, and has a box-collar like old Victorian dressed. It's really up to what look you're going for: EGL or EGA. I'm insanely tall, so I can pull of EGA aswell.

Would you rather something like DEB or Rave carry things lolita than Hot Topics. I actually like some of their clothing, just not the people who shop there, well not most of them. Tripp makes such nicer stuff but they always seem to have old stuff or things that are absolutely ugly. But anywho...
Are you wanting patterns at all? Hot Topics..... sadly.... does have some lolita-like dresses. Um, if you go onto Cosmates they have some for about $14 over that. I cant think of any other American ones sides Ebay to find skirts that cheap online.
Um, you could very easily modify skirts. Uh a technique a friend does with clothing is she prints out or takes a picture from a magazine of an outfit she likes, whether it costs hundreds of dollars or about $50 for the whole thing. She then goes out to the store looking for articles of clothing close to the outfit in the picture. Then if she wants to or has to to make it more like the picture or how she wants it she modifies it to her liking. I cant really think of something to tell you since I only can really say about getting patterns, modifying, or ordering online which almost never are $40 or under. Sorry I couldn't help you much.

I've been finding that stores like walmart, kmart, and sears have some pretty nifty skirts and shirts that could easily be altered to look very lolita.

Mushroom Flavored Water As much as we hate hot topic @_@ they have a few skirts there that could be altered to be lolita. for some reason, i dont think a skirt from hot topic usually applies as "under $40." i wanted this one loli skirt there about a year ago and it was $44

well, it's not a skirt, but I found a very EGA top in Old Navy. the sleeves aren't as poofy as I'd like, but it's got a high collar and it's made of lace...I wear a camisole under it. they had it in black and off white. I thought it looked better in off white.

Make a skirt! I made a skirt simply by getting 4 meters of fabric (width) and then cutting the length I wanted, hemming the bottom, making a wide channel at the top. Then I sewed the end thoether so the skirt was a very wide cylinder and threaded elastic through the channel, pinning so it fitted my waist. Its very simple, cheap, as its handmade it fits exactly and is unique- you can use whatever material you like and whater trimmings etc.

If you're interested in commissions, I could make you a fairly simple skirt for that price (really, prices for commissions depend on materials used and how much detailing you want on it). I'm going to be starting an indies gothic & lolita brand in the Winter, I'm still working on logos now, and I have the term test of doom time coming up soon, so my website won't be up until Winter most definetly >_<;.
You can PM me for more information if you would like ^_^.

You can wear a slip and then wear a blouse under/over it. Then you could buy a petticoat(a really nice one) and wear it over the slip. sweatdrop
