What is the purpose for Sesshoumaru's fur known as the 'Mokomoko'? I don't know... 4laugh He always wears it...is it just an accessory of his?

It is said somewhere that Rumiko T said that it is part of his armor, and that it should have been short but she got carried away drawing it confused Quote: Mokomoko-sama : It is the fluffy, scarf-like item on Sesshômaru's shoulder. Sesshômaru can extend it to great lengths, and use it to whip or constrict people. The creator, Rumiko Takahashi stated that when she was creating Sesshômaru, the thing was supposed to be armor, but she went a little out of hand. In episode 35 of the anime, both ends of the fluff are seen, therefore allowing one to assume that it is detachable. Instead of having the fluff draped over his shoulder, it is instead behind his head, both ends extending down to past his waist, as a pillow. Sesshômaru's father had two mokomoko-sama, that extended from the shoulders like Sesshômaru's leading some to believe that when Sesshomaru fully matures he will have two of them as well, however, since the human form of Inu no Taisho wasn’t created by Rumiko Takahashi in the movie and was never revealed in the manga it can’t be considered canon. Also it bares a striking resemblance to the fur that separates Tessaiga’s blade from the hilt; this isn’t surprising as both have a common origin. In addition to all of that, if you were to look carefully at Sesshoumaru in his true form, you'd come to realize that Mokomoko-sama on his shoulder looks almost identical to the band of fur running across his back. So my estimate would be that Sesshoumaru also retains a piece of his original self when he transforms into his temporary humanoid-form. 3nodding

well i've seen it help slow down attacks to lessen damage done by swords in the 3rd movie and during the first battle with his brother Inuyasha he made it extend to grab him by the throat and fling him into a wall. XD I believe though it's that extra fur that you see on his shoulder in his true form.

from what I can see- it's partially alive- it can move on its own accord, so I would say it is part of him... when he was injured it seemed like it wrapped itself around him .
it is part of his armor, too.... but it never- ever completely leaves his body!
whatever mokomoko is- Sesshomaru wouldn't be Sesshomaru without it

Rikku Hajime Kungfudemoness it bleeds in the third movie eek thats cause the sword just barely made it past the fluff to his shoulder but at least it didin't go all the way through is what i'm saying. While I may not consider the movies canon (aside from Izayoi and the Inu no Taishou), it was confirmed in the manga that Mokomoko-sama does in fact bleed. You can read my evidence of such in the spoilers below if you wish. [spoilers] Somewhere in chapters 470~500 (I can't locate the exact chapter, but it's the chapter where he earns Bakusaiga), there's a scene where Sesshoumaru is seriously damaged and his mokomoko had gaping holes, gauges and blood all over the place. [/spoilers] So, does Mokomoko-sama bleed? Certainly. Elaborating from my previous post, I think it's an extension of his body... kinda like a third arm.

Thats what i thought it was. That's quite alright. I'm sure there are a lot of fans out there that have only seen the animations. :3 Aye, indeed your assumption is correct. If you look carefully, you'll notice that Mokomoko-sama looks very similar to that band of fur running across Sesshoumaru's original form's back. I think when he puts on his humanoid form, he retains a piece of his original self. Also, if you paid attention while watching the third movie, when the Inu no Taishou transforms, you'll notice that his cape-like Mokomoko looks a lot like the fur that runs down his back and the cleft that splits its lower end into two pieces becomes two tails. :3
