Neid pawed at the bones of a carcass that had long since been picked clean by wolves, wild cats, and other scavengers. Why was she always on the bottom end of the totom pole? Her brother, Mavis, wasn't around to help her this time. And the voice in the back of her mind seemed to drive her insane most of the time. She had contracted her 'other self' the day she was born, just like Mavis, but unlike him hers had began to talk the day after she was born. She hadn't know any other voice other than her family's and her other self's. She hadn't named her darker half yet, like Mavis did, but that didn't bother her darker half at all. In fact it seemed that the darker Neid was pleased that she wasn't named yet.

"Why me," she muttered under her breath. "Why me?" The darker half chuckled, but said nothing. "b***h," she whispered hoarsly under her breath, knowing that her un-named side would hear it, but she didn't say anything about it. "Stupid Neid. Why didn't Neid stay with Mavis. Mavis could have caught something for Neid and Mavis, but Neid decided to wander away from Mavis."

Shaking her head, she wandered away from the bones and continued onward towards anything that might have flesh still attached to it.

A shadowed figure had followed in after the female, aiming for the same scrap of crumbled and shattered bones as the pitiful omega, brought to no higher level in his desperation. It had been some time since he had last consumed a decent meal. But the bones would not harbor any piece of mercy; no scrap of meat, not morrow buried like gold deep within their ivory confines, nothing...and once more the Bishop was empty handed. His tail lowered in defeat but a mild placid expression lingered on his maw. Disappointment seemed to n** at his heels perpetually, so his failure here made not a lick of difference to him.

Upon closer inspection a new scent wafted from the pile of bones as soon as his hungry mind was clear of all hope which caused his ears to swivel forward in mild interest. The smell came from a female, a sex he had not run into for quite some time, and it was apparent she did not belong with the ones who originally killed the creature considering her scent was new. A lone wolf like himself? "Hmm..." he mumbled, staring down at her empty tracks that paused at the carcass before disappearing...it was almost alarming that she had passed this way not to much longer than him, which gave him the hope of actually coming in contact with the female who he knew was in a short distance away.

But did he want to make contact? Did she want his company?

It was then the Bishop decided to no pursue the girl. If they were to run into one another that was fate's way of pulling them together like a gravitational pull. A pull that was in some way meant to be. It was true that Grencia, as he was called, liked to control things for himself, but he had learned that letting go and running with the flow was often the best way of reaching your destination. The only problem was that he didn't know what his destination was or if it even existed. Not anymore anyway. There was once a time he believed in doing what was write by yourself or by others was a path to reaching something greater, but now he didn't know if that something greater even existed.

Turning, he slinked from the carcass following after the tracks but not with the intention of pursuing the female. Though curiosity begged him, reason felled his interest. It was a better to leave things as they were he discovered.

[sorry about the delay]

Neid stopped in her tracks as she caught a scent from behind her. What was it? It had stopped at the bones that she had picked through, but she doubted that the other wolf might have stopped there for long, too. She flicked her ears back and forth, unsure of what the other wolf was going to do. Could the other wolf catch her scent in the area and follow it? If so then she was in big trouble. She didn’t know how to defend herself since her brother did that for her. He was long gone somewhere far and out of reach. Why did she even let him leave? Why did she leave him to begin with to attempt to go hunting for the both of them? Was it because she wanted to show him that she wasn’t some coward? Don’t be so sure of that, Princess, the dark voice said to her in a bone-chilling voice.

She shuddered slightly at the voice. That had been the first time in a while since she had heard a single sentence from her darker side. ‘What do you want?’ she asked her darker side bitterly, not happy with anything the dark side said. Just was commenting about what you were thinking. I am sure he doesn’t take you as a coward, but he as one. He thinks it is Mother’s fault for our ‘condition’. Neid growled angrily at that. How could he think such thoughts? It wasn’t Mother’s fault that both of them had other ‘sides’ to them. It was just an inheritance from her-something that both of them hated and regretted. But why would Brother think that? “Mavis does not think that. Mavis knows that Neid cannot help but to have darker side,” she muttered under her breath.

Ignoring her darker side, which had started to talk to her again, she turned her attention to the new wolf that might or might not approach her soon. She was curious why someone might follow either her scent or her tracks. She didn’t have anything for the other wolf. Maybe it might take her as a slave? Or it might hunt her down since food was still scarce despite Winter coming to a close. “Who is out there?” she asked aloud, not knowing if the other wolf might reply to her. “I have no food so if that is what you are seeking then look elsewhere.”

((It's no problem. I'll probably take a while to reply. I've been very busy of late))

Grencia did not know of the voices that taunted the female in the short distance, nor had he realized she had stopped having caught his scent and was now glancing back in his direction. Instead his pads carried him forward without much mind to what was going on in the present world and instead were walking once more scorched by the heat of the sandy atmosphere of that long ago memory. The gentle breeze that blew him in the wood now was a turbulent squall that threatened to send the sand into a furry, burring him and his comrades alive. This of course never happened, but the mire remembrance created a small smile on his adult face, a sort of nostalgia that both brought him great pleasure and great abhorrence for the proceeding events.

Reality only became his consciousness when he heard the voice just before him, causing him to abruptly stop and whip his head to his left searching for the gentle creator of the apprehensive voice. He spotted her through the foliage. His expression hardly changed, only added a soft smile to his otherwise placid stare, but that was a considerable step from his usual brooding negligence which otherwise would mold him into a lifeless dull statue. Now that she had asked him these questions he was obligated to introduce himself and answer.

"It seems I'm out of luck then," he said, dipping his head as he approached. His look was unthreatening; his tail hung at his feet, his ears were forward but not dominant, and his stare was distant, not enraged.
"Excuse my intrusion," he told the smaller female whose vibrant exterior was quite brilliant, "But it seems our travels have brought us down the same path." He was a little more reluctant to answer her first question, but pulled it forward slowly, but expected an answer to his own questions. "I'm Gren...may I ask, what is your name and why is it you are traveling alone? You should be careful out here."

[sorry about the delay...again X.X]

Neid flicked an ear as she spotted the black male wolf approach her with his head dipped down. This wolf seemed more kinder than he really should have. If Neid didn't have any control on her other side, the darker half would have already snapped at the male wolf. But Neid had more control over the darker half than she had realized because she could feel her other side grumbling miserably in the back of her mind. 'Don't get all bent out of shape,' she snapped at her darker half. 'This wolf isn't that much of a threat to us. Let's just listen to what he has to say and then we can move on our way. I am sure that's what Brother wanted us to do if he was here with us.' That was the problem, though. Mavis wasn't there with 'them' and now Neid was lost at what to do. If only she had stayed with him.

"Neid," she said, responding one of Grencia's many questions he had asked her. "Neid was following brother Mavis but got lost while trying to hunt for brother. Was finding him but got lost. Perhaps Gren has seen Mavis? Mavis is dark blue with teal markings. Male and bigger than Neid." She tilted her head to one side and gazed at the male wolf curiously. "Was it that on your side?" She was curious of the meaning of the chess piece on his side.
