Right now I have a Epiphone SG special. I'm looking into getting either a Jackson King V(X series I think they call it) or maybe an ESP V-200. I play metal and really don't use clean tones alot so it' doesn't really matter if the clean tones aren't that great. So I was just posting to see if anyone had experience with either guitar.

I'd go with the Jackson King V. But I guess it depends on whether you want a Floyd Rose or not.
The Jackson does have Duncan Designed pickups though, if that helps your choice at all.

Well if I had to choose, I would pick the King V. It seems to have better pickups, better hardware, and it's cheaper unless i'm mistaken.
A friend of mine has a Jackson V though, and the input jack will poke you in the leg if you play sitting down.

Personally though, I would buy something with a more... "Conventional" shape though. I preffere to be comfortable, and like to play sitting down.

I wouldnt go with the JS30 or X series, they are pretty cheap.
But, I suppose it's a great way to get ahold of a decent King V body for cheap, well, to modify it.

yeah, Jacksons usually come equiped with better hardware, though if you
can find a nice ESP with EMGs, I would probably go for that one.

I'm a Jackson Fan heh.

I have been leaning torwards the King V. But I'll wait until I go to the guitar store tomorrow. If I got one of the cheaper ones I would probably swap out the pick ups anyway. I hear Duncan pick ups are nice but you can never tell until you play it yourself.

Do yourself a favor: Play a few jacksons, then a few ESP's, then play a Musicman Guitar.

Isn't the cheapest musicman still around like $1,300?

I think you can get a sub 1 for like 500 on ebay. I bought a silhouette for 800 on ebay instead.

And it probably plays and sounds better than most guitars going up to a $3000 price range. Not to mention the customer service is unparalleled.

The reason I say that is that you can get a cheap jackson that will need parts and maintenance in 5 years time or you can get a guitar that will last you a lifetime. Save up for something worthwhile and stay away from "licensed under" floyd bridges. You will replace them within 3 years of steady use.

I have the DV8-R which is upscale from the V-200. the body is amazin! I love it to death! I know the V-200 is a bolt on and won't feel as good as the DV8R, but still, looks wise I'd say the V-200 because the body, I also have a JSKE30 which is the same series as the JSKV30 the neck is pretty good, but i'll admit i dont play it as much as the DV8R.

Also, I don't know about the Jackson V but on my DV8R the cable plug is angles and does not poke me in the leg. I assume the V-200 is designed the same way.
