Her body went stiff as she left the water's touch, and her eyes beamed forward with a usual doubt and glare. Thank goodness the sun had gone away, since Delmare despised the brightness it caused. The night was pleasantly dark for the moment, but the mare was anxious at the thought of walking too far away from the beach's edge. Her anxiety was a usual occurrence, and she groaned as she stared ahead and into the landscape. Her thoughts were so random, and she couldn't figure out what her mood was. A part of her felt comfortable, while another side felt angry for some reason. Since the water was calmly hitting her hoof, she decided to also remain calm, since she felt connected to the element in that sense.

The water tended to drive her a bit crazy, so it there was no surprise to her random attacks of emotion. With a sneer, she felt a rock drift onto her hoof from the current, and she quickly shook it off before turning to the anchor by her leg. Why was she always so bounded to such a place? Some days she hated the water, whereas others she felt consistently dependent. It was such a strange life, that only her sisters could help her cope with such a weird connection of nature. It had been a few months since she had had any social contact, but Delmare was not phased. Time didn't occur for her, it only happened to everyone else.

The brawny stallion moved through the darkness almost noiselessly, his red eyes gleaming brighter than his silver hair in the darkness. The water was one of his favorite places to go, fo many reasons. It cooled him, after a long session with his father- a chivalrous but misguided stallion-, it vaguely even reminded him of his mother. And it reminded him of himself. All he had to do was look at his hooves to see the oddly wave-like markings. And when he thought of his name... well, where better to see your reflection than in the water?

His silent walk turned into a gallop before he even thought about it, hair whipping in the wind. He splashed into a small wave, shaking, before gazing up and down the beach. Which way to go? He closed his eyes and felt the way the same moved under his hooves, before turning and chasing the current. It was a way to decide, wasn't it?

He would be able to be heard from a ways away, galloping through the shallows of the water, relaxed, smelling nothing but the water in his nose. It would be nicer if it was daylight, he supposed. He'd at least be able to see a little better. But right now, he didn't care, enjoying the first bit of freedom he'd had in some time.

It didn't take long for Delmare to hear the stallion's movements. She could hear the splashing he made, and how awful it sounded! Her ears twitched back and forth, and she grunted with an ill manner. He was most likely enjoying himself, but she was not. Her eyes couldn't find the figure at all against the darkness, so she only sighed while trying to ignore the splashing. He was disrupting the water's movements, and chopping up his specimen by his heavy hooves! What a vulgar way to treat the water.

Despite the noise, Delmare lowered her tail into the water, only to gently allow the strands of hair to soak and swim around in an enjoyable way. Her heart was pounding from the disturbance around her, but her mind was trying hard to remain gentle, since the water was telling her to do so. When the waves were thrashing, she knew it was a good sign to be just as violent back. But now wasn't the time, was it? Maybe the one running wasn't as much of an enemy as the mare was predicting? But to her, everyone she didn't know where enemies, and that was quite a range of creatures for her to avoid. But the heavy hoof-sounds were somewhat compelling, since many never dared to approach her or the darkest patch of water in such a loud way. Maybe this stallion was a fool? Or maybe he was just there for the water, like she.

His eyes were on the ground, watching where he trod more than anything else. He was a confident- overconfident, perhaps- that he would be able to handle anything that threatened him. The feeling that nothing could go wrong always affected him when he ran like this. He was alone in the world, and no one...

His eyes caught on a reflection in the water, a little to the front of him, and he pulled up quickly. Maybe he wasn't alone. There was another form there, one he never would have noticed if it weren't for a glint of moon that peeked out enough to lighten everything. His head pulled up, and he looked at the other soquili, gleaming eyes bright with curiosity. He'd never gotten around to meeting anyone out of his extended family. Interesting.

Delmare's eyes were only following a bright red that shown off in the distance. The stallion's eyes were appealing, and they were full of blood and life. She was enjoying the way they looked against the darkness, and of course, she was enjoying how distinct they were compared to everything else. She had almost forgotten that the stallion was even approaching her, or that a creature was going to be in her presence soon.

Lifting her tail up slowly, the mare only dragged her anchor a step across the sand while turning her body towards the red spectacles. She had nothing to say, of course, since speaking was only necessary in some moments of life. Plus she was still a bit confused as to why this stallion was even coming near her, she was a terrible thing after all. Maybe her calmness was shielding the truth? But there was no lie to her content self- the stallion was only finding her on a peaceful trail.

Should she change herself to make things more amusing? Even thinking about such a task felt exhausting, and the mare decided to brush the idea off unless completely necessary.

He shifted his weight, watching silently for a few moments. "That sounds heavy." He could hear something scraping through the sound, and it must be something heavy, to be heard over the noise of the water. He watched, patiently waiting. If she would not speak, nor would he. To assuage his curiosity did no require such.

He took a bold step forward, nearer her, examining her closely. It appeared to be feminine in nature, having a build similar to his sisters, and his mother. She had a horn, perhaps, but in truth, he couldn't tell. Was she a water-beast? A horse from the waves? His mother had told of one she had seen from a distance, once. She'd said the other form appeared to have fins. This one did not look to have fins. Maybe she had fallen into the sea? Or been caught...?

It speaks! With a frowned lip, Delmare lowered her head instinctively while glancing into the stallion's eyes. Now closer, the beast was much taller then her, but she was not phased. In fact, she was not surprised at all, since she was smaller then most of her sisters anyways. "Its heaviness serves a purpose, but the purpose I do not know." The ending to her sentence was grim sounding, but it was sadly true. She was to be binded to the water, but even without this binding she wouldn't have left anyhow. She just hated the scraping, and the stallion most definitely pointed the obvious out. How intuitive of him.

Now that the tall figure was closer, she lowered her eyes to his legs, since they seemed to have some interesting markings on them. The swirls had their own representation, and they were both eerie and beautiful just by first glance. "Tell me," she then said with even a surprise in her own voice, "What do you think hides in the water at night? Monsters?" The biggest question was, why was Delmare responding, and so fruitfully? Had her loneliness exceeded its limit? Or was she betting her solitude on some random markings the stallion carried?

Delmare was most certainly confused herself, but she was intrigued, so that's all that mattered. Her gloomy eyes became brighter with life, and her neck was taller now that she was feeling socially brave. As usual, her emotions had shifted, but what shift would come next? The mare was eager to find out!

It speaks! He glanced at the slight figure, surprise written in blood-red eyes. "Well then why do you keep it with you?" He couldn't help but ask. If it was heavy, it would hold you back, and that, surely, was not to be desired? An assumption, of course, or an opinion. He moved closer yet again, heavy feet making the water splash.

Her question blindsided him. Was she a monster?! "The same thing that hides in the water during the day, of course. Only much better hidden." Well, -he- thought it sounded smart. "Or not. I suppose that what hides in the sea during the day would feel more free to come out at night, and then it wouldn't be quite as well hidden at night, so..."

He was confusing himself now. "I think you understand though."

"It just stays here since its always been here, that's all." she raised a brow slightly, wondering why such a concept was so confusing for the stallion. Her anchor was a weight she had to bear, and it was no one else's but her own. It might have been a pain, but she was well used to it at this point.

"Actually, I have no idea what you are talking about." she then said, with a short tone. "Are you an idiot?" A small chuckle emitted from her mouth, but it was very awkward sounding as well. "I come out at night because I despise the sun." Honestly, who WOULD like the sun? Her tail swished quickly as she pondered such an idea, and she continued to watch the stallion with rolled eyes. Now she was feeling frustrated.. was the stallion trying to be funny? She couldn't figure it out at well! But it was totally annoying, and that was for sure. The mare could feel the discomfort in her mind, and she kept shaking her head every few moments.

And again, Reflection's hopes in his own kind were dashed. It wasn't that she didn't seem to understand the concept of dropping dead weight; it was that he'd assumed a certain level of understanding. Ah, the problem with assumptions.

"I like to think I'm not an idiot." his eyes narrowed, and he snorted. "I like to consider myself a deep thinker, actually. Which might be why you don't understand me." He nodded sagely, but took several steps sideways, starting to move around the mare. All the better to sidle away from the crazy mare....

Delmare watched as the stallion started to move away from her, and she only closed her eyes slowly while listening to his heavy noises. The situation was very normal, as usual. She was moving yet another soul away from her grasp, but it was a habit she had perfected at this point. "Then maybe you aren't." she then said, while opening her eyes quickly to her words.

"I am choosing not to understand you, and that is my own fault. But." she paused, and glanced at the tall stallion once again. "Do I look like the type of mare who enjoys simple speech and causal conversation?" Truthfully, she wasn't sure if she did! "Isn't it apparent that I am not comfortable with this land, or better yet, with myself?" Now she was dragging him into her own mind game, and it would surely prove amusing! "What about for you? Is life always a simple task, or do you feel complexity yourself?"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:28 pm

"I really couldn't say if you look like you enjoy it or not. I can't tell if you enjoy casual conversation. You're the first person outside of my immediate family and a small group of their friends I've ever met. But if I had met more people, I would have to say that I haven't known you long enough to form an honest opinion of you, other than the fact you seem to enjoy carrying around a lot of useless dead weight." his deep voice was not in the least apologetic.

As for his life... "I don't get a lot of complexity in my life. It's pretty simple. My mom's the most talkative mute you ever did meet, and my dad is a chivalrous bigot. I learn to beat stuff up, and provide my mom her daily dose of vocabulary." On second thought, maybe that was a little on the complex side? "How about you?"

"So we are both learning." she then said, with a twisted grin. "I don't get out much either, so I am not a reliable source myself.." the last individual that she talked to had died right in front of her, and Delmare to this day couldn't remember why. Her sister had found her with the corpse, but Delmare was pretty much clueless when found. It was a situation that happened months ago, but she only laughed when she thought about it. Her sister had told her it was because she had become too violent again, but Delmare only shrugged when thinking about such a possibility. What she did was random, and she was fine with that.

"Your family life sounds anything from normal, everyone is unique I'll bet." she then commented, while moving her soaking hair out of her eyes. "Why do you still remain around your guardians?" she spat out her words, since her own opinion on such a thing was negative. "Oh for me, I have seven sisters, but when we are all together bad things happen. Its funny you know." she once again shrugged, not seeing anything different about her own life. Her mood suddenly felt very lazy, so she was slacking a bit in her words. "Do you have sisters?"

Her grin made his red eyes narrow. He could barely make it out, through the dark night, but it made his blood run almost as chill as the water he was standing in.He shifted his weight, taking a firmer stance and glaring down at the mare. "I suppose it depends on what you consider normal. I'd like to think they're all unique, but they're as unique as everyone else, I'm sure."

The wind rustled his mane, and he was suddenly grateful it was so short- he didn't have to turn his eyes away from the mare in front of him in order to toss it out of the way. "I remain with my guardians as I have no mate, no companion to call my own. And truly, it depends on what you mean by remaining with them. Admittedly they are my primary society, but I am hardly like a foal, needing to be guarded night and day." his tone was sulky, almost insulted. "And I have two sisters, the both of which I rarely see. Two brothers, who I also rarely see." Not that he ever sought any of them out...

"A big family, like mine." She then commented, with a sly tone. But brothers, ew. Delmare was glad she had no brothers, she'd probably end up killing them. "Do you choose to rarely see them? Or is it just natural that you don't?" It was a valid question, since Delmare wasn't sure which of the two she did herself. She rarely saw her sisters, but they came together naturally when it was possible or something.

"A primary society, that's interesting. I've never head of that sort of thing before. And, I can clearly see you are not a foal, nor are you weak." she then snapped gently, only because her intelligence should have not been questioned. "I am only learning from your words what this 'family' thing is like. I find it confusing, and unnecessary. But your family is different, and that's why I keep asking about it." With an uncoordinated shrug, the mare then stared at the stallion calmly with a quiet expression.
