The sun was up, the clouds were out and this mare was still... sleeping? Okay, so if it was a good enough excuse it was a humid sort of day and even though it was about noon it was still sort of dark out. Horrible weather some might say, for it was spring, the flowers were blooming and yet... it was nippy and the clouds told an unhappy tale of possible snow. Now that everything had mostly melted, snow certainly wasn't appreciated, nor was it necessary. Winter had been long, cold, and filled with snow so why did it have to force its way into spring as well? Vieno didn't know, all she knew was that she was snuggled up in a patch of grass dreaming about whatever it was horses often dreamt about.
A snowflake fell from the sky, spiralling downwards ever so slowly until it landed on the mare's soft nose. This strange, cold, surprise caused the mare to let her lids slowly flutter open. Looking to the sky, Vieno soon realized that it was... snowing? Smiling to herself she pulled herself up into a standing position and shook her mane so it was no longer in her face. "Snow already, huh?" the mare asked nobody in particular and looked out across the barren field. Well, when the sky was this dark and snowflakes fell from the sky it certainly looked like winter had come again.
Then, as if it had only been a dream she'd not quite woken up from, the snow stopped... The sky was still cloudy and the world was darker than usual but the snow had stopped. Shaking her head and smiling, Vieno trotted off to go look for some flowers. If the winter was coming back and planning to kill all the life the spring had just brought she planned to make the best of what she had. Yes, that included gobbling up the flowers before the frost killed them completely! (( Don't ask about the title. ;o; I was gonna say Do Your Ears Hang Low but... horses ears don't droop. ]: Woe is me. ))

The morning chill had already woken the older alicorn up from his slumber, in which then began the habitual ritual of the daily morning tending to beautiful locks of white hair, among his other assets. Dorian knew he was gorgeous, nothing nor no one had to tell him that, though he absolutely adored having this fact reconfirmed by others around him. But beauty, although it came to him naturally (unlike so many others, of course!) had to be perfected. It would have been a frightful mess had he not had his teal wings at his side to assist in the primping and fluffing, that was for certain!
Silver hooves finally found themselves trotting away from the lakeside, the stallion finally appeased with his looks long enough to tear himself away from his own reflection. The day shouldn't be wasted alone and quiet! No, it wouldn't do at all. He needed company... he needed attention. He would have to seek it out, as it had yet to find him for the day. And oh what a day it was becoming already! The bright sun no longer shined in the sky among the white puffy clouds, but instead was hidden away among the gloomy gray patches of sky high above. No doubt was it going to rain, or worse, snow, and Dorian would NOT allow himself to be stuck in the middle of a rainstorm once more. The last time he wound up a victim to the weather, his hair had suffered terrible dampness and an uncomfortable feeling that lasted for what had seemed like forever. It was one thing to bathe intentionally, as he enjoyed the soothing calm waters of certain rivers scattered across the land, but to be drenched in showers without his permission? No no no, it simply wouldn't do, and he wouldn't allow the tricky rain spirits to muss up HIS hair this time, no sir.
Letting out a low snort, his trot increased its pace as teal eyes noticed the forming rainclouds. Wait... or was that snow drifting down from them? Either way, he wasn't going to have any of THAT! No, he was determined to head over to that small forest of trees a ways off, before he'd lose his beautiful hair style to the dreadful snow.

Her plan to go destroy the flowers seemed to be forgotten as Vieno started wandering. In the distance she saw what looked to be a mare but she had to squint to really see. It would seem they had wings and a horn! She'd heard of that, now that she had acquired some new friends, alicorns, wasn't that what they were called? Either way, the mare was excited, she was going to get to meet yet another Soquili!
Her first thoughts were, well how I do approach them? In most of her recent encounters the other party wasn't walking away from her... No, most of the time they stumbled into each other! So, instead of walking toward the stranger, Vieno stood still, completely and totally stumped. She wouldn't have called herself shy, no, not exactly... but she did have little experience with introducing herself. After much debating, the mare decided that waiting like a sitting duck wasn't going to get her anywhere. That thought in mind, she picked up her feathery feet and trotted over to the stranger.
Getting closer, she realized that what she had thought was a mare was actually a stallion... Mentally kicking herself, Vieno realized she'd learned a valuable lesson today, not to judge one by their hairstyle or appearance! That made her wonder if she could have been mistaken for a stallion from a ways away. That made her giggle quietly, it wouldn't have bothered her much if someone thought she was a boy. On the other hand... she didn't want to upset this new stranger so she figured it best not to mention her mix up.
By now her mind had run off without her, she was wondering if there really were Soquili out there that often got mistaken for the opposite sex. How confusing and frustrating would that be? She then smiled to herself, knowing that things like that were always going to happen and really caused no harm to anybody.

Silver eyebrows rose as an unfamiliar tan and white figure drew closer to him. It would have brought upon a simply frightful mess had he not been paying attention to where he'd been going, as this stranger seemed intent upon breaking him of his straight path towards the sheltering forests. Did this young creature not realize how horrible the weather could get? But then again, she couldn't have been TOO terribly young, as Dorian refused to believe himself to be growing old, but she seemed fair and young enough to be of age as his little sister, Daphne, was. Which, of course, was acceptable in his eyes, as Dorian failed to see a large age difference between himself and his younger siblings.
His braided tail swung from side to side as his head remained high, and his pace slowed down as he drew closer to the young mare. Her hair was mussed, no doubt from sleeping on it, but aside from the forgivable hairstyle, she was a natural beauty, in her coloring and shape. She wasn't too large, but wasn't overly petite, either. Her colors fell more on the bland side (as he preferred vivacious colors, such as teal, himself), but they worked quite well with her innocent looking poise and expression.
Except for that giggle.
He hadn't cracked a joke, or made a humorous comment... which meant this mare had either lost her senses before they crossed paths, or else she was giggling at him, which was simply intolerable.
"Dorian," he quickly introduced himself, tipping his horn in greeting towards the beauty, his teal eyes betraying his attention back up towards the storm clouds. "And, may I ask, dear, what you find to be so funny?"

He was quick to start a conversation and this surprised her, causing her to blink for a moment before smiling and nodding. "Vieno, pleased to meet you!" she replied quickly and sweetly before he had a chance to ask his question. When he did so she flushed slightly and looked down at the ground, completely embarrassed, "I... well, I'm sorry if it was strange or wrong or something... I'm just... happy, is all," the mare lied somewhat, knowing she'd been picturing herself as a stallion. Quick to change the subject, Vieno tilted her head off to the side, still smiling and questioned, "You don't laugh when you're happy?"
This wasn't going well, the poor stallion probably thought she was an insane, nutcase who just escaped from candy mountain. Well, he probably wouldn't think that illy of her, he certainly seemed nice... Too bad she really was insane and completely spacey, how did she even manage to make friends anymore? Another mystery of life, she'd decided.
It no longer looked as if it was going to dump a bunch of harsh weather upon them but Vieno wasn't quite so sure. Wouldn't retreating to the trees have been a little smarter than standing out in the open? Even the trees couldn't protect you from everything but they were a little better than nothing... This thought made the mare look to the stallion and once again, she smiled. Taking a closer look she realized he had the nicest hair she'd ever seen, well... maybe not the nicest but it was up there. Dante had beautiful hair as well and she was cursed with... her mop of tangles and mats...
Unable to help herself, out of nowhere she randomly blurted, "You have beautiful hair, I've never seen anything quite like it!"

(( dude, major points for Candy Mountain reference <3 ))
"Vieno," he echoed, rolling the name across his tongue, enjoying the sound of his own voice as he repeated the name. It was most definitely an interesting name, but not of the bad sort. No, it was intriguing, and Dorian would be biased of it henceforth, he knew, for he loved the way it sounded coming from his own lips.
His teal eyes gleamed, and a smile crept upon his mouth as he listened to her falter through an answer he was entirely too sure was quickly created to shield him from her true thoughts. Ah, well, ladies would always keep their secrets, and he would have to be content with that, he supposed. One teal wing rose out absentmindedly and began untangling the clumps of hair stuck together among her beautiful blonde waves, and he tsk'd under his breath at the potential that was going to waste that very instant.
"Laughter could be a sign of happiness, I won't argue," he finally responded, obviously more intent on focusing now on her mane than the actual conversation going on, "But I find it to be more of a form of entertainment, thus, my questioning your giggling, as I failed to find anything entertaining concerning my presence, dear Vieno."
Ah, that name again. He knew he would never tire of saying that name, just as he never tired of saying his own. The grin upon his lips grew even wider at her compliment, and the wing retreated from fussing with her mane to begin primping his own in appreciation.
"One must take especially good care of one's hair, for the end result to be beautiful," he beamed, gently yanking and tugging until he was once again satisfied with his own hairstyle, before returning back to hers. "You, Vieno, have a vast potential of having the same hair, if only you'd take better care of it."
His words were gentle, but the soft reprimand was there. How in the world mares went about their business without a care in the world for their appearance boggled Dorian's mind. Such soft, delicate strands, all tangled and matted up, when they could be brushed and smooth and oooh so beautiful!
Shaking his head, he then realized she lacked the same necessary wings he possessed to aid in primping himself. The poor dear. She must lead a dreadful life, being unable to take care of her looks as he did. But, from the appearance of things, she seemed relatively happy. Perhaps all was not lost, if her mood remained high and delightful?
His eyes rose once more to notice the clouds darkening, and forming in numbers above them. "I think it would be wise, Vieno," he paused, taking a momentary pleasure in once again saying her name, "If you and I both took this opportunity to return to the protection of the trees? I don't know about you, but I greatly prefer staying out of bad weather."

The mare blinked as the stallion repeated her name, surprised even further as he lifted a wing to mess with her hair. She didn't object, feeling that may have been rude and instead stood quite still, letting the stallion untangle her mane. Feeling a bit self conscious when he made tsking sounds, the mare flushed, hoping he didn't find her uninteresting, plain or even disgusting... Sadly, it was the mare's biggest downfall, her low self-esteem and horrible ideas about her own self image. She often reminded herself that not everybody could be beautiful, but secretly she still wished that she was.
"Oh, you're very entertaining," the mare stumbled over her words, she too paying more attention to the stallion playing with her mane. Her mind was jumbled and she couldn't quite figure out how to reply. Her response hadn't been completely horrible so she left it like that, not wanting to seem too, too, flustered.
The mare smiled as his wing went up to his own hair and she watched in admiration as he primped and prettied himself up. She'd never before watched anyone fix their own mane to their satisfaction. It was a new experience she certainly enjoyed, new experiences were never to be frowned upon regardless! As he revealed the secrets to having a beautiful mane and told her she could too have one she frowned slightly. Vieno didn't have wings of any sort and she highly doubted she could use her hooves or teeth to fix her hairstyle... so sadly, it was out of the question.
"Well, it would be a little harder for me to fix my mane," she smiled and nodded, "I thank you for helping me out though!" She thought it'd been very nice of Dorian to help her with her mane. Fixing it on her own seemed to be impossible so a little aid from friends was always appreciated.
"You're very wise, Dorian," Vieno giggled as she started off in the direction of the trees, shelter. "I don't think it'd be very nice if we were both caught in miserable weather either, so, let's go take cover," she said softly. Flurries were one thing, but you couldn't always tell what the weather was going to be... Better safe than sorry! Protection from the weather that was about to sneak up on them seemed to be in order.
