Not really sure how to title it, but my question is this: I've been trying to play some AC/DC licks as of late, but i've noticed that Angus has a certain extra kick to his sound. Did he use an effects pedal of some type, and if so does anybody know what it (they?) was? (Were?)

How do you mean "Extra kick"? Perhaps it's from his exact type of guitar and amp combo? Could it be something to do with the rythem guitaring played by Malcome on tracks backing his lead?

I'm not really sure how to explain it. Just that like gritty overdrive sound like on the intro for Back in Black. What kind of amp did he use?

Marshall JMP 100Watt Master Volume Head
Marshall 1960A Slant Cabinet / 4x12
Marshall 1960B Straight Cabinet / 4x12

he didn't use any stomp boxes.
Basicall his Standard SG through the amp running half volume.

Ouch, that's kind of out of my price range. Oh well.

The Line6 Idea may not be that bad, they do have A LOT of sound profiles for various songs of his, among many other bands, and it is WAY cheaper than a vintage marshall amp and stack, though I would still recommend an SG standard for the full tone. biggrin

Unfortunately that's out of my price range also. I do have an Epi though.

your epiphone and a vox valvetronix combo might help you get an AC/DC type tone, you could upgrade your pickups to some Gibson Burst Buckers or the Angus Young signature humbuckers

I was planning on getting some Burst buckers once I got some money saved up. (Argh... the expense of guitars, cars, and a girlfriend kills me on a highschool paycheck.)
Thanks for the suggestion though. I wasn't even aware that they had Angus sig. pickups.
