-If lead is male, either effeminate and introverted with brooding at maximum and confidence at ZERO or loud and bratty. In short, a virgin. If lead is female, either busty and shy or moderately endowed/flat and loud. In short, a virgin.

-Do research (call it "research" but really you're just skimming through google and wikipedia results) on spiritual systems from other cultures/religions and formulate an unnecessarily overelaborate "chi" system that gives insane powers to irresponsible, angst-filled teenagers.

-Make sure to have a strong, silent-type character (usually an older male) with a deep voice as a supporting character. If you opt for a female, make sure she's busty and about 30 years of age or older (if she's human at all).

-Make sure all battles go like this: main character with certain level of power fights another dude, gets his a** beat, and in the process unleashes some latent ability. Giving the character time to train between battles is optional. Actually, not really. Each battle thereafter has to have exponentially more energy beams, auras, etc. than the last battle. Bonus points if you go all out. In every battle.

-Characters only change outfits when they reach "the next level."

-End the series with the character's death or retirement. For the sequel, make sure the character comes out of retirement. Or if he's dead, make sure he has offspring to carry on his legacy. Battles hereafter should be even more balls to the wall than in the previous series. Tip: don't think in terms of world destruction. Go onto galactic or even universal destruction.
