Okay, so I live in California and I was in history class at my high school. Some students came in and said another teacher was selling candy as a fundraiser and needed help. My history teacher does a lot for the school, so they thought he might be able to help. My history teacher responded by saying that he'd love to help, but it is against California state law to sell candy or soda on school grounds. I looked it up, and it's true.

WHY?! scream

Were gonna spend money on soda and candy anyway, might as well have it go to the schools.

Okay, two questions.

1: How stupid is this law?
2: Does anybody else have a stupid law to share?

Okay, I thought of another stupid law. In Cambell it is against the law to set off a nuclear device within city limits. The penalty: a $500 fine. stare

WtF? When I was in high school almost every club &/or department sold candy/cookies for fund-raising. Drama sold cookies, Art/Music has actually sold candy, and Drill Team sold candy AND cookies.
To reiterate, WtF?!

Who would get the $500? Because I don't think Dead People are capable of gaining and spending money.

Y'know, these are those laws that us non-Americans laugh at and say "only in America". razz

Not so much the first one though. There's been a huge push for getting junk food out of schools in New Zealand too. In fact, this just yesterday: Primary school bans birthday cakes.

In Alaska it's illegal to push a moose out of a helicopter while it's in flight. For the Alaskans to think this is a nessesary law somebody had to have tried this. THAT is the scary part.

http://www.totalcapitol.com/?bill_id=6870

The original form of this bill would have made the challenge period for a tax or fee hike that is in violation of Prop 13 and other laws a single small period of I think 120 days. It was watered down to allow for more flexibility but this is just one example of a law that we had to challenge last year.

Unfortunately I could come up with dozens more, and that's just from one session in Sacto.

Silly stupid law: It is illegal in Riverside CA to kiss your partner without having first freshened with carbonized rose water... which I have been entirely unable to procure here in Riverside!! I'm taking the Fifth on what we may or may not do as a married couple.... It's obviously a relic law from the Victorian era... which also contains laws, I am told, regulating the growing of opium in Riverside.... yep, that's what they used to grow before citrus-mania took hold.
