Koi knew something was up with her dark child-Mawu. She didn't blame her half the time-she seemed very depressed and low at times. It was the darkness in her. Mawu suffered-because out of all Koi's children-except for Mawu's brother-had some color resemblance to their parents in some way. The two were dark as can be.
Koi understood. She herself felt a bit of despare at seeing a female-so beautiful in life and love... to be shunned to the bottom. She was truely, the lowest ranking female in the pride as of now. Koi knew she should not look down or lowly upon her-she was her child and a pride member was a pride member. Koi understood her childs grief.
But... Lately... Mawu had been a bit more cheerful. Happy a few times. Koi had not seen her child smile in so long-it was a joy to look upon. Mawu had even taken to playing a bit with her siblings. Koi was overjoyed. And now. Her child was laying in the sun-a smile upon her face.
This was the time that Koi thought best to discuss some things with her.
"Hello My Dear child."

Mawu was feeling so much better of late. She was cheerful and felt great-the sun was so lovely these days and playing with her siblings was a treat. She couldn't believe how her attitude had changed-she used to hate playing with them. She was tired now, she had been playing by herself in a small stream... and now as stretched out with her paws crossed. It was a good day.
Since she had met her god friend-her attitude on things changed greatly. Not only did she have a lifes mission now... but it would someday bring great honor to her mother and father. She'd find a way... somehow... to bring her family great honor and to prove that-even if she was the lowest of ranking.. she could do great things.
she heard her mothers sweet voice and she perked up-smiling greatly. "Mother... Good evening."

Koi slunk over to her child and bent low, giving her a kiss upon her head. What a lovely child... so inky black... it was a shame... but the gods chose the colors for her children... and she accepted that. She gazed into the eyes of herself, a smile crossing her face. What a deligtful child she was becoming.
"My my... you sure seem awful happy lately Mawu. What happened to change your attitude my child.. I thought I'd never see you smile" She said, laying down so she could begin to groom the midnight child of hers. "It is a great gift to be able to smile Mawu... and I am glad you are using this gift now."

Mawu gazed up at her mother-so bright and beautiful. Mawu only wished she could be as bright and colorful... stunning as her mother was. But.. she had been blessed with her mothers eyes. She reached up with her paws and cleaned the tip of her mothers nose-a small pur of happiness escaping her mouth. She loved her mother.
"I suppose... It was when I met someone and they changed my idea's on life... because I was so sad mother... that I would never bring honor to my family... but... he said something to me that-made my days brighter..." She said, a smile crossing her face. She did not want to tell her mother of the 'friend' she had made... she wasn't sure about other gods and their domains being welcomed openly into the pride.

Koi gazed down at her child and smiled. She brought her front paws together around Mawu and pulled her into her chest. She then rested her head upon her childs back, looking at her out of the corner of her eye. A friend huh? Perhaps another pride member. There was that Nadra'Zuri... she was of the same rank-perhaps they had had a chat... wouldn't that be a start at becoming one with her rank.
"Really? What did they change that was of your mindset my darling?" She asked, looking down at her daughter with intrest. She wouldn't pry at who was the new friend-but she thanked in her mind-for helping her child become more adept for allowing happiness into her life.

Mawu gazed up at her Mother with a now sheepish grin. How was she going to tell her mother-that she intended to leave the pride soon. She looked down, looking a bit flusteredly at her feet. "well... Erm" She muttered, not sure how to say it. She didn't want her mother to freak out about it... thats the last thing she needed. She looked up slowly at her mother.
She loved her family and her pride-but she felt as though... she did not belong here.. She didn't want to stay here and just live on empty. Even if she took a male in as her own-wouldn't they regret being her partner.. she would no doubt bring forth children that were dark as the night sky. "I... I can't bring honor to my family here in the pride mom... I'm leaving... sometime... but I am going to leave the pride and find another way to bring honor to my family." She said...

Koi gazed at her daughter-as the words fell upon her ears. Leave? Already, at this young of age... Mawu was intent on leaving. At first, Koi could feel hotness rise to her face... as if she was angry... and she was for a moment. "What?" She asked, her voice showing hint of distress. Her child-so young in life-already was planning to leave? Why? What would bring a child-so young-so tender- to thoughts of a life without her family?
Then... then an image of Mawu... grandmother to these children and mother to Liza... came across her mind. She too had wandered from the pride... and had a wonderful son... one that was now Koi's mate. Her face softened. Her child-was following the past of her grandmother. A smile formed on Koi's face....
An ultimate Honor... to be taking the same pawprints a family member once had as well. "Well... Then you will be journeying with your grandmothers heart upon your shoulder... for she also left the pride long ago-and found a mate... and gave birth to your father..."

Mawu felt her mother anger stir around her. Oh no... now she did it. Her mother was furious... she could see it in her eyes. She cowered slightly in her mothers 'lap'... her purple eyes squeezing shut as she did so. Oh... here it was coming... a rebuking indeed.
"Well... Then you will be journeying with your grandmothers heart upon your shoulder"
She opened her eyes and stared up at her mother with wonder. She had not heard that much information about her grandmother... she knew she had been named after her... but to be following her path. "Really? She did that? Wow."
She looked down at her paws and then up to her mother with a smile. "So... I will be carrying on something my grandmother did before me?"

Koi smiled down at her daughters excitement. It was a honor-to carry on something that a relative did when they were alive. Koi smiled wider and lowered her head, nuzzling her daugther. Though there was a lot she could not tell her daughter about her grandmother-she was certain of one who could tell her something.
"How about you visit your father for a while... he knows more about her than I do.. and I am sure he'd love to tell you more about your lineage." She said, her purple eyes alight. She nuzzled against the warmth that was her child. Such a lovely child-and so smart.
"You are very lucky... to be named after her and to have the a path so close to her own-is a mighty honor to behold..." She said, thanking again whom ever it had been that had helped change Mawu's opinoin.

Mawu could feel her heart flutter at her mothers words. She was lucky to be like this. She felt a huge toothy smile cross her face. Oh... she could bring her family honor.. starting with her deceased grandmother. She felt her eyes welm with tears but held them back. "Oh Mom."
She rubbed her paws against her eyes for a moment. She could do this-he was right... she could bring her family honor. She'd do it alone if she had too... but that God said he'd help if she wished... perhaps she'd call upon him when the time came.
"Of course Mother... I'll visit with Father and learn so much about Grandma Mawu... I want to honor her just like I want to honor you!" She said, and with that she stood, begining to pad her way to where her father was. She was thrilled.
"I'll see you later Mother!"

Koi was pleased at her daughters reaction to her words. Perhaps... this was Mawu's life missino... to honor the dead. Perhaps... she'd even meet her grandmother reserected and not know it. "Yes my child...... I will see you soon." She said, watching her happy child leave her.
Even now, in these days of wonder-Koi could not help but recall how she had been burdened with the inability to give birth to children... and now... here they were... alive and thriving... already living lives of their own. Making friends and making their destinys.
"May the Goddess look upon you with Pride."
