Go awaaay mouse Dx NUUUU!!!

"Can I get this?"

"No..."

"Can I geeet THIS?"

"No..."

"Can I get these?"

"... I wouldn' le' ya ge' i' las' week... why would I le' ya ge' i' now?"

Sevilin's head bowed and his blue eyes grew into giant guilt traps as his cherry-red lips pursed in a frown. "I... I dunno... I thought maybe because you loved me..."

"Oh my God, is no' gonna work this time. I'mma gettin' immune to yer whinin'..."

The little fairy's eyes narrowed and he begrudgingly put the box back and instead yoinked a plastic bag. "Theen can I get a bag of candy instead?"

"... A small bag." We`rika finally relented and watched the Frei float down the aisle, picking out his favorite candies: saltwater taffy and blue raspberry dolphin and shark gummies. Straightening his short crumpled list of groceries, he checked off milk and beer. He needed to pick out TV dinners and a few boxes of instant macaroni and cheese and soups.

Puffing out a breath of air, he moved to the next aisle and into the freezer department. He stood staring at the foggy windows, ears lowered and eyes watching the box pictures rather than the writing, at the assortment of basically the same food just reshaped and repackage dozens of times. Yummy yummy. He grabbed a few boxes of hot pockets, three hungry man dinners and did his best to stay away from the dessert freezers a few steps away.

"Hookay..." To the canned aisle! He need to get his Chunky soups. He made sure Sevilin was still busying himself and peeked around the next aisle. "Sev'lin!"

The little Frei froze, his chubby cheeks betraying his innocent look. He quickly swallowed away the evidence and floated over to We`rika slowly.

"Yeah, ya kinda hafta BUY th'candy before ya can ea' i'... Jesus, yer stayin' with me from now on..." Treating his Raevan like a little child, he grabbed his little hand and escorted him to the canned aisle. God, he hated grocery shopping. It was bad enough he could barely pay for any good food, the fact he was half normal toting around half a child with wings started to wear on a person. Especially when everyone HAD to ******** stare. So many kids he just wanted to kick in the face to stop them from gaping at Sevilin. He usually settled for sticking his tongue out at the brats until their parents pulled them along.

He looked down at Sevilin who was pleasantly running his hand over ever can and item. He met his guardian's stare and smiled.

"Zara, get that imagination under control and pick out a cereal."

The man didn't say the words with thinly veiled patience or annoyance, just a simple dismissal that the girl was sorely getting used to. Jahzara pouted up at her father, small round ears flattening against her spotted hair. "But I saw them dad! A floating fish and an elf!"

Brad turned his indigo gaze to his daughter with a quirk of his lips. "You did not."

"I did soooo!"

The older man sighed, shaking his shaggy head. After a moment of silence, he inquired, "And what, exactly, do you want me to do about this floating fish and elf?"

Jahzara pursed her lips, candy tangerine eyes narrowing in the slightest. Not only did her father routinely disbelieve her, but he always had a way of pinning any arguement down with his insufferable logic. "I just wanted you to see them," she sulked indignantly.

A sound between a grunt and a sigh escaped him. "Is that so." After a moment of staring intently at a cereal box, he gave a small shrug of his bare shoulders and motioned to the cereal aisle. "Pick a cereal and go find them, but don't be rude. I'll come after I pick up some meat."

Despite his way of grinding her fun into the ground, he was usually prone to giving into the girl, and she knew it; Jahzara gave a squeal of delight and wrapped her arms around Brad's tank-top clad torso, snagging some random cereal off the shelf and pushing it into his hands before taking off down the aisle and out of sight.

He watched his daughter disappear in a flurry of tri-colored swirls on her dress, giving his head a little shake once more. He really had to learn to be more stern with her...but for now, he'd enjoy the fact that she hadn't paid attention to the food she'd picked and that she would have to eat it. Two could play at childish games!

Jahzara, not at all thinking of her breakfast fate, browsed the long aisles quickly with her keen eyes, making sure not to run and draw attention to herself...at least, anymore than a half girl, half cheetah mix could not manage to draw. Her tail curled behind her in contentment, humming softly to herself until she found the objects of her attentions, browsing canned goods.

With all the tact of her age, the girl did a little skip down the aisle and stared up at We`rika quite blatantly. Her mouth parted in a small 'o,' she quickly grinned and showed off her canine-esque teeth. "Hi! Your ears are cool!" she informed the shaman, leaning to the side to give his charge a little wave of acknowledgement.

"... Sev'lin..." We`rika paused, waiting for customers to leave the aisle before he continued. He lifted up a can and showed it to the floating sea fairy. "Whas in this one?"

"Uhmmm..." Drifting closer, Sevilin hummed as he read the label. "That one has... cheeken in it..."

"Ew," He wrinkled his nose and put it back in line, brown eyes drifting from picture to picture endlessly.

"What are you looking for?"

"Beef..." Or as real as it got to beef.

"Uhmm... weelll..." Sevilin bullied his way in front of We`rika. "This one has beef in it! And uhmm barley and vegetables..." Picking it up, he turned to his guardian and showed him the picture. It didn't embarrass Sevilin that the man could barely read, not that he really had the capacity to be embarrassed quite yet. But he knew it unnerved We`rika tremendously and went to great lengths to make sure no one else found out, stranger or friend.

"Yeah thas fine. Pu' a uhmm... pu' ... uhmm...." We`rika's thought process was interrupted by a little girl hopping her way towards him. His brow raised as she stood directly in front of him and stared at her. He was pretty used to some kids thinking it was "cool" to have huge ratty ears, but not one that was... special herself. "... Uhh thanks. I... like yer....................... tail..." His own lopsided grin was riddled with his own sharp canines.

"Hi!" Sevilin greeted with his usual cheerfulness, floating closer to the little girl. "I'm Sevilin, what's your name?"

We`rika disappeared into the background, letting Sevilin take over the stilted conversation and tried matching up his can picture to others in a life or death memory game. He needed his meeeat! He was a growing boy. This looked close enough. He piled them into the cart, a sharp tang sounding as metal hit metal. "Where's yer mommy, lil girl?" So help him if she was lost!

Jahzara giggled, the aforementioned tail swooping back and forth in lazy arcs. Her slitted gaze flitted towards the flying fish that introduced himself as Sevilin, extending her mostly-human hand in greeting. "Hi Sevilin!" the girl tried out the name, really taking in the appearance of the floating boy. We`rika was momentarily forgotten in favor of the blue being in front of her. "Wow, you're really cool!" Obviously the girl was still working on her vocabulary. 'Cool' was her word of the week. "Are you flying? Your hair is so pretty!"

She was all smiles and admiration, looking over Sevilin's wings and dainty features with intruige. Sure, he was different, but he wasn't like her...and that made him even cooler! "Oh, I--" she started to introduce herself, but was distracted as the metal cans clanged loudly in the basket. Her tail bristled momentarily, ears twitching before she cocked her head to the side.

"Mom?" she inquired quizically. Tsk, this man obviously didn't know very much! She was born without a mother...or a father, if one wanted to be technical, but the girl wasn't exactly up to par with such thoughts just yet. "Don't have one, but dad is near by." As if to prove her point, she glanced up and down the aisle, wondering what was taking him so long to grab the meat. No doubt he was being finicky about it, but she wouldn't admit that his delay was likely on her even more finicky behalf.

Sevilin floated quietly as he basked in the little girl's onslaught of compliments. His sweet smile grew big and impish. "Thank you!" He beat his delicate translucent wings ostentatiously and brushed his long blue hair back at its mention.

We`rika just rolled his eyes. Well, they'd become lifelong friends if the girl kept up all this fawning. There was nothing Sevilin liked better than being completely worshiped. Even above and beyond Sprinkles AND saltwater taffy. He would have to punch a hole in that bulging ego soon before Sevilin took him over as well.

"Does yer... daddy know yer wanderin' around by yerself?"

"Oh We`rika she's fine!" Sevilin glowered at the man who was trying to ruin all his fun. He never got to meet many people and he wouldn't let We`rika destroy this! "What's your name? HEY! Can I touch your tail..." The little Frei was following the slow pendulum movement of the thick spotted appendage. He wanted a tail! Why didn't he have tail? Maybe We`rika could get him one. Floating around, he poked the top of her tail, watching it recoil and continue its regular path.

The girl was feeling fairly benevolent herself, seeing as neither of the two were regarding her as strange. Not that such things bothered the head-strong child, but admiration was always a plus. Her tail ceased its lazy eight figures, extending it with a slight curl to the Sevilin. "Sure!"

To the rest of the Raevan's statement, she beamed brightly, "I'm fine. Dad knows I went to find you guys. He thinks I have a 'wild imagination!'" The cheetah spotted girl raised her hands and waggled her fingers, rolling her eyes as if the term was some big deal. She was too young to take it as a compliment, and too old to let it roll of her shoulders. "He didn't believe me, but he will now! I'm--"

"If you told me you saw We`rika, I would have believed anything you said, Jahzara," Brad's bemused voice lofted over the three. He approached from behind the shaman, only seeing the back of the Raevan but the full shine of his daughter's gleeful and proud smile. "An elf and a fish, huh?" He paused by the construction worker, shifting the cuts of wrapped meat into his right hand, which was still curled around the handles of a small red basket filled with goods.

The triumph Jahzara felt was quickly diminishing, but swiftly replaced with awe. "You know them?"

Deciding against shaking hands and slinging his free arm over We`rika's shoulders instead, the Brad lowered his voice, emphasizing the words as though they were a secret, "I work with this one."

Jahzara gaped for a moment. Her father WORKED with the elf? How cool was her dad really?? The cat girl giggled and wrapped her arms around the part of Sevilin's midsection that did exist, exclaiming joyously, "Our dads WORK together, we're practically family!"

Brad smiled knowingly, casting a briefly apologetic glance to the man in his grasp. It was for the benefit of their children, so surely he'd understand. ...right? His eyes shifted to the floating boy for a moment; so this was the charge his sister and the shaman had such a row over. It was no wonder she was sour that she couldn't see him anymore.

"Eeee!" Sevilin squealed like a little kid and hugged the wriggling tail tight to his chest. It was so soft and warm, and he could feel the strong muscles switch and writhe under the thick hide. He let his fingers investigate the dense fur, finding downy-like hairs below the bristly surface, and brushed the long appendage as it curled around his hand. The little Frei eventually let it go and watched it bob back and forth with its owner.

Find us? The girl's strange story made the Huichol's ears pull back against his skull. But it was harmless chatter as he turned to see Brad of all people! coming towards him. It was quite the small world today. We`rika stiffened awkwardly as his friend? grabbed him around the shoulders. His eyes narrowed as he looked beside him and all he could see was the strong outline of his collarbone. God, he hated tall people with a ******** passion. "An elf...?" Well, hell he got the fish joke. Poor Sevilin's stomach was probably knotting at the term. But an elf? She didn't mean those gay short things with long ea--? Ugh that a was low blow, little girl.

Sevilin immediately followed suit and hugged the cat girl tight. "I ge' ta have a sister!!" A strong influence from his guardian always came out when he was excited, but he was too happy to correct himself as he rested his chin on Jahzara's spotted crown and squeezed her tight.

We`rika looked up at Brad and just laughed. Hell, the kids were actually helping his cause so he wasn't going to step in.

"Hey uhmm..." Sevilin pause din his merry-making and looked down at the girl. "What's your name?"

"Thas..." We`rika had decided to pipe in and impress her dad to show he was actually paying attention that afternoon and not just ogling him like a piece of meat. s**t, what was her name?! "ehm Zara, righ'?"

"Zara? That's a pretty name! You should sooo come over to our house!!"

"Eh well... Is prolly a lil la'e fer tha' today... Maybe another time, Sev'lin..." Not that he wouldn't love for Brad to come into his territory (and Zara too), but he didn't want to be so rude as just invite themselves over when Brad and his daughter could have plans... or whatever s**t people did. And of course, the big pleading blue eyes began to grow big and suck the resistance right out of him. Ugh.

Brad lifted a dark brow at We`rika, smiling, saying nothing.

"My real name is Jahzara," the cheetah-spotted girl announced importantly. "But I like being called Zara, so that's good too!" She grinned toothily at the Raevan as he hugged her back, a low rumble starting in her throat, the tell-tale sign of an impending purr.

Her father chuckled. "It's your full name, Zara, not your real name," he corrected her kindly. Brad carefully removed his arm, still smiling good naturedly. "Maybe we can do that one day when you're not so busy? That'd be nice. You guys can always come over and visit us too, if you don't mind being kinda high up."

"Ss my namerrrr, dad," Jahzara protested, but it was easily lost as her purrs started. It'd been a while since the cat-girl had lost her battle to control her loud and sometimes embarrassing purrs, but it was just too cool to meet these two and find out her dad knew them! AND Sevilin liked her! She was too happy to contain herself.

A quiet sigh escaped the taller man. "Someone's excited," he commented dryly, offering a half-cocked smile at his daughter. To Sevilin, he gave a little wave, introducing himself, "I'm her father, Brad. Nice to meet my son-in-law." To say he was amused by the whole 'related' conversation was an understatement.

Under his breath, he murmured quietly enough that only We`rika could hear, "I guess this means I owe you a few more lunch dates, huh?"

We`rika snorted obnoxiously and looked up at Brad, unable to stop an impish smile spreading from ear to ear. High up? He prayed Brad was joking or he didn't know if he could be friends with him anymore. "Ohh I dunno I'mma pretty afraid of heigh's, thankfully my job keeps me low on the ground..."

"Ohh how do you do that with your voice?!? Jahzzzara... Jah-Jahzz... That's hard!" Laughing like a siren, Sevilin placed his small palms on her pretty face and smooshed her cheeks gently. "You have to show me hoooow...!"

The Huichols' long ears fluttered madly at Brad's low voice. "Mmhmm yes! Or I'lla trade ya for a dinner instead..." He couldn't resist and, moving away from Brad, he smacked his friend in the chest and stood beside Sevilin. "Well I'mma glad ya two make such a cu'e couple, bu' I think we need ta leave Sev'lin and le' Brad and Jahzara finish their rounds..."

"Noo!!" The little sea fairy squealed and held Zara tighter, glowering at his guardian. "Let me stay with Zarrra..."

"Ya can stay with her another time..."

"No, I never ge' to meet people! I wanna stay with her! Brad said he'd take me home!! Let me go home with Jahzara..."

"..." Ouch. We`rika's long ears fell in hurt, but he looked at Brad as if to apologize for his son's bratty behavior. "Actually.. he didn' say tha' exactly... Is rude ta jes invi'e yerself over.... I think... We'll do it another time okay?"

"Nooo!!"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:51 am

The man snorted at We`rika, "I was referring to your son--" He was cut off by the smack to the chest, which made him utter a few seconds of startled laughter. Whether it was from the smack of the dinner suggestion, it was hard to tell.

"It'sa purrrr," Jahzara tried to explain through her rumbling throat. She started to giggle as her cheeks were pooched between Sevilin's cool hands, which sounded utterly silly with her purring. The cat-girl didn't help matters in the least, and was quite content to be held again as her captor protested leaving. Zara would have been happy to lend her voice to the protest, were it not for the fact that very little would be intelligible between her contented purr and giggles.

"I don't mind," Brad chuckled quietly, approaching the two that were locked so tightly. He would have been worried if Jahzara was a teenager, but now, thankfully, most boys just had cooties. Apparently Sevilin was an exception. "Zara," he said quietly.

The girl rumbled at him, candy tangerine eyes turning to her father although she remained as tightly wound against the Raevan as he was to her.

"Come on. We have hamburgers to grill, the meat will go bad if we wait."

Her round ears drooped. She loved her father's cooking, and it wasn't often he offered to do it. Dangit! Cornered by his insufferable logic again! "But..." her purrs started to subside, "...I want 'rrrika and Sevirrlin to come!"

Another sigh escaped Brad, but he was still smiling. "That's up to them, darling." Turning his indigo gaze to the shaman, he gave a nonchalant shrug. "I guess you're getting your dinner invitation a little sooner than expected, hmm?"

Oh, he was going to have to buy Sevilin another bag of candy for his performance. Jahzara too. Who knew this could have ever worked out so well. We`rika grinned victoriously and bent down to Jahzara's level. "I dunno abou' ya, bu' I'd never pass up some good grillin', especially if someone else is doin' th'work, eh?" We`rika patted the cat-girl on her soft crown, all the while trying to pry his own son off of her. Sevilin resisted with a whine and the Huichol stopped and stood up.

"Sev'lin... we have our own food ta ge' home....... How abou' this..." He looked over at Brad since this would pertain to him more than a couple of toddlers. "We go home and pu' away our stuff and go from there, eh? If they ain' ta tired and all tha' jazz..." He watched Sevilin, hoping he would relent. "Sev'lin... Yer no' gonna ge' a better offer... Or we could jes go home and go ta bed..."

The little Frei pursed his cherry-red lips in defiance, looking back at Jahzara and to We`rika. Finally, he unhinged himself from Zara and floated low to We`rika. "... Fine..." He sighed halfheartedly as he clung to his guardian.

"Is... tha' alrigh'?" He asked Brad, taking hold of Sevilin by the arms and hoisting him up into a hug. He always felt sooo bad not letting Sevilin have his way. He would be getting so much candy before the night was out.

Jahzara immediately picked up her purring again at We`rika's pat, eyes closing in contentment. If the elf agreed, then they could all go home, right? Sevilin wasn't so lucky, however, and the girl gave a half-hearted mewl of protest before releasing the floating boy. It didn't occur to her once that such a quick attachment was odd. She was odd and therefore it was all fair game!

At We`rika's request, she turned her best doe-like eyes onto her father, but it wasn't necessary. Brad draped his free hand on his daughter's head, smoothing some of her hair back into place. "It's fine by me," he shrugged and smiled faintly. "It'll give me time to prepare the food. And for Zara to clean the place."

The girl almost groaned, but, knowing that her father was giving in to her for a second time that day, stayed quiet. She wrapped her arms around his waist again, looking at Sevilin over her shoulder as though he were a million miles away. Jahzara was the perfect picture of pathetic, really.

Lifting his hand, the man yanked his wallet out of his back pocket, flipping it open and having to use his teeth to pull out a card. Holding it in his mouth, he flipped the leather fold shut and stuffed it in the basket, removing the card from his mouth and handing it to We`rika. "That's my address and cell. Don't hesitate to call if you can't find us, we're closer to the water than you'd think."

"Okay sounds grea'..." We`rika walked over to Brad and, juggling Sevilin to one side, he took the card gratefully and flipped it between his fingers idly and smiled. "Thanks! I'lla be sure ta abuse i'..." Though it was anyone's guess if he was joking or not. "Here, Sevvie, dun lose this..."

Little hands took it from the man and not sure exactly where he was going to put it, he tugged his halter forward and slipped it down his shirt, to We`rika's choking dismay. "What?"

"Uh!" Thankfully his dark complexion dissuaded blushing as all the blood rose to his face, seeing his son make such an unconsciously lewd act. Where do kids learn these things?! "Okay well thanks! We'lla see ya later, guys! Nice ta meet ya Zara!" Turning sharply, he darted back to his shopping cart and deposited his little hussy into the basket.

"What?!"

We`rika just glowered teasingly and pushed him towards the front registers.

"Bye Zzzzara!" Sevilin peeked out from the side and waved to his new best friend.

Brad's deep laughter at Sevilin's antics were partially surprised and a large part amused as We`rika quickly tried to make a getaway. He just shook his shaggy head, lifting his hand in parting, "We'll see you two later."

The cat girl lifted a hand from her father to wave back to Sevilin with exuberance, grinning like a fiend. "Byeee Sev'lin! Bye We`rika! Come by soooon!" Jahzara quickly returned to clinging status with her father, giggling with pleasure at all that had transpired. At a grocery store, no less!

"Suppose we better buy this stuff and head out, huh? We have some work to do." He stroked his daughter's spotted hair before walking towards the front of the store, Zara in tow.

We`rika parked Sevilin and cart in front of a clerk station, busy with a least four customers. "Stay right here and keep moving the shopping cart up okay?"

"Wait, where are you going?"

We`rika pivoted with a squeak of his boots and looked back at his ward. "I'mma jes be righ' back dun worry!" With that, the Huichol turned into an aisle and disappeared into the candy section. He pulled a little plastic bag from the roller and tried his best not to be overwhelmed by the selection of sugary goodness. He really had no idea what a cat girl liked, but... she was a kid and kids like anything packed with sugar so he couldn't go wrong really, right?

He grabbed a handful of chocolates, gummy worms, hard candies and saltwater taffies. Tying the bag off, he went back to the cart where Sevilin sat, clearly not pushing the cart up when the customers before him left. We`rika just tossed the second bag in and pushed it forward.

"Is that for me?"

"No... you have one already. This one is for Jahzara..." For reasons she would probably wouldn't understand nor should ever understand as far as he was concerned. He pushed the cart once more and greeted the clerk as he pulled Sevilin out of the shopping cart. His mountain of frozen miscellaneous rolled across the conveyor belt along with the candies and ignored the clerk's odd glances as he paid.

"a*****e..." We`rika muttered as he grabbed his sacks and left for home. But his insult held no heat as he was completely humming in excitement for later. Thank God he was off tomorrow.
