Quote: -Fuel for the love triangle debate: Nomura refers to Tifa as being many things, including a lover/sweetheart (in a romantic/sexual context; "koibito" is the Japanese word used here), and Nojima says that when he began writing the script for Advent Children, the first thing he was sure of being part of the setting is that Cloud and Tifa were together. That said, Nomura may have meant that Tifa's a lover in the same way people will say "I'm a lover, not a fighter," and Nojima may not have meant "together" in a romantic context. For the record, I think Tifa's got this won, but that's me personally. Let the war continue! Thanks IGN, for proving that the Ultimania does use romantic terms to describe Tifa. For reference: http://faqs.ign.com/articles/698/698416p1.htmlEDIT: Though it's from IGN's Ultimania translation, this information is actually from the reunion files. EDIT: I decided to change the thread's title since the subject was more specific.

Obviously a lot of this is indeed, the author's personal oppinion. Though that's not the part I'm concerned with. XP It's the translation, saying they use a word in a romantic/sexual context. XD And the idea that an important part of the setting is that Cloud and Tifa are together. Man, I should have just done some research when I first discovered this debate.

Unfortunately the "koibito" term has been a source of pretty bad debates. I remember Pink vehemently arguing about this term. (And since she takes Japanese, she does know.) Though, I don't remember what the argument was since it was quite a while ago.

Koibito, the actual word, is pretty damn straightforward in what it means. Also, minor note- Reunion files, not Ultimania. Still a prime source behind the scenes document, different label.

Oh, okay. The source I found it from was IGN's Ultimania translation, but I'll add that to the OP.

Koibito is supposed to have a sexual connotation right? I think Pink said that there was another definition to the word.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." Cleris fans made sure to clear this up by saying "They were talking about Tifa's character, so of course she would see herself as Cloud's "sweetheart" " Which is what Koibito means, right? Sweetheart?
Or am I wrong? X_x; I never got into the whole Koibito argument. I found it pointless.

Also, Koibito means lover/ sweetheart. If pink wishes to suggest that it means anything else, then she's going to have to fight a rather difficult battle, fighting established dictionaries, language instruction books, websites, etc.
I won't be holding my breath.

I won't be holding my breath."I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." Yes... because in Tifa's profile she is described as a sweetheart/lover, they assume it means that it's about her feelings only, and not how she affects Cloud. =ahem= That's strange... they ignore Aeris' profile in CC suggesting that her feelings for Zack do NOT relate to Cloud, and that she could NOT possibly like Zack through the course of FFVII. Even though it says it right there, in her profile.
Hmm. Strange. rofl

.............Seeing HERSELF as Cloud's sweetheart? What the hell?! I heard them talking about associating it with her character but going that far? Wow.....I'm just speechless.....Not only do they disregard the whole context but they friggin' just bash Tifa as some delusional, wishy-washy, clingy woman!

Ya, I don't know where people get the clingy thing from. I guess though if you glaze over all the parts in the game where he reveals his feelings to Tifa you may think her being open with him is clingy... I guess. *shrugs* When Cloud leaves forever she doesn't sit around, she trains and becomes strong enough to fight. And I highly doubt she twisted his arm to be a family with her and the kids. I mean, we know Cloud's a weakling, but I just wish there was some sort of evidence to show that Cloud's not truely happy. Where all we ever hear is how he's not worthy for Tifa cause she's too awesome, so he runs away... oh wait... am I talking about FFVII or AC? Who knows? XP Parallels people! Geez. He doesn't think he's worthy of his family because he's failed his friends. If he keeps opening up to them and being happy with them it'll hurt if he can't save them too. Now who sounds clingy? XP

I once had someone, not a shipper, simple a basher, try and use the line where they said she wasn't a clingy women to show that she was clingy.
It was odd.
In any case, the bit translated as 'dimensions of character' is in the original text, the kanji for 'standpoints', or colloquially 'roles in the world'. It's about what she is to other people. She's like a mother to Denzel and Marlene, she's an Ally in battle to AVALANCHE, And a lover to...
::begins overly dramatic show of thinking hard::
Sierra! Obviously! She and Sierra are cuckolding Cid! Because Tifa can't be seen as a lover by the man she views as the father figure in their little family, nosirree.

Of course not! *smacks Ryushikaze* Logic has no part in the LTD, you should now that by now. XP Bashers bother me. I mean, if you really hate a character, and they are obviously seem in a romantic relationship with a character you do like, so you decide to like them in a different pairing... wouldn't you be aware your views are merely biased and have no grounds? I'm giving the bashers way too much credit. XP Of course they wouldn't realize something logical like that. Since the only thing to back up the idea that she's a terrible person is that she loved Cloud before Aeris and, "OMG leave the dead girls boyfriend alone even though he told you in his mind that he cares about and wants you too." And then of course we have SE saying she has a heart of gold. But no, the bashers have some unknown right to make stuff up about her character and make up a pairing so they don't have to admit she's their fangirl obsession's love interest. XP
