Feo was relaxing out in the sun, lying on his back. It was a lazy day today, as the sun was bright and it was just too much work to go out and do anything else. He was happy to be in his own cave and not at home (even if it had been a while since he moved out) if purely for the fact it was quiet. No little cubs running all over him and bothering him in his nap.
He had one hind leg sticking up, twitching a bit when a fly would decide that it was a nice place to tickle him. He assumed that Jina was around, perhaps in the cave since the sun wasn't always kind to her dark coat.

Jina couldn't believe it. She had noticed the growing bulge in her stomach, but she wouldn't have imagined in a million years that she was harboring cubs. She lie in the cool shade of their den and continued to look down at her swollen belly. She had tried to hide it from Feo, thinking that she was just gaining weight from the amount of food they were eating from their hunts. She would have never guessed that she was eating for more than two. She placed her paw against her belly and felt one of the little ones move, making a large smile come across her maw and a laugh escape.
She wanted to tell Feo, but was afraid of what he might think. Even worse was what she thought his mother would think. After all, they hadn't even met and her son was about to have cubs.
She sighed and slowly got up, knowing that she would have to tell him before the cubs were born, she just didn't want it to be now.
Se slowly walked out of the cave, squinting her eyes as the sun blinded her for a moment. She saw Feo lying in the grass so peacefully and for a moment thought of turning back to the den, but she knew she couldn't. She walked up to his side with a smile on her face and carefully sat down next to him.

Feo could feel a brush of something next to him. It took a moment for the sleepy male to actually open his eyes. Noticing that it was his mate next to him was a pleseant surprise. He rolled over to face her, still lying on his side, looking up at her with his red eyes.
"Mmmm? Hi Jina," he said, nuzzling her foot since that was about all he could reach at the moment. He wasn't concerned, really. He was a bit unattentive with details, and hadn't noticed Jina's belly, nor her slightly nervous state. He was just happy that she was right there next to him.
"Nice day, isn't it? Sorry I wasn't in the cave with you, I just wanted to soak up a little sun," he said with a laugh. Yeah, he wanted to work on his 'tan', 'cause it felt good to melt under the sun.

She smiled lightly and and gave a nervous laugh, "Yeah, it is nice isn't it?" She replied and looked back down. She didn't know how she was going to tell him. Hey Feo, guess what, your a fahter. Hey Feo, I have a surprise for you. Feo, you know what would make this day even more beautiful?
It was hopeless. Everything sounded too, fake, too unreal.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "Feo, there's something you should know." She started, her heart beat pounding so hard she could have thought the whole savanna could hear it.

Feo wasn't a lost cause, at least! He noticed that Jina didn't look very good. Oh no, did she want to go back to her mother, and leave again? He got a little bit nervous with that thought, but told himself to just calm down, it might not be that at all.
He rolled onto his stomache, pulling himself up into a sitting position so he could sit right in front of her, facing her. He lowered his head down so he could try to peek up at her between his bangs.
"Are you alright, Jina? What is it?"

She nodded, small tears welling up in her eyes as she thought again about the miracle that they now bore. "I'm fine, but it's not me I'm worried about." She said as she looked back up to him and took his paw in hers, and rested it on her swollen belly.
"Feo, were going to be a real family." She started to weep, "Were going to have cubs."
She said as she laughed joyfully.

Feo sort of blankly just stared at Jina for a moment, his mind blank. What...what has she just said? It wasn't really seeming like something real.
His eyes still stared at her, but they only started to react when he saw her eyes grow wet with tears.
"Cubs? Like....cubs? Are you serious? Really?!" His voice was hushed, amazed and a bit stunned, still. His body was stiff, but it seemed like he was slowly, slowly starting to get his movements back.

She nodded, blinking back tears. "Feo, your going to be a Dad" she said and licked his cheek. Words were almost unreachable as they sat there with one another. She couldn't have asked for a better person to share this moment with

"I'm just....very surprised," he said, the words still slow to come out of his mouth. He offered her a nuzzle on her cheek in return, his joy obviously slowly starting to seep through.
"It's such a weird feeling," he said with a shy chuckle. "Now I'm going to be respeonsible for keeping more than just you happy! I just hope I can do an okay job..." He never had a father figure in his life. What was one like? He'd have to do his best on what a father was supposed to do, everything he had learned on observation. He was never jealous of others with fathers, but all of a sudden trying to be one was going to be interesting.

She nuzzled back, glad that he wasn't mad at her. "I know what you mean. I didn't know what to think when I found out." Jina placed her paw on top of his, "I'm sure you'll do fine. Truth was she was worried herself. She didn't know the first thing about being a mother. She only had vague memories of her mother when she was a cub, and nothing to go off of. She was truly afraid of giving birth. When she watched her mother, she seemed to be in so much pain, she wasn't sure if she would be able to go through that amount of pain.
She rubbed her face clean of the fresh tears that fell. They didn't seem to stop, "I'm sorry, I'm such a mess..."

Feo laughed, nibbling at his mate's ear. "What's with all the tears? They're not even hear yet! Save those for when they drive us so nuts we'll have to make my mother their babysitter while we let outselves catch our breathe. At least they have a large family to keep the occupied, no?"
He could understand why she would be scared, but he really didn't know the first thing about children and childbirth, what she'd go through. Feo just knew about annoying little sibilings. Hopefully they wouldn't climb all over him like his sister did (even though they probably would anyways!).
"We can do this, together." He licked her cheek, tasting the tang of her salty cheeks.

She nodded, and smiled back to him. She was glad that he was there with her. She didn't know if she would be able to get through this if he wasn't the one next to her.
She felt another one of their cubs kick and she laughed again, "Here feel." She said as she placed his paw on her belly, glad she was able to enjoy this moment with the one she loved.
