-Tategami Grounds- This is where the Tategami Clan resides. Due to tragic events in the past, even before the Black Spring events, very few of the Tategami are left on the island. The area is a small grassland surrounded by trees in the north east area from the village. There is a small creek that supplies the camp with fresh water that runs through the surrounding trees. Tategammi Karite and the lion Kore are the only current residence and the only things that even show that someone resides is a small tent made of deer skin, and inside is all the slavaged items that once belonged to the now deciced Tategami Shuga and Tategami Maya and their lion partners. Everything is very tribal along with all the trinkets, books, and drawings, many left behind from Tategami Shuga.

While her eyes remained closed, the brawny limbs of the Tategami clan leader stretched out in front of her like any cat would do after a long nap. She could feel that one of her legs was a little numb. 'Odd,' Shuga thought to herself as she continued to stretch out that leg more. The woman hadn't fallen asleep in a bad position that made one of her legs go numb in quite some time. Sitting up in a knelt position, she brought her dirty hand up to her head and scratched the dried out and frizzy hair on her head. Her stomach let out a low growl which forced her to finally peek open those golden eyes of hers. "Uhhh," she groaned, perplexed as to why she was so hungry.
At that moment, Shuga realized that the glow of the sun was a bit warm for the afternoon. Fully opening her eyes, she gazed out to the sky. "ITS EVENING!?" Shuga shouted, hopping to her feet quickly. The Tategami woman was a regular napper and she knew how to not oversleep when she was sober. Looking around the grounds, she also noticed that Kore and Ruha were also snoozing away on the grass of the clan's grounds. This was a little suspicious to say the least, but Shuga merely cracked her neck.
Maya was leaving for the mainland tonight and Shuga had been wanting to make sure she had some good food with her before she left. "Kore! Ruha! Rise and shine," Shuga shouted, not going over to physically shake the two cubs since her booming voice was loud enough to wake even the deaf up. "We're going hunting again," the woman said, picking up her small utility belt and strapping it around her large hips.

Kore was peacefully sleeping on the grass under a tree. He had fallen asleep somehow trying to learn his surroundings. He was dreaming of more birds when he roar echoed through his ears. Snapping up to his side he looked to see the Large women again. He tilted his heads as she yelled but quickly picked up on the word hunting. He jetted up onto all fours nudging his sister. She was still sleep even after all that noise. Running to the large women his black paws bonding up and down along with his swishing black tipped tail.
The lion had only been hunting one other time but he enjoyed it. It was so enthralling it was more exciting then eating the prey, but he knew if he missed he wouldn't be eating much of anything. So far he is was one-for-one. He would like to keep his record like that.
Catching up with the large women he began to n** at her heels as she walked with her naked feet much like his own except for the thick things on her toes. They weren't claws but they were long. Ignoring them he followed her happily to the bamboo forest.

Shuga was more than happy to be back home. She strung the bird up by the feet on a wooden stand that had been crudely built by Shuga for draining the blood from a kill. After hanging it up, Shuga went into her tent to grab some sake! Coming out with a crude bottle in her hand, Shuga took a small drink. Something like sake wouldn't get her drunk at all, but she was addicted to the taste. "Alright, Kore! You can take a rest. Go play with Ruha or somethin," Shuga said, waving away the kit as she sat back down in front of the pheasant and began plucking its feathers free from its body.

Kore had followed Shuga from the Bamboo forest with his head held high from his latest successful hunting expedition, while he would have much rather have shown his skill to Baki, Kore had not seen him since that morning. Wondering where the leader of his pride could be he sat down and began to breath deeply in the evening air. Filling his nostrils with the whipping winds of the village he smelt many things. It was hard to grab any scent particular for he was very young, but he smelt a strong sense of salt. Being so close to the ocean it most likely made the air smell of slat. It was stronger then any other breeze. Standing Kore shook his head as he sneezed from the smell causing himself to fall over and have to get back up. He would go to the village to see if he could grasp a better scent of where Baki and Maya where.

As Kore wandered off from the Tategami grounds, Shuga went back to making her jerky. She really didn't need to focus on what she was doing since making jerky was one of her past times. Instead, she began thinking about teaching Maya and finding new clan members amongst the tykes at the academy. She was sure there were some boys and girls worthy of carrying the Tategami clan name and training with such fierce beasts. Shuga hadn't seen any of the new students since she got back, so maybe she would make a journey there while the jerky laid out to dry freely from the blood of the birds. Getting up from her spot in the ground and cleaning up in a little bucket of water, she would make her way to the academy to see the new meat to toughen up.

Maya entered the grounds, rubbing her eyes and plopping down on the ground. Baki sat next to her, curling around her so that when she lay back (because he knew she would), she would be laying on his side. As predicted, Maya leaned backwards and closed her eyes, getting ready to doze off almost instantly. The setting sun was warm, and she'd trained hard for the day. But damn...her chakra training...well...a few minutes sleeping wouldn't cause any harm, right? She needed a nap, and she was sure Baki needed one too. Baki lay his massive head down on the ground and closed his own eyes; Maya scratched his ears absentmindedly and wondered where Ruha and Jhuga were...she hadn't seen Jhuga in several months, ever since before Shuga left, and she wondered if the lion was alright. Well...he was a tough old geezer, he'd be fine. She chuckled at the thought and rolled onto her side, curling up against Baki and letting herself fall asleep. In a little while she'd train chakra...in a while...

Kore watched as Baki and Maya laided down almost in harmony while not knowing where to go he knew he needed somewhere to rest his head. Pikcing Maya's lap as the best place the furball mustered enough strength to climb onto her lap and cur up into a tight little ball. If he would need to be moved it would be easy to handle him. But the postion he had choosen was quite comfotable and Kore doozed of in a matter of seconds. The furball felt the warmth from Maya and found it soothing. Humans were not lions but they were not all bad.

Maya opened an eye to see Kore in her lap, and smiled slightly. She nuzzled against Baki, and sighed. Chakra training...yuck. She sighed and shuffled so that Kore could still sleep, but her hands were free. Now...Maya pursed her lips and made the seal for the tiger. She didn't have a favorite hand seal, but this one was as close to a lion as she was going to get, so hey. She knew it would be better to use the snake, since that seal was used more often in earth techniques, but snakes were slithery, not like Baki at all. She grunted, and realized quickly that she had done it incorrectly. Wasted chakra...she sighed, and shook her head, rubbing it against Baki's side. This was going to be hell...and it was going to take a while, too. She had quite a bit of chakra running rampant in her system, but even so...if she kept wasting it, she probably wouldn't do anything useful with it at all, which would make the entire training useless.

Maya winced slightly as she tried again with the feline seal, and shook her hands off. She'd burned herself with her own chakra? What the heck..? She sucked on her forefinger lightly, a frown on her face. She did abhor chakra, and she didn't care what anyone said, chakra was the most useless thing in the world. Now, fighting with her hands and legs...the simple force behind a powerful attack, that was true fighting, and she wouldn't be convinced otherwise. There was no way that anything else could come remotely close to the joy of feeling your fist connect with your opponent's face. No joy like that whatsoever. Maya closed her eyes and smiled, remembering the training with Ichi. He had been holding back, and then went a little tougher, but still...she'd fought well, and she'd almost gotten a hit on the kage. She wasn't proud that she'd almost injured her leader, but she was proud that she had held her own against someone of a much higher rank, even if he had been holding back.

Maya snorted and folded her hands into the seal that marked the snake, and concentrated. A short burst of chakra was released from her hands, perfectly controlled. A fluke? Maya blinked and stared at her hands, somewhat surprised. Well, that worked a lot better than she thought. She pouted - maybe once she got the hang of it a little more she'd try the tiger seal again. She knew, at least, that the tiger seal was one that Ichi used a lot - it had to do with fire. But still, it was her favorite anyway. Baki wasn't a tiger or anything but it was still kind of cool to associate the seal with him. She furrowed her brow and began to concentrate again. Maybe she could finally manage to get this done, which meant that maybe before she left, Shuga would be able to teach her a clan jutsu! That thought sparked Maya, and she carefully kept her hands in the snake seal.

No! Maya cringed - damn! She had let her hands slip, and now there was no 'seal', only a mess of fingers. She snarled low, shaking her hands out. She'd wasted a bit of chakra there...again. She spat out one of the many sharp sounding words that the drunken adults said during festivities, and released her hands from each other. She glared at them, absolutely angry that she kept doing it wrong. Eventually she would have to learn how to control her chakra, but it eluded her and she wasn't satisfied with how she was training. Even if Shuga admitted that she herself had trouble with chakra, she still kicked major butt. And Maya? Maya growled as she tried to focus again. She'd get this..she had to!

Maya formed the snake seal once more, closing her eyes so that she could focus her concentration. Focus...focus...focus! She swallowed, and felt a small surge of excitement- as well as a small surge of chakra! She opened her eyes, feeling immensely better now. Maybe she was starting to get the hang of this after all...it would certainly be about time that she did. She lifted her hands above her head, yawning and tugging on her hair. Where was Shuga? Her aunt was usually drunk by now, sleeping or eating. And dinner was..? Well, she would probably have to go out and get her own dinner, or just eat some other time. Her stomach rumbled and she patted it softly, and she yawned again. She had to get down to the shoreline...at some point before the end of the night. Otherwise, she might get left behind, and she definitely didn't want that to happen.

Maya kept her hands in the snake seal, and closed her eyes. Concentration was all she really needed, after all. No problem, right? She breathed easily, feeling the chakra flow easily. Slow, steady - it burned off slowly, and Maya felt a tiny bit better. Maybe she was getting the hang of this after all. She knew she'd never be as good as, say, Aya - Aya was a chakra junkie - but she'd be good enough to learn a Tategami clan jutsu, and that was good enough for Maya! Even just one, to make her really feel part of the clan, that would be enough. Well, not really - Maya already knew she was a major part of the clan. She smiled at that, and reveled in the fact that she would be the next clan leader when the time came. A low sound emitted from Baki, and she giggled. Silly snoring lion...she continued her own training, keeping in mind that she'd wake Baki afterwards for a little extra training of his own.

Maya slipped and felt her focus go away, opening her eyes and looking down at Kore. Silly cub...but then, Baki had been the same when he was little. Maya chuckled and tugged on her hair, feeling less agitated about failure now. She stretched a little, and picked Kore up, settling him into Baki's mane. Baki would probably wake up in a little while, but until then, Kore could sleep in his furry mane. Maya did hope, though, that once Kore was big, he didn't get it into his head to challenge Baki again. That would possibly get very, very ugly.
