Marilyn Balcombe had inherited the shop from her grandparents when they had passed away. It was something the young woman didn’t mind in the least – she had no direction in life and needed to do something to supplement her income. She couldn’t freeload off her parents, as easy as that would be.
The shop itself was quite nice. It was situated within in Durem, not too far from the clock tower that chimed each hour with that deep gong Marilyn had come to live with. The front was stone with great windows, tiny little murals of fantastical beasts etched onto the bottom in white ice. A wooden sign hung from wrought iron was fixed to the shop front, reading “Balcombe Curiosities.” It had been made by her grandfather before the arthritis set in and was a remarkable piece of art, the Balcombe family had always thought.
All in all, it was an ordinary shop. A bit on the grandiose side, but normal. But there would be no story if it was but a normal shop, and Marilyn was soon to discover that what she thought would be a cozy gig would turn into something much harder than that.
The day it happened, it wasn’t raining, it wasn’t storming, there was no thunder or lightning; it wasn’t anything but sunny and bright and cheerful. It was completely ordinary.
She had been cleaning out various boxes, organizing their contents onto shelves within the store and marking prices on their little tags. It was repetitious work, but fairly easy, so Marilyn Balcombe did not mind. That was until she found the rabbit figure.
The figure was one of those objects you would expect to see in an old lady’s house – the kind of ceramic animal that was an off white with ridiculous roses and little swirling patterns on its surface. Yet there was something about it, something that drew Marilyn to the object, made it irresistible to touch.
For a moment, she cradled the rabbit figure in her arms as if she would if it were living before whisking it off under the counter to remove it from the shop floor. It was hers now and no one else’s.
If anyone asked later, Marilyn wouldn’t be able to tell you why she had felt that urge to own the object. She just did. And for that, the object seemed grateful. Although its gratitude was not something it related in the best of ways.
That night, when Marilyn took the rabbit figure home, she set it up on a shelf, ate her dinner, brushed her teeth, and went to bed. That morning, it was gone. Baffled, the young woman began to her search her house, looking for wherever the figure could have disappeared to.
And then, she found it. Sitting right there, cooing in the middle of her floor was a toddler that greatly resembled the ceramic figure, from off white skin to hair the same colour as the swirling patterns to rose clothing. It was the figure. And it was alive.
Marilyn could only stare, shocked.
The toddler stared back, unperturbed.
Marilyn stared some more, jaw dropping.
The toddler cooed, pleased with the attention.
".............Well, s**t." The Curio Shop is a free RP intensive pet shop with unique lineart for each stage of the pet.
It was set up so that Turbolizard could get more practice drawing and experimenting with techniques and styles while providing a fun environment for everyone else to play in.

1. Turbolizard's word is law. No arguments. 2. Please abide by Gaia's TOS and keep things PG-13 in both the thread and the guild. 3. Even though the pets are free, that doesn't mean you can beg for one. So please don't. 4. No stealing or altering the art. The only way the art can be altered is if you're using it to make banners/graphics for your Curio's journal. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM Turbolizard about them. She'd be more than happy to answer them and add them to the FAQ.
1) Free?! Are you off your nut?!
Nope. Everything here is free, but I will be releasing things in limited quantities based on how well people do writing set prompts and what my workload is like. This shop is mostly for my artistic benefit so that I can get in more practice drawing various things.
2) So if they're free, I can get one any time that I want, right?
Wrong. Please reread the first question and see the section on how to obtain a pet.
3) Do I have to RP?
Only if you want your pet to grow. I want at least one entry per stage, which isn't asking a lot. I'm not going to be a complete pain about it. Just as long as you're active and doing things, I'm cool.
4) How many can I own?
As many as you want. Just know you can only win one per flatsale and you should know your limits to what you can take care of.
5) Are we allowed to co-own pets?
No. The only way that you can co-own is if you receive a set of twins, in which you can have one kid per parent. Otherwise, it's a hassle that I don't want to deal with.

Roleplaying for this shop is to be done in the guild. Please abide by the following rules when you do RP:
1. No godmodding, power playing, or metagaming. You cannot control someon else's character without their permission, your own characters are not all powerful, and your character would not know information that is not revealed to them.
2. Keep RP at a PG-13 level. If you want to go above and beyond that, then please keep it to an IM service and off of Gaia.
3. There is a difference between OOC and IC. Things that happen ICly (In Character) should not affect people OOCly (Out of Character). They are actions of a fictional character and are not meant as slights against you.

Curio | This is the starting stage. Your child will come to you as an object that you feel a strong pull towards in the Curio Shop. | Lasts: 1-2 weeks
Baby | This stage is only obtained through breeding, when your Curio couple has decided to spawn a little one of their own. | Lasts: 1 month
Toddler | That odd thing you picked up at the Curio Shop has turned into a sweet, lovable toddler! Or mischievous. We at the Curio Shop cannot guarantee the levels of destruction. | Lasts: 1 month | [X] [X]
Child | Your toddler has grown into a child. Levels of destruction may increase. But hey, at least now they're more sentient. | Lasts: 2-3 months
Teen | Your child has now hit puberty. This needs no explanation. | Lasts: 3-4 months | [X]
Adult | The teenager has now hit its final stage -- adulthood! Go out. Get a job. Freeloader. | Lasts: Forever Your Curio's growth is dependent on your RPing. If you do not RP, your Curio will not grow at all and will remain whatever stage it is until you do. So, obviously, if you do RP, your curio will grown.
In order to have your Curio grow, you need to either participate in one thread RP (in the guild) or post one journal entry for each stage that it's in.
When it's nearing time for your Curio to grow into its next stage and you have completed the requirements for growth, you need to go to this thread, fill out the form for the Curio that's growing, and then post it. That way, Turbolizard knows what you want for your next stage.
If you're unsure as to when your Curio will grow, please visit this thread in Turbolizard's work forum. It details the dates for around when the Curios are to grow. Please keep in mind that while there are dates listed, it is completely dependent on how much time Turbolizard has and how much you RP. The dates are there mostly to let you know when it is an appropriate time to post your growth form.

Curios retain some physical traits from when their object stage. When you fill out the form to get your Curio, you are allowed to pick up to three traits that you would definitely like to see. Some examples include:
- Eye Colour - Horns - Patterns/Markings
Feel free to go wild, but please use some reason when you create your physical traits for your curio. An object, such as music box, would probably be less likely to sprout fur as compared to an object like a cat statuette.
In addition, Turbolizard will probably add additional physical traits as she sees fit, also using your own. Some Curios have special powers or abilities. It all depends on the object.
For example, Faline started from a rabbit figurine. One of her physical traits was to have rabbit like ears. Because of this, one of her abilities is enhanced hearing.
Magical powers are also allowed, but reason should be exercised with this as it should be with the physical traits. If your object is a witch's wand, then it would make sense that your Curio would be able to perform magic and so on and so forth.
Other powers could make life on your Curio easier. If your Curio has a physical trait like glass skin, they would probably be able to break more easily or get cracks along their surface. Having the ability to heal would be helpful in keeping your Curio from falling apart.
If you have any questions or doubts as to what is appropriate for either physical abilities or special traits, feel free to PM Turbolizard about it.

You can obtain a pet through a multitude of ways.
.Flatsales. Flatsales will be held every so often. They will all be prompt based and will be judged based on your Curio idea and writing. They will have a limited number of slots, though sometimes, if an idea strikes, Turbolizard will allow more than just that number.
.Concepts. If you feel you're not lucky enough to win a flatsale, there's always the Concepts sub-forum in the guild. There, you can detail information about your Curio and if the idea seems interesting enough to Turbolizard, sometimes she'll draw it.
.Hanging Out. If you hang around the thread a whole lot, there's a chance you'll get a Curio if Turbolizard has enough time. Your chances increase if you have a Concept thread set up, though.
.Breeding. If your friend breeds their Curio and decides not to keep the children that result from it, they have the option of giving it to someone else.
.Pet Trades. Turbolizard loves getting pets, especially ones she can RP. If you have something from her wishlist that she wants and even if you don't, PM her about it and a pet trade might be set up. There are no guarantees this will happen, though, just as a side note.

Curios can breed with other Curios. Curios can breed with any other humanoid creature.
If you'd like your Curio to breed with another (humanoid) pet outside of the shop, I need permission from the shopkeeper. If you would like your Curio to produce offspring with one of your OCs or someone else's OC, that can be arranged.
Same sex couples are allowed and can breed. They just breed a little differently from the normal way. (Still being determined.)
Breeding costs nothing, but you should have an established relationship between your Curio and whoever they are breeding with.
Breeding typically results with one baby per couple, though if you're more active, you could get twins, even triplets.

PM Turbolizard if you would like to set up a pet trade. Even if your shop isn't on the list, that doesn't mean she wouldn't be interested, feel free to give it a shot anyway.
Wishlist:
- Incantation of the Spirit (Labyrinth Spirit~) - Aduthule (Sound/Silence) - Double Trouble Fertility Clinic Slot - Vudoll
Even though Curios are RP required, through pet trades, the RP requirement can be lifted, as long as Turbolizard is given the same luxury should she choose (which she probably won't take up because she loves RPing, goshdarnit).
