Xiaoshang lounged about around the kitsusagi headquarters just outside the door. It was a nice quiet day, the sun shining and the early spring winds blowing his mane around his features. However sitting alone was such a bore... Wanting nothing more than someone to talk to, or even trick them out of something valuable, he sat by the door waiting for someone gullible enough to cross his path.

 Ah. New day, new day. A bright and brilliant sort. Perfect for learning and making friend and seeing things that can't be seen by night's dark glow. Shifting and shimmering about the place, a black dragon that seemed to glow in a glazed blue was slinking around looking for something, or someone. Boredom was a familiar friend and often he could occupy himself by having little conversations with various smaller things, but today it seemed there could be none! It was also most unfortunate that he had not ever seen another like himself, until today that is.
With deep blue eyes narrow from loneliness, he approached the headquarters, intending to curl himself up miserably inside again. It was nice here... but he preferred wherever he'd come from. Memories seemed a little hazy on this front though, as if he'd been drugged and diagnosed with amnesia. No matter. He was here now, for better or worse.
And this is where his thoughts stopped and eyes trailed upward, curiously. Another dragon! Someone just like him! How wonderful! With all the excitement of a young kit, he bound over and sat himself promptly in front of red dragon; an easy target. "Hello there!"

Xiao didn't have to wait very long, did he? As the dark male made his way towards him he kept a neutral expression... at least, up until he spoke. Ohhh, this one sounded gullible indeed... however so far he didn't see anything on the dragon's person that he might want. "Hello." He smiled charmingly, coming off as calm and polite. After sitting up he eyed his fellow dragon. "It's a lovely day out here, isn't it?"

For a long and fascinating moment, Temeraire stood staring, as if lost, at the other and then the grin upon his muzzle impossibly widened further. A dragon. Someone like himself. A friend. Someone to talk to... it all seemed rather excited and the dark dragon was getting the jitters to simply bellow out in happiness. Keeping himself in check however, and shuffling with a slight nervousness on his clawed paws, he hummed out a response in his sleek voice, ""Yes. Though there doesn't seem to be many others outside to enjoy it..."

Wow, he sure was a bubble about to explode wasn't he? Curious about Temeraire's actions, the orange and yellow dragon eyed him up an down, assessing him before he spoke. Xiaoshang then looked back up to his eyes, as if his previous gaze hadn't happened at all. "Oh I'm sure there are others about, just hiding I presume - wanting to keep to themselves and enjoy the day." He gestured outward, as if any moment another kitsusagi would pop out of the bushes.

"Do you really think so?" he replied in an excited undertone. It was as if the world was spinning. More? Were there really more out there? Oh but ... perhaps they were busy with other things. In which case it would be a real shame to interrupt them. Of course, oblivious with excitement and wired down to the tips of his tails, he didn't give it much thought, instead turning around to glance over for himself and then back to the reddish dragon with bright green eyes. What strange colors! So very unlike his own black fuzzy hide.

This one was very much like a small child, wasn't he? How peculiar. He wondered what had made Temeraire like this, but the thought quickly faded. Even though he had nothing of desire at the moment, Xiaoshang decided it would be in his own best interests to befriend this gullible dragon. Even if there was nothing he wanted, the dark male would perhaps make himself useful in the future.
"Oh, but I know so." He said coyly. "It's not strange for others to seek out refuge by their lonesome, some prefer it over the company of others. I, however, do enjoy company. Don't you?" He smiled.

A friend was a friend until they weren't a friend anymore. And to Temeraire, that could only happen if one died. Though, he'd never been present for any deaths, and in this place he hadn't had any friends. He remembered what it was like, what it was like being in company. From the day he'd been born, he'd never been alone. Someone had always been by his side, sharing comfort, and only down did he find himself lost by himself and completely miserable at times.
So to the other dragon's question, he nodded quite eagerly. "Nothing is much fun alone. There's nobody to talk to and nothing to really learn. I find it rather boring!" He finally exclaimed outright.

The dragon smiled brightly, already enjoying having Temeraire seemingly wrapped around his paw. No harm would befall him though, Xiao was never one for violence. "Oh, look at me; forgetting my manners." He shook his head. "My name is Xiaoshang. It's a pleasure to have run into you... um..." He trailed off, waiting for Teme to finish the sentence for him.

And then with a shocked gasp and eyes widening like saucers, the dark coated dragon realized that he too had forgotten his manners! Once upon a time he would've walked into a conversation gung-ho, name and cheers a blazing unless it was an enemy. "Xiaoshang..." he muttered, letting the feeling slide off as he tested the name, and then shook it off. "I'm Temeraire! It's very nice to meet you!" There was a slightly regal bow as he bobbed his head and then beamed back as he straightened once more, "Xiaoshang... that's quite an interesting name..." It wasn't said with hesitation either. More like curiosity, as if searching out a meaning behind it.

"Pleasure to meet you, Temerarie." The orange dragon bowed his head in greeting, rising it once more and then watching his new companion with bright green eyes. "Ah, it's Chinese." He smiled, keeping the idle conversation going. "My family spoke it fluently. You could say that they weren't really from around here, I suppose."
"They brought me here with them when I was just a child, so I know little of the language myself." He admitted.

Chinese. China. Somehow the word set off a spark in the black dragon's mind and he snapped to close attention, wondering if he knew it. It sounded really familiar, like a forgotten memory that was a broken chip in his mind. Something he should have known but couldn't quite connect to. It was annoying and he shook his head lightly, trying to clear out the thoughts and answer politely, almost half-explaining his strange and vague silence, "I know a little myself..." He seemed pleased by this fact and went on, a bit happier, "I'm not from around here either!"

Xiaoshang eyed the male with curiosity, staring equally during the silent spell. How... interesting. It was if he was trying to remember something. Intrigued, the orange male looked up at Teme after he spoke. "Really? Where are you from then?" He was actually curious now, the con and getting the other male into his grasp forgotten for the moment.

At the sudden interest, Temeraire looked slightly pleased and proud of himself for making friends, until he properly heard and understood the question. His ears fell down a little, and had he had ruffs on the side of his face, they surely would've drooped. Everything about him seemed to be pulled down by the force of gravity and he sighed, obviously upset, "I... can't remember..." Naturally, he wasn't the sort of guy to smile it all away. He was happy when he was happy, and when he was sad, he was only cheered up again with the promise of jewels or good things, of which he had very few lately.

Glowing green eyes blinked. This kitsusagi really was proving to be entertaining. "Interesting..." He spoke aloud, not hiding his general curiosity for the male's plight. "So you have a case of amnesia. Can you not remember anything from your past?"
