I forget where the official Vent thread is, otherwise this would go in there, but I feel the need to express my discontent regarding the situation I have landed myself in. I have taken on a job that on many an occaision is about as bad as a molten lead enema: I work at The National Canadian Exhibition - known here in Toronto as The Ex - cleaning the toilets...because apparently I didn't have enough experience to be a parking attendant.
...
You read that correctly. Apparently I am not skilled enough to be A. PARKING. ATTENDANT.
Now, The Ex itself is a large-scale festival of sorts that lasts for two and a half weeks. Games, rides, people in funny costumes, a casino and severla theatre areas. Nice place to visit, but for me I never want to work here again. There are many reasons why I do not like this position but two reasons why I need to endure and keep it. Let's start with the bad.
1) I am paid minimum wage. That's about $7.45 Canadian, six hours a day, meaning $44.7 per day. Not bad, but considering I'm scrubbing away people's shyte stains on the WALLS I would expect it to be at least a little closer to eight bucks.
2) It is oh so hot. This needs no explanation. Although before my transfer today (which I will get into) I worked by the lake which made it nice and cool as night time rolled around.
3) Very few people flush, and even fewer people wash their hands and pick up their garbage. This is rather irritating, especially when someone has left a HUGE LOAD in the bowl and not bothered to send into the abyss that is the Torontonian sewers, where our mutant beavers and zombie lumberjacks stalk the shadows in search of children and dumbassed mayors to feast on. Makes my job ickier all the same.
Now, today, I got a nice surprise from my supervisors: I got transferred to the casino! At first I thought, hey not bad, until they told me I'd still be paid the same and I'd have to work an extra two hours. So my shift has extended from 4-10 PM to 4-Midnight. This wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the fact that the Casino itself has NO AIR CONDITIONING. Very stuffy, very hot, and very crowded. I must have taken seven breaks because I couldn't breathe. I nearly passed out twice. That's bad. So bad it's terrible! Top that off with the fact that people in the Casino are far dirtier and more irresponsible with their goods and flushings than the ones outside and I'm not exactly dancing the funky chicken here.
But, there are two main reasons why I need to stay with this job. The first and most obvious being that quitting will look very bad on a resume, especially not when your other three jobs from the past include Hospital Volunteer, Art Gallery Volunteer and Guy Who Handed Out Fliers For Charity In July. The second being that with the coming Labour Day Weekend I will be paid time and a half. These are good incentives to keep going, and I would be more enthusiatic if the job was something I actually, you know, wanted.
Good thing I actually talked to my supervisors about this garbage. With any luck I'll be put someplace nice and far away from the Casino come tomorrow and I'll have less to b***h about.
Kojiro Update Complete. Nothing else to see here, move along.

Don't forget to mention the crushing loneliness and the spiders. Those were my favorite parts!

the_brucolac Don't forget to mention the crushing loneliness and the spiders. Those were my favorite parts! Yeah, forgot about that. Like Bruco said, nobody up there in my old workstation except fields of spiders. Dude, I would talk to them I got so lonely. They never talked back, which was assurring.

Sorry to read of this situation.
I can almost understand the logic of no air conditioning in the bathrooms at the casino. Makes the drunken slobs want to get back out into the smoke filled halls and bet their pathic asses off while swilling down watered down booze.
Hope you get that transfer shortly. Hang in there.

Phew!
Back outside again. The job still sucks but not as much anymore thank god. It all worked out when I asked this dude who was paying for child support to switch up with me. He was eternally grateful.
*pets the spiders in the bathroom stall* Hello little ones...daddy's home...

There's no emoticon for what I'm feeling.
To summarize: Damn.
