It had been a long day. It seemed the lack of rains was causing many to suffer and even the famine god felt exhausted. It had been a long time since he had felt so tired. Of course that didn't change the way he moved he still collapsed around, his bones screaming almost with every step he took, the sinew and tendons pulled to their limit.
He was heading back to Kenzi though and it almost gladdened his heart to know that the little lioness would be waiting for him. It was strange how he could always find her without having to have a call. He knew where she was and he was glad of it.Letting out a bone shattering breath the skeletal god moved in tot he deep shade of a group of trees. he knew she was here some where. It was strange to know where she was, he was glad she was near.
Like predicted, Kenzi was nearby. She was rolling in the grasses and batting at a little butterfly with a smile on her face. Though, the thought of Jaddis' company made her wish he would return soon. Least there was many things here to distract the little goddess. Once the butterfly flew up higher, she could no longer reach it. Frowning, she rolled over to her side and flapped her wings and hovered towards the insect playfully. "See, i'm just like you little butterfly! I have pretty wings and I fly, too!" Smiling once more, she chased the little critter around in the air for a bit before seeing movements farther away behind the trees. She landed on the ground, hid her wings, and then sunk into the grass. Seconds later, she recognized the figure and sprung up from the ground like a daisy. Leaping towards Jaddis, she called out to him with joy. "Jaddis! I missed you so much! I'm so glad you're back!"
The bone thin god watched her for a long moment, admireing her play, she was so carefree, a real spirit of happiness. It wa sthen that whens he came galavanting towards him that his strange disjointed voice gave a laugh. "It has been a long, difficult day." His voice utters simply as he sits his bones and tendons creaking as he did so.
"Did you have a fun day?" He whispers his dark eyes resting on the warm brown female. "I'v missed you too." His ragged ears moved beneath his mane then and for once the eternally morbid features looked shocked. had he just said that? He was surprised at himself. It had been so long since he had, had a companion and now he was missing the one he had gained?
"But, of course my day was full of fun and excitement, but even that cannot be as fun as spending time with you." She purred and leaned against the god with a smile. "After all, another god is company, but the other creatures, and the peaceful land is just a distraction." It felt so wonderful to see him again! After all, they were seperated all day. She truly missed him very much, as her domain demanded from her. Her eyes began to glow when he mentioned missing her as well. Was this the perfect dream? Was she asleep? She leaned against his bony, beaten body and warmed him with her fur. "I'm very much glad you missed me. It means a lot to me."
Jaddis' breath came in a rather short, drawn out squeek as she sat next to him, he could fel her, he could feel her soft fur and eprfect warmth, and it was strange. He couldnt't usually join his own body properly without feeling that agonising pain that his body was constantly in. He was the god of famine, he was famine itself and that was all he felt when he was one withhis body.
What then stopped the painful feeling? He did not know, nor try to understand it he simply sat beside the little goddess and let her wramth wash over him. "I have not missed someone for a very long time, I cannot remember the last time I missed someone." His voice chuckled, the usual harness, the sorry and the calls of those whom needed him gone from his voice.
Kenzi simply sat beside him and enjoyed the moment. It was so peaceful laying in the grasses that day. The grass felt more soft than usual, and the trees let only a little sun shine through. It wasn't too hot or cold; it was just perfect and she liked it that way. Nuzzling into his mane, she purred louded than ever. "Jaddis ... I think I felt more than just missing you, today. I felt ... a tug at my heart." She looked up into his stone-cold eyes, with her own innocent ones. She smiled warmly, and licked his face. "But, thats cause ... I think we're more than just friends. I really like you ... a lot. More than just like. I know i'm just a little crazy goddess, but ... your my Master. My friend, my life ... ... my love." Her ears folded back, as she was somewhat afraid to hear his reaction. Considering that his life was famine, and thats all it ever was.
He listened to her in silence, his body still, dead seemingly, it was a long time after she had finished speaking that the coal eyed god spoke. "Yes..I think you are right." he stated this in a very simplistic manner, as if it was a truth he had never thought of. Having this friend, this obedient female around him, some of her happy influence had rubbed off on him, he felt proud and happy, if that was the word, to be around her. he missed her when he went and longed to be back beside her though it had been mroe than a millenia since his shrivelled heart had beaten it beat a message along his rib cage now.
"I, will always return to you kenzi." he whispered simply his stoney eyes meeting hers, their colour changing from souless grey to warm brown his deep pupils flashing with life, with the personality he hid behind his cold exterior.
"And i'll always await for you to return, always." She felt so wonderful, laying beside her love. When she saw his eyes change to normal, she almost wanted to cry. Was she doing this to the great Jaddis? Turning him into a softie? Maybe it was for the best. Even the strongest of Gods needed to take a break and spend time away from their duties. She didn't want to repeat it to him, but she was glad that he was finally back beside her. So, in their moment of warmth and happiness, Kenzi thought about other things as well.
She thought about their future together. After all, gods futures really ... lasted for eternity. Would it be smart to ask him an important question, which could effect both their lives for an eternity? While she was ready, she didn't know if her friend was. "... I know we tried to ... have cubs before, and I failed you ... but, this would mean a lot to me, Jaddis. I've grown closer to you, I feel like I know you more because we waited and got to know one another better. And I'm glad of it. Because now I truly love you, no matter how scary, creepy, or deadly you look. I look beyond whats on the outside." She paused for a moment and clung to him. He felt warm; he felt so much more alive than before!
Jaddis watched her quietly, his eyes for once, not returning instantly to their stone greay. He hadn't felt she had failed him, far from it, he did not think that he could possibly care for cubs. It was not his domain, it was no part of his domain, except to help those starving and tiny to calm their fear, and take away their pains.
He let a slow breath roll over his lips before he replied. "I am not sure I would make a good father Kenzi." he answered, his chocolate coloured eyes fixing hers, he could see his own reflection in her gaze and it worried him. Would any child want to grow under his stare? he waited quietly for her answer, he knew if she wished it he could not say no, but the fear of being unable to raise children, little immortals whom must do right by their own domains, acctually sent a shiver down the ancient gods spine.
"Well, I don't care what you think of yourself, Jaddis ... I think you'd be a good father." Kenzi smiled and looked into his beautiful brown eyes. "Any cub that sees you at birth would natually think of you as a father figure, you know. If we seclude them and they only know us as their world, then what would cubs have to fear of you, Jaddis? Who knows what twisted domains would be created in the process, but that makes it even more exciting. We could teach them ourselves ... and keep them in the Haven until they're old enough to be on their own." She didn't care what crazy domains could come from reproducing, but it made her feel closer to her love if she has crazy copies of him to watch after while he worked.
Jaddis chuckled and shook his thin boney head. She spoke from her heart and he knew it. She didn't care what would come of their bonding, as long as they were cubs that she could care for. He took in a slow breath as he allowed his mind to process the details his warm brown eyes watching her carefully. "If it would make you happy Kenzi I cannot say no to you."
He stood slowly then, his decrepit body brushing against ehr small, soft figure. "We will raise them right, but they must see the world Kenzi, it is an important place and it must play a part in their lives." He released his breath and spread his ragged thread bare wings. He would attempt to be a father if that was what she wished him to be. "Come." He whispers padding away from the small copse of trees. I know a private place near by wheer we can be alone." He waits for a moment then, waiting for her to join him at his side, those gentle eyes still remaining, soft brown gaze, just for her.
Kenzi nodded happily and followed after Jaddis. "Of course i'll come." She purred loudly as she laid beside the other God, now in their private place. "It'll make me the happiest Goddess in the world, Jaddis." She nuzzled against the great, old god and cuddled him. She continued to stare into his brown eyes, falling in love with him more as the time passed.
Jaddis gave a nod and lead Kenzi off towards his private place. Who knew what would happen this evening, what ever did happen their lives had changed forever this day, of that he was certain.
