Oh deary, she had certainly stayed here for much longer than she had planned. It wasn't her fault D'ob had absolutely the best tasting grass she could hope to taste, but it was rather warm during the winter season and she simply couldn't imagine wandering around in the bitter cold. Truely it was an experiance for her, staying the winter in the valley all her own as she did the years before. Such saddening years they were as well, she concluded, for she did miss the large groups of nequus she use to talk too. To know, to share stories with, her heart content to simply smile at a passerby she had probably had a conversation with the day before. Yes, it was very, very saddening- "Stop it, Vierny", she scolded rather scrupulously, giving her curly mane a thick shake as she did so.

She shouldn't be moping in the past! There was so much to hope for in the future, so much to that could make her happy as a crow with a shiny piece of jewelry. Haha, that was the spirit. Besides, the large Aeri mare was rather excited over a bit of news she had heard towards the begining of the season, talk of a swirled green Aeri that had been in the Aeri. Perhaps it was her long-lost nephew? She would have squealed like a filly at such a thought, and in fact she almost did, if it weren't for how one of her forehooves caught the ground and had her stumbling to regain her balance. Deary, she needed to pay more attention!

With a thorough inspection at the ground below, and finding nothing amiss with her round hooves, the valentines female set her gaze once more and pushed on into a heavy trot; one that must have looked funny to anyone who happened to be watching. For as she moved, her body seemed to be bouncing with every step she took, heavy thuds sounding as her hooves struck earth, and her head bobing up and down; the funny thing was, she wasn't much faster than she had been while walking.

Sekhmet nibbled at the rich green grass, raised her head to peer about, and lowered her head to take another nibble. She was, she believed, just outside the herlands of her family. She hoped she was. It wasn’t much, she knew, but the little piece of daring made her feel alive and alleviated her worries a little about the conversation she had overheard the night before. Only a little though.

Her parents had not chosen one another. She and her siblings were not born from love. Perhaps it oughtn’t to bother her, but it did though not for the reason one might immediately think. After all, if her mother and father could be trapped in a mating they didn’t want, what was going to stop the same happening to her?

She was too young yet to have much interest in colts or stallions, but she did have the very definite idea that she didn’t want somebody else to pick her partner. Flicking an ear, the impressively striped filly lowered her head to take another small morsel of good valley grass. She wouldn’t eat very much more of it than she’d already had; she’d taken on board her father’s words about what too much of it could do to a Nequus, but what she did eat of it she thoroughly enjoyed; it was quite possibly the nicest grass she’d ever had.

Chewing thoughtfully, the gold-eyed Jala raised her head again... And caught sight of and Aeri moving at a most peculiar gait. She’d never seen anyone move quite like that before. Tilting her head to one side, she watched the tall mare draw nearer with interest. Perhaps, she considered as she swallowed her mouthful, she would make a friend today.

It never really occured to Vierna that her higher gaits were awkward, but then again she had never really felt the need to perfect them either. Sure, she knew how to work on them, sorta, kinda, but actually going through with it was a totally different story. As the large mare made her way through the valley, her thundering strides once in awhile getting her an odd look from whoever was around, she continued to think happily upon meeting up with her nephew; Zaknafein. He was such a sweet little colt, she couldn't imagine the handsome stallion he had turned into, and even more so what a life he must have been living. Oh boy, she was very excited about finding him, and she had high hopes of doing so soon. He had to be around here somewhere, and if she had thunder around all of D'ob she would find him!

Thundering, that's what her sister had called her quicker gaits. Awkward, heavy, and slow paces that made it sound like thunder everytime her hoof struck the ground. Oh well, it was fun, and she wasn't going to deny the bouncing was indeed very much like a game to her. However, as she neared what she had suspected to be a tiny black creature, she happened to the spot the filly's raised head. Filly's? Colt's? Hum, foal's, that was for sure. It certainly wasn't a creature she had imagined to run into, but oh my she was a tiny thing! At least, compared to such a larger nequus like herself.

Upon her approach, the female ceased her thundering and returned to a walking gait, ears pricked happily and silver eyes gazing down at the little thing. "Why hello there young one, such a nice day out for grass I see." It didn't bother her that she was speaking with a stranger, muchless someone else's foal, Vierna was just delighted to see a youth around. They were such cute little things, much like little Zakky had been.

The mare seemed okay so far, and so Sekhmet smiled and perked her ears forward. “It does seem to be niriture, and a nice day to meet people too. My name’s Sekhmet, who’re you?” She was really quite a big thing up close, but then Aeri mares were, weren’t they? As yet she hadn’t met very many, and she was glad to add another to her repertoire of experience.

The more she knew about the world the better. One never knew when one might be thrust out into a situation where little tidbits, such as she was gathering from the strangers she talked to and the places she crept off to, could be a life saver, or an ego saver at the very least. It was never good to look ignorant in Sekhmet’s opinion, and so she went to great lengths to avoid that fate.

Delightful, simply delightful. She had met a few brats in her day, and most had been born into the little family herd she had been from, but so far the Jala filly seemed like she knew some manners. Which brought a smile onto the valentines' mare's muzzle. "Indeed it is, nice to meet you Sekhmet, I am Vierna." As she spoke the mare gradually brought her head down from its high point on her neck, wanting to get more towards the little one's level and thusly not as intimitating. If that was even the word to call Vierna, for she was quite the friendly mare having been around the block a few times herself in age. Oh, sure, her younger years had been a bit of a rough one, and she certainly had been a bit more fiery, but once you were over the hill it was all downward movement from there. Better enjoy it while you still could.

Her silver eyes then dropped to the grasses below, and though she wasn't hungry herself gave a light bob of her head. "The valley here has such sweet grasses, I consider it a treat myself. However" she continued after bringing her gaze back up to meet the fillyes, "I noticed you have quite the coloring on your coat. Very pretty I must say." Oh pleasant times, she couldn't help but hope for the best from this meeting.

The filly smiled and twisted her head about to inspect the bi-coloured stripes on her rump. Turning her head back, she grinned again. “Thank you Vierna niriture, I’m very fond of my markings, and of my coat all together.”

She had been told that she would be quite the looker when she grew up, and the predominately black Jala was glad of that. Even in her short life she had found that attractive Nequus were treated better than plain ones. Oh there was the danger of people thinking you just a pretty face, but that was a small price to pay for people thinking the best of you at once.

“You’re very pretty too,” Sekhmet said after a moment with a smile and a dip of her head to the tall mare as her eyes settled on the wonderfully thick curls of the Aeri’s mane and tail. This Vierna was a very nice seeming sort indeed, and the feather-winged filly had to wonder if perhaps there were more people in D’ob like her. Maybe the valley made for soft kind tempers like this... If of course the mare lived here and was not, as she herself, a visitor.

“Please Vierna niriture,” Sekhmet said after a moment, curious once more, “where do you come from if you don’t mind my asking?” Hopefully that was not a rude question, she had no desire to be thought of as rude.

For one, she rather liked the ruddy-coloured Aeri already and for another it was never good to be rude to people larger than you no matter how sweet they seemed. People, after all, could be deceptive, could present a nice face to the world or then again they could be genuinely good sorts but short on temper like her mother was. Still, she thought she’d been polite so it was probably alright.

Indeed the filly had a very attractive coloring, and Vierna couldn't even think to imagine what her parents might have looked like. Maybe a fully black one? The other with the colorful stripes? Or perhaps a mix of the colors? Hum, she would need to think on that one, for it was often times very difficult for her to figure such things out, but quite the game in the process. At Sekhmet's compliment to her own coat, Vierna could help but giving a delighted little nicker, shaking her neck just slightly so her curly mane bounced about on her neck. "Why thankyou sweety, I do enjoy it as well." The way the colors mingled together to form her almost purpley-red coat was entrancing, as well as the silver that complemented it from her stockings and her wings. Not too good for flying, as Aeri wings usually were, but she enjoyed them nonetheless.

It was at the 'please' that she turned her attention back to the striped filly, both ears pricking to be sure she should hear every little detail that was said. The question itself wasn't offensive at all, but it took awhile to think on the answer. "Not at all." she spoke, muddling over the possibilities of where she came from. "Well, I suppose for a few years I have called this my home, and a few years before that, however I have also called Yisi and Ryuten my home as well at some points in my life. Though I must say, by far I prefer the weather in D'ob", she concluded with a bob of her head and a grin.

However, then the thought came to her as if it had slowly been approaching all the while. "Do you call D'ob your home as well?" She thought that a nice way to putting it, and one that wasn't too nosey in the filly's affairs. Perhaps her parents were close by? She wasn't sure how they would react to her talking to the filly, but she had some odd experiances with parents before.

Sekhmet smiled and shook her little head. “No, not quite. My family lives a little north of here, this is the first time I’ve come to D’ob alone.” ...Perhaps she would not say that she had come without permission, for nice as this Aeri was she might well feel obligated to take her home for her own safety and that would mean people finding out.

If people found out, she would be more closely watched and her little adventures might well come to an end. She was, after all, far to precious to her father’s herd and her mother’s herd to be lost and yes, precious to her parents and the rest of her family too. Still, she was being sensible so she saw no reason not to keep up her wandering. She also knew, however, that nobody else would see it her way.

“I like it here though,” the gold-eyed Jala added after a moment. “Everything’s very alive here, and of course the grass is good provided you don’t eat too much of it.” Was she showing off that she knew that? She hadn’t really meant to, but she’d been told that she sometimes came off that way. It had been a comment, no more, and she hoped that Vierna realized that.

“I haven’t ever been to Yisi,” the filly went on with a bob of her head for emphasis, “is it pretty there?” She had heard that it was, but once again more opinions were a good thing in her opinion. Everybody was biased, right? So if you talked to enough people, they’d be biased in different ways and if you were clever about it, you might just be able to pick out the real truth, if of course there was a real truth. Sometimes, she had found, things were very much just a matter of opinion.

Oh? Up north, eh? The valentines mare lifted her sturdy head to glance in that direction, having never really wandered too far up there herself, she wasn't quite sure what was up there. Herdlands, she had overheard a conversation before that had suggested herdlands were up there. Well hum, a quick glance around to either side and Vierna neither saw any Jala in any direction, so she supposed the filly really had come here all alone. Well, now this was a bit of a problem. As one could guess, there were all different kinds of people in D'ob no matter if the majority was nice or not. And she wouldn't exactly feel right parting company with the young thing knowing what she knew, yet she had been around the block with foals before. Heavens, not her own, but enough to know how they were. They wanted what they wanted, and they were subject to quick changes in temper very easily, and the last thing Vierna wanted to do was give this filly a bitter ending to their meeting. With a smile, the large Aeri mare concluded, "It must quite the adventure to come here all on your own, but I think I'll stick around until ya decide to go back on your own, Deary. It would surely put my mind at ease, to know you weren't out here by yourself while I wandered off."

Hopefully that would be alright, and even if it wasn't Vierna probably wouldn't wander off too far anyway. Last thing any parent wanted was to get word that a foal with a familar discription had been found and taken, or perhaps killed. Oh the gods and goddesses knew there were people out there like that, and unfortunatly D'ob wasn't immune to any of them.

However, she continued their little conversation, remembering the tidbit and the question she had been asked earlier. "Yisi is a very pretty place, nearly covered completely in water depending on what season you go there. Though, even if it isn't, there is tons of beautiful lakes, rivers, and streams. The only thing about Yisi though, is that the ground is always muddy and soggy. Makes for a big gal like myself to get around with great difficulty", and to prove this she lightly lifted one of her heavy forelegs to produce her round hoof. Quite the size too. "Bigger hooves makes for a harder time with the mud, that I found out after my first few visits to there."

Oh... shoot. Well, no matter, Vierna’s company was good company so far; it just meant that this particular adventure wouldn’t be very... adventurous.

“Okay,” the striped filly said with a smile and a wing shrug, “that’s fair enough.” It just meant that she’d have to be careful how she parted company from the mare to slip back. She herself was small and could sneak about without too much trouble. Vierna on the other hoof, with her large stature and her odd gait, stood out really rather well. Still, she would manage one way or the other no doubt.

“Yisi sounds pretty,” Sekhmet added once she had finished thinking about the problem of getting back unnoticed, “I’ll have to get my parents to take me there sometime.” Going all the way out to the crustal lands alone, she felt, was a bridge too far; her absence would definitely be noted if she was gone for that long. Oh well, if her sire and dam were not inclined to indulge her curiosity she would just have to wait until she was a grown mare and then go. Provided she was allowed to set hoof outside the herd’s territory that was.

Phew, that was good. The large mare gave a soft, almost charming smile at how the news had been taken so well. Surely it would do her good to be sure that young Sekhmet wouldn't be out here on her own, especially with how worrisome she was prone to being with foals. Ack, they always got themselves into trouble, that she had learned time and time again by her sister's little foaly, and the others that had been welcomed into the small social gathering of the Aeri 'family-herd' she had come from. Oh caris-tails and zrun-horns, she missed those days!

Unlike the foal, Vierna did not dwell any further on the issue of returning home or sneaking away, for her mind had unchallengingly slipped the subject to that of her adventures in Yisi with said social gathering of family members. "That'd be a good idea to have, 'specially since I was lucky my family had been with me when I went there the first time I set hoof in the soggy mudlands-" but the older mare caught herself before she slipped into one of those 'when I was young' kind of tales. Gracious did she hate listening to those as a filly, and even as a young mare! With a thorough shake of her curly mane she dipped her muzzle into an apologetic arch of the neck.

"'Xcuse that slip of the mind, I dun wish to bore ya with the stories of when I was young and adventureous. Just a bit of a habit I suppose, with how many years I have tucked away in that old brain of mine." Gosh, that could have wound up a great big bore, lucky her mind wasn't so far gone she couldn't catch such reminders of subject and past affilations with a certain situation.

Not that Vierna wouldn't have been happy to tell such a story.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 30, 2008 9:35 am

Sekhmet grinned and shook her head. “That’s okay, I know I always want to tell stories if I have them and grown-ups must have way more of them than me so that’s probably why you guys tell so many stories.” Made sense to her at any rate; the temptation to recount old adventures had to be quite strong. After all, if you didn’t think on them and describe them every so often you might forget and that wouldn’t be good at all.

So... A trip to Yisi with one or both of her parents (probably one given how well the pair got on sometimes, haha) and maybe with her brother and sister too. Then again, maybe she could look up on of her grown-up half siblings and get them to show her about, that could be fun; she didn’t get to see them all that often. Still, either way she would wangle a trip out that way in the end. Yisi sounded like it might be a good place for her to hide out if she ever did decide she needed to get away from the herd. Yes. Big wet Yisi until the heat was off, and then who knew where? Anywhere. Anywhere in Urin.

“So,” the gold-eyed filly smiled up at the elder Nequus, “did you want to tell me that story? I’m always happy to listen.” She had been told she was a good listener, and it was probably quite true. Watch, listen and learn; that way sometimes you got to learn from other people’s mistakes rather than making them yourself, and of course hearing of different places and people and customs was always a good thing. The more you knew, the further you could go in the world; right?

The larger mare smiled at the young one's willingness to listen to her story. She didn't have many close companions to talk to nowadays, and stories like this were just swimming around her head all day. Poor dears, great entertainment and no one to listen to them. With a happy snort and a toss of her head, the Aeri mare shifted her weight into a comfortable position, flicking her ears eagerly. "Thank ya darling, just let me get my thoughts settled and I'd be glad to tell you the story." A roll of her tongue against the top of her mouth, an odd c**k of her head, and finally the female was ready to speak.

"Twas when I had just become an adult myself, high on life and eager to do just about anything. My family: my grandfather who led us, mama and papa and my sister, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins were all grouped together ready for a little family get together at Yisi. It was a sort of vacation from D'ob, considering the winter had just past and we grew tired of the valley. I was off with my sister and we had just entered the marshy lands, when she dared me to go walking into one of the shallow lakes. Said I couldn't stand to get my feet wet," she winked a bit, snorting at the very thought of such a thing. "Now keep in mind I was about the same size as I am now, however, I suspect much leaner. I think. Can't really remember that. Anyway, being the prideful young mare I was I went trotting straight into the lake, what I didn't know is that the mud on the bottom was going to be knee deep. Thusly I got myself stuck in the mud and could hardly move, silly large feet of mine. My sister was still laughing at me, but soon enough we were both freaking out. Took my entire family to pull/push me out of that mud, and I don't dare step into a lake since," she spoke with a nod of finality, nearly trying to keep herself from her mare'ish giggles that would have gladly seeped out of her throat.
PostPosted: Thu May 22, 2008 9:21 am

Sekhmet grinned at the story, shaking her head as the mare finished speaking. “Wow, that sounds like no fun. Still, one of those things you laugh about later on I guess? I’ve had a few of those myself, like when I pushed my way into a bush to look for berries and managed to get myself trapped.” Giggling at the memory, Sekhmet shook her head again. “I thought nobody was ever going to find my at the time, but once my uncle pulled me out by the tail I saw the funny side.”

Hum. Uncle, thinking of him made her think of the rest of her family. When had she set out this morning, and how far had she come? She ought to be heading back soon or she’d be missed and that would be the end to her little trips out alone. She probably wouldn’t be able to persuade somebody to take her to see Yisi any time soon either. The gold-eyed filly sighed at this realization and turned her attention back to Vierna. Just as she’d made a friend too. Oh well, maybe she’d be able to see the big mare again some day.

“I should get going,” the black-winged Jala said eventually, reluctantly. “It was nice to meet you, Vierna niriture, I really liked talking to you but... well my parents will worry about me if I’m not home soon. Maybe I’ll see you again sometime?” the filly added hopefully, giving the Aeri another smile. “Like I say, it was really nice to meet you, so I’d like to meet you again. Maybe I’ll have had some more mishaps by then that I can tell you about or something... Yea.” It would be nice to consider the silvery-winged mare a friend. Even if she didn’t manage to run into her again, it was nice to have somebody else to put the label of friend to.

"Quite the tale to laugh at, I dare say. Gosh that was such an embarrising day", she spoke with a soft snort that ended in a little rumble of laughter from her throat. Though as the young one began to speak of her own misfortune, the large mare attempted to keep herself still, as she would have likely fumbled about with her feet in a filly'ish kind of way. "Heavens, thank goodness your uncle came to find ya!" Yes, it was rather funny to listen to, and she had said it with a smile, for the sheer thought of getting stuck in a berry bush sounded like something she would do. Well, rather, she'd get stuck with it between her legs and brushing up against her belly most likely.

The talk of family from the filly would have likely stung a bit for the valentines sweetheart, had she not already firmly decided not to dwell on it. They were gone, she was here, and some where out in this world her little Zaky was here as well. That was hope enough, and she would grasp it like a wild leaf to keep herself in such good moods.

"Oh, that's alright darling, I wouldn't want your family to worry over ya. It was very nice talking with you, and I would adore another meeting if we happen upon each other again." She finished that last part with a dip of her head towards the little filly, so she didn't seem like some tall tower talking to the wind. "I'll be sure to tell you of my own little adventures as well, if you like?" A soft smile, and the valentines mare didn't push her earlier stance on the subject of escorting the little one home. Naw, she'd stay right here and watch her just in case, but no need to impose on the other's journey home unless she needed to.
