(Stole the title from Zige, is so shameless heart )
Antony scowled, leaning against the wall of the school and folding his arms over his chest as he looked over the playground. Now that he was older it just seemed so childish to be stuck in recess. He should be doing something else, something productive! Or at least be allowed to go home!
But no, they were stuck in this schedule until there were more teens for a high school level set of classes. Or at least that's what he'd been told. Honestly he was sure his father was behind this, making him "have fun" again.
Not that the fair hadn't been a blast, but there was a difference between mile high roller coasters and... swings.

"Ahh, come on, you just going to stand there Antony?"
Riley had stopped just outside the door, lifting a hand to adjust her hat as her gaze slide sideways. She raised her eyebrows, giving him a pointed look. The one time they weren't doing work...and there he was, standing there as if it were torture! Man, she didn't understand him, but she never really had.
"We've been sitting in those desks all day," she scoffed, "And you aren't going to do a thing?"

"Teenagers aren't supposed to have recess," he said, looking irritable. "We should either get a study hall or be able to go home earlier. I finally get to the age that my father will let me go home by myself, and yet I'm still stuck here."
In other words, he was so irritated that he was willing to complain aloud.

"And standing there is really going to solve that problem," Riley rolled her eyes. And she hardly agreed with him. "I just don't get you, Antony, you'd rather be working then out here?" she shook her head, her disbelief obvious. How strange!
"Well, I'm going to enjoy myself," Riley insisted before striding past him. If he wanted to be the defination of dull that his loss. She went over to the swings, the nearest piece of equipment, and flopped into the nearest seat. Her knees had to bend her legs backwards to fit, since her feet already touched the ground. But hey. You were never too old for the swings. Ever.

He followed her, not sure why he was, but he did it anyways. "This is not fun. Fun is--is--" He flushed ever so slightly. "Roller coasters and other such things," he admitted as he sat on the swing next to hers. His legs were too long for the short little swing, and bent so his knees were on level with his chest.

"Come on," she looked over at him seriously, "Everyone loves the swings. Fact o' life." She then leaned back, pushing her feet against the ground so that she began to tilt back. When her feet were straight she let out, letting her body move with her seat through the air. She tucked her legs under when it reached the point where she was too tall and kicked off at the front and back, giving herself the momentum to go higher.
"Though..." she murmured, her voice moving back and forth as she did, "I do agree. I love roller coasters! Shame Manny doesn't...we went a while ago and she didn't like any of those rides." Another thing she never quite understood. Whatev.

He went still, his face a mask that was hard to read. "Manny," he repeated. "Have you seen her recently?" he asked, wondering if he should even bother. Manny hated him, no doubt, and had ever since that scene at Harper's funeral. But the honest truth was, she had been making it into a spectacle.
"Were you even there for Harper's memorial?" he asked, trying to remember.

"Of course I went!" Riley snapped in ill temperment, clearly offended by the implication. That and she was still resolving mixed feelings over Harper's death. Sure, she had channeled most of her emotion into the day of the funeral, but even letting her emotions flow she wasn't over it just yet. It wasn't something you forgot or swept under the carpet, at least not with her.
"Vic made me leave early," she ground out, apparently still not understanding that her elder brother knew her all too well. If he hadn't removed her from the area the trashed state of her room would have been the funeral home instead. And curing at the deceased was not encouraging to the mourners. He had wisely let her vent at home instead of impacting the grieving process of others.
Crickling her nose to show her continuing miffed feelings she replied bluntly, "No, I haven't seen anyone outside of school since then."
(( Making implied actions for the funeral, siiinnnceee I kind of dropped out due to school being heavy and such. xD; Plus Vic would have done that anyway, I never really planned on having her speak. ))

He stayed silent for a moment, rocking on the swing slightly as his mind rushed. "Things have changed," he said finally, since that was the only thing that came to mind. "I don't know whether it's for the best or not."
Their little "trio" group was blown to pieces, never to be recovered. At least he was sure about that. But it brought up the question, after all that had changed, what was the point of even talking about it?

"It doesn't matter what we think," Riley grumbled, seeming a bit irrate at the idea of being, in a way, helpless. That was probably one of the things she hated the most. Being able to do nothing...it drove her mad. Anything was better than nothing.
"We can't stop it...or change it back...or whatever," she grunted, giving the ground a hard kick and pushing herself higher into the air.

He nodded, watching the younger kids play on the playground for a moment before speaking again. "It won't be long before we're older," he said. "Which means moving out and getting a job. Have you thought of anything?"

"Hell no!" She replied, looking indignant. She leaned back in the swing as it moved, getting a feeling of height and motion. She was too tall to hang upsidedown, but this almost gave the same sort of feeling.
"That's way too far off," she insisted, her voice growing softer and louder as she moved back and forth, "I'm not going to worry myself 'bout all that stuff right now, I mean, come on. Enjoy life a little." Adulthood was extremely far away in her mind. But then, she had never been one to look ahead. Living in the moment was more her forte'.

Antony rolled his eyes, inwardly snorting. But she had a point, he thought reluctantly. With the way Harper had died so soon after becoming a teen, there was always the chance they'd never reach adulthood. It was especially obvious to him when Death hung over his shoulder on a regular basis.
He couldn't think of anything he wanted to do, though, he thought a little irritably. "So in other words, you don't know what you want to do."

Riley shook her head, swaying a little as she let the motion of the swing slow a little. She looked at him with that insane grin of hers replying with gritty enthusiasm, "Why decide now? Hell, there's so much to choose from! Could be a triathalon runners, or a cop, or a pilot, or a mountain climber-!" Obvious she took the sky's the limit to heart. Whether or not she thought she could actually do those careers was besides the point. She simply knew that when she did decide what she wanted to persue she'd let nothing stop her.
She let her feets skid against the ground, bringing the swing to an awkward halt that nearly forced her out of the seat. Steady again, she asked him pointedly, "Don't you think?"

"Hmm," he said rather than reply. There was a wicked little idea playing in his mind, one that he wasn't quite sure how it had gotten there. There was a job he could do, he thought. He had seen several TV shows about it before.
But that would mean letting people know about his secret.
Of course another option was working for the school, or going to college and becoming something professional. He would be a good lawyer, he thought blandly. Or even a judge.
