It had felt like an eternity since she had last spoken to anyone relatively normal. None of her acquaintances were even remotely close to sane, and it was upsetting. Though admittedly, she had not shook very many paws; because rules said that she should keep away from strangers. Strangers were dangerous. Or rather, they could be. Potential danger, she believed it was called; and she was in no mood to even relate to those dumb blondes in the movies. She would settle for being called 'Goody-Two-Shoes' as opposed to getting a stake through her brain any day, thank you very much.
It had been a long while since the kit had held a conversation that lacked awkwardness - and now was a time more than ever when she wished one of her siblings, or parents - someone she knew was okay to be near - was present.
She lay on a rock, her mind questioning whether or not such a place was sanitary enough for her. Dirt caking on the surface, insects crawling or fluttering thoughtlessly around her, and heaven's know what else. Madeline clawed at the stone beneath her, eyes inspecting the surroundings wordlessly. Sun bathing was certainly difficult without sunshine.

Elric was running. From what or to where he was no longer sure. Something had spooked him during his little adventure near home and it had been so utterly unexpected that he'd simply turned tail and run for safety. Always possessed of a great deal of energy, the little had run for a long time, absorbed in the act and had forgotten just why was running.
Flicking tails about and peering through the little meadow he'd happened upon, Elric dropped onto his belly and inched forward, curiosity piqued once again. It seemed things went in cycles with this little one, investigate, run, come back and investigate again. Ah well, he enjoy the thrill of the unexpected far more then he'd let on.
When an itch grabbed his attention, he leaned up against one of the thicker stalks of the bush he was in and rubbed the spot on his shoulder, smiling as little leaves came filtering down through the branches. Someone had said there would be berries soon... would that mean it would rain berries instead if he were to do this? Idly, he pondered the question, sneezing as a leaf settled onto his muzzle and irritated his nose.

First came the rustling of a nearby bush - and she was uncertain as to whether or not she should run, or perhaps inspect the area around the green to see what could possibly make such a racket. Then came sneezing, and she contemplated for a moment whether or not it was familiar. Instinct told her to turn the direction opposite of the noise, and flee. But her mind told her differently, and so Madeline went towards the berry-less thing. She examined both it and its surroundings thoughtfully, her eyes wide and curious before finally they came to a rest upon familiar coloring, a familiar face, a familiar kit. Three tails began to wag simultaneously; and she was perpetually amazed that he was capable of summoning up enough courage to wander about on his own. Her dearest sibling; her dearest brother; "Elric~" The kit cooed delightedly.
He looked tired. Tired, and inquisitive, and overall like himself. This, she decided gleefully, was a good thing; and she was happy so see the non-stranger, non-danger face of family.
Her nose wrinkled, and the young female canted her head to the side childishly. "What are you doing, you silly goose?" She hopped towards him on small paws, lightly tapping down; it was when she was right before him that she discontinued the forward movement, looking him over momentarily before speaking again, "You're all filthy, El! What have you been doing, rubbing against the dirty trees? Rolling on the ground? Do mama and papa know you're out here?"
Truth be told, she was not either of his parents - far from it, obviously. She was his sister. And so she should not be quite so protective. And nagging a little less would do her justice.

He froze as his name was called out, not recognizing the voice at first. With big round eyes he looked out of the bush only to find himself face to face with his sibling. "Eep!" He cried out despite the recognition and bounced back. Her sudden appearance had startled the little male, his breathing ragged for a moment. "Don't scare me!" Elric tossed his head and brushed his bangs with a paw before looking at her once more.
Ears drooped at the barrage of questions as he fidgeted, gaze upon the ground now. "Nothing... nothing at all...." Much like a child caught in the midst of doing something they shouldn't be, Elric was unable to make eye contact and held about his the very obvious air of 'guilty'. But guilty of what? Perhaps it was simply her protective manner that sparked this instant guilt....?
"Whatdya want, sis?" He asked after a moment, glancing at her from the corner of his eye, "I'm not doing anything wrong.... but. Don't tell mama and papa I'm here?" He didn't want them to worry... they did not, in fact, have any idea of where he was - he'd simply followed a daydream out into the forest near where they called home and... he shivered. That shadow wasn't supposed to have been there. He'd been dreaming, not following something real.
Flicking tails as he finally glanced up to meet her gaze, he smiled crookedly, "What are you doing out here? Hnnn?" A counter question ought to help him out a little.... right?

She did not entirely know how to answer the question; because Madeline had no idea exactly what it was she was doing out here. Admiring the flowers? Had she strayed and gotten herself lost? No, it was neither of those. Then, what exactly was it? Perhaps that she was looking to sunbathe - or maybe even befriend a couple of companionable lizards. Lizards were neat; much safer than other Kitsu. Of this, she was positive. But then, lizards were certainly more frightening than Elric - so she supposed it depended solely on the Kitsu in question. A bite at her lip, innocent eyes looking her brother over more before she decided to reply: "I was looking to soak myself in some sunshine on that rock over there." She gestured with her paw towards the place of which she had been lying only moments ago, "But - the sunshine went away, and so I was going to leave. Then I heard you, and low and behold: dundundunDUN ~ here you are." Madeline offered a gentle smile. "Question is what you are actually doing out here; it certainly doesn't seem like nothing at all..."
She frowned, however, and moved on: "But I suppose it isn't much of my business, really. And I promise not to tell Mama and Papa. Paw-Promise. Extra-Duper Promise with more promise on top. Like whipped cream and a cherry, except - you know... promise."
Then, that was beside the point, "But you have to make sure to be careful, El - or else the Paw-Promise will be blown to smithereens. Therefore, promise me that you'll try and be careful? I don't want you getting into any trouble just 'cause you're - you know - curious and the whats. I mean, stay away from big, mean-looking animals; stay away from big, mean-looking Kitsu. And another rule before you go running off or anything is that I'm tagging along. Definitely tagging along. Or else you'll go off by yourself, ignore the rules, get into trouble, and I'll have to fess that I saw you and let you run off - and then I'll get in trouble."
It wasn't necessarily concern for herself; rather she'd not want to see her brother injured in the first place. Then there was the small factor that she needed something to do, and this was a good excuse to be around someone she knew, who she trusted.
