Jasiri yawned, and pulled himself away from the heap that was his seven other siblings. Restraining a giggle, he tiptoed out of his family's den. He wasn't sure why he was being so entirely sneaky, when his mother had given him permission to go out early today. Nevertheless, he continued his stealthy maneuvers until he was clear from the den. The young cub took in a deep breath of fresh air, and with a flick of his tail he was off on a walk.

The sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon as he started his journey. He promised he would be back by nightfall, and not try to get into much trouble, but he didn't know where he was going. He hadn't been out much by himself, and being only a cub he didn't quite know his way around yet. Without much worrying on his part, he continued his stroll. If there was one thing Jasiri wanted, it was to meet some more lions of the pride. So far, he really only knew is parents and brothers and sisters.

As a rule, Riko generally avoided the general direction of his nephew's den since Intombi had come back, still quite unimpressed with the whole situation Habu had gotten himself into. However, he really did not have any friends other than Wahabu, and part of him wanted to talk about his little trip away to look for Kiwi. Partly to brag, partly to say what conclusion he had come to because of it. It was early enough that he figured he might manage to catch someone without catching all of them, though he was still too reluctant to make a direct path towards the den. Instead he chose to wander in the distance thoughtfully.

Deciding to throw his family off of a predictable trail, he made a sharp turn, and began zigzagging to spread his scent around. If he wanted to journey without his family members, he was going to have to make sure they couldn't find him today. Without paying much attention the little blue male suddenly ran into the leg of a lion that looked slightly younger than his father. "Uhh-" Jasiri looked over the male; the cream colored fur, with the pink accents was an interesting combination, and something he had never seen before. Without wasting much time Jasiri began to question this older lion, "SO! Who are you? And what do you think gives you the right to kick me when you want to?" Jasiri rubbed his head trying to ease the pain from the collision with the other lion's leg. The little cub was full of pride, and there was no way he was going to let word get out that he ran into someone's leg.

Riko stumbled when suddenly a cub ran headfirst into his leg, and he just about cursed aloud but managed to bite it back. He looked down when he regained his balance to find himself face to face with a cub very reminiscent of his own younger brother Kialio. Before he could even consider the idea that his brother might have little ones running around, though, he realized the cub had spots on his shoulder and stripes on his legs. No, this was obviously one of the cubs Intombi had brought back with her.

He wasn't quite sure how to react right away, wrinkling his nose as the cub rubbed his head after accusing his uncle of kicking him.

"I'd get your facts straight before going around accusing others of stuff, kid" he said finally, deciding to try being nice enough. Cub couldn't be blamed that his mother was so .. well, Intombi.

Jasiri sighed when the adult was going to be annoying, and stick by the actual truth of what happened. He wasn't weak, Jasiri was determined and wouldn't give up a battle this easily. "Well! Excuse me, mister, but my facts are straighter than yours!" Frustrated, Jasiri began pacing back and forth not really wanting to deal with this all anymore. So, he decided that he was going to forget it all ever happened.

Acting like a sweeter cub, Jasiri began to speak, "Hello, my name is Jasiri'Maji. You are?" He didn't really feel like he had lost the battle by changing the subject, so he continued on like nothing ever happened. "So, do you have a mate or any cubs or anything?" Jasiri was curious if this rude lion, was a father, and if he was, he felt sorry for his cubs.

Riko was rather oblivious to his own stubbornness, but he was not too thick to notice it in the small cub. It was rather amusing, though, so he didn't worry about it. Especially when the cub suddenly turned around and acted very nice and introduced himself properly.

"So they have taught you some manners," he commented, almost sounding surprised (intentionally, taking a small jab at Intombi though he wasn't dumb enough to tell the cub that) and then he snorted at the very blunt question, "My name is Mafuriko, and no I don't have any mate or cubs."

Jasiri was puzzled with the older lion's statement. "They?" It sounded as if this male knew his parents, but he couldn't be quite sure yet. He was also confused on why Riko laughed when he asked about having a mate or cubs. Jasiri still thought that the number of cubs one had determined the lion's place in society, or maybe even their intelligence. Since his father had eight cubs, that must make his father pretty important, but this Riko on the other hand...

Jasiri decided to ask him about it. "Well, I have a question. My mother told me once that the royals had a litter of nine cubs. My own parents had a litter of eight, and you don't have any. I wonder, does the size of your family determine what your place in society is?" Not wanting to aggravate the lion again, Jasiri quickly tried to comfort Riko. "Don't worry, it's probably not ALL your fault you've never had a litter. Ms. Right just hasn't shown up yet, has she?

Riko could have laughed in Jasiri's face but was surprisingly well controlled when he described his theory on the hierarchy of the Pridelands. He'd known about the number of cubs the queen had, and how many Intombi and Habu had- but he'd never thought to make a connection to it. There were a hell of a lot of cubs around the Pridelands, it would be quite the competition indeed if number of cubs were an indication of status.

"It doesn't work like that," he said with a chuckle, "Haven't your parents explained? Aside from the royal family, everyone is supposed to be equal here. Some just happen to be better than others. I, personally, don't need a 'Miss Right'- I'm happy how things are."

Jasiri tilted his head slightly as Riko explained the hierarchy of the pride. Personally, Jasiri didn't think it was very fair that everyone was supposed to be equal. Well, it was technically fair, but not in the way that Jasiri was trying to get ahead of his other siblings. Frustrated, he let out another sigh, and took in what Riko said. "Oh." The cub rolled onto the ground, and began thinking. "Wait a second. You don't want to be mated and have cubs?" Jasiri was thoroughly confused, since it seemed like his parents were happy with being parents.

Curious on what Riko said about some people being better than others, he wondered if Riko meant him, Jasiri. "Soooo Riko, do you know any of these people who seem to be better than everyone else?" Jasiri certainly wanted to meet one of these people, and learn how they earned their reputation.

"I have no particular desire or need to," Riko replied with a shrug when Jasiri continued to question him about having a mate and cubs, "It doesn't matter though, I'm young enough that if I really wanted to change my mind I could. I suppose it would be a shame if I never had any little me's running around." He almost laughed, imagining how deprived the world would be without him continuing his lineage. He had plenty of family, though, it might not be such a loss.

"Of course, I'm on of the best," he said without any hesitation.

Jasiri rolled his eyes and let Riko win this one. He wasn't going to push the subject of him having a family. Although it wouldn't be the best thing if there were more of him running around, because then there would just be more legs to run into. "Okay..."

With a flick of his tail, Jasiri stood up, and began to wonder if his parents had ever heard of this Riko. "Have you ever met my parents, Riko? Their names are Wahabu and Intombi." The reason behind all of this was that Jasiri wanted to ask his parents about how great this Riko really was when he got home.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 15, 2008 3:07 pm

Riko almost couldn't contain himself when Jasiri asked if he knew his parents, and quickly he realized that none of the eight could have looked even a little like him or Jasiri might have caught on. Riko and Habu certainly didn't look much alike, so he wasn't terribly surprised- maybe a bit disappointed, now that he realized it.

"Yes, I know your parents," he nodded, "Wahabu is my nephew, I'm surprised he hasn't mentioned me! I'm his favorite uncle." Riko refused to believe otherwise, and was probably the only uncle that was relatively close to Habu so he figured it couldn't be false anyway.

Jasiri was glad to know that Riko was related to him, so thatt all his mistakes like running into his leg wouldn't get out to the public. If there was thing he needed to do, it was to ask his father about his family. Jasiri had no idea his father had an uncle. "Oh, so I guess that makes you my great uncle." Smiling impishly, he realized this made Riko sound older than her was. "Well, I better get going, see you later Great Uncle Riko."

The young blue cub stood up, and began walking in the direction of his den. He hadn't really covered a lot of ground on this journey, but he certainly did meet some interesting people. Pleased with his overall effort today, he began his walk home cheerfully, wanting to do some more exploring tomorrow.

Contrary to what Jasiri might have thought, Riko was quite pleased to officially have the word 'great' somewhere in his name, title or relationship with someone else. He definitely would not complain about that! It just fit, really. "So it does," he agreed with a grin.

He was surprised when the cub suddenly decided it was time to leave, wondering about why and at the same time glad he wasn't going to be clung to or anything. He had to admit, Jasiri didn't seem too bad despite Intombi being his mother. Had to be Habu's genes.

"Tell your father I said hello," he called after the cub, and decided not to go to visit Habu himself today. Jasiri was enough 'fun' for the morning.
