It was just another pleasant day on the savanna. The sun shone, peeking through the smattering of light, fluffy clouds. The birds sang, and a gentle breeze kept the heat from becoming overwhelming.
Atop a large rock formation sat a silvery wild dog, her curly tresses half obscuring her blue-grey eyes. A smile seemed to be permanently painted on her face as she observed ten small figures on the grass near the formation. A few were tousling, one or two were napping, and there was currently a game of hide and go seek in play, various youngsters joining or quitting without notice.
Bem chuckled as she gazed out lovingly on her children. Raising ten sure was tiring, but she couldn't complain. She was happy, truly happy. She had her lovely gentleman Horatio, and ten lovely pups. And besides, what was life without some hectic adventure?!

Horatio was never far away from his family and he returned quietly now bringing with him a large warthog. It was his favourite for hunting at the moment, plenty of meat, plenty of fat for growing pups. He placed the beast on the ground and stretched as he hopped over the crowding youngsters to go and join his mate his tail in the air and a smile on his maw.
Wagging his tail he clambered on up the rocky formation and smiled to Bem. "It's good they are easy to feed." He chuckles licking his ladies ears with a gentle tongue. "How are you feeling today?" He raised a gentle, curious brow. he was always concerned for Bem, worried thats eh may be over doing it. Having ten pups to watch and feed wasn't easy, he could hunt sure, but Bem, he felt, was doing all the hard work.

Bem smiled and giggled as the youngsters tore into the warthog. She nuzzled Horatio, giving him a gentle lick.
"I'm a bit tired," she admitted. "But nothing I can't handle. After giving birth to them, everything else seems relatively easy."
She chuckled. It had been difficult, birthing ten pups, especially for her first time. She was grateful however, that there had been no complications and that all of the pups had been born alive and healthy. Even little Althea, the youngest, could run and play with the rest of them.
"They really aren't too hard to handle. I can keep an eye on them from up here, and they certainly are easy to feed."

The big male dog sat slowly his tail wagging slowly and brushing gently up against Bem. "They are good pups. " He whispers admireing the ten furry bundles. Each had a mind, a personality of their own and he loved them all equally.
"They'll soon be growing and trying to get away." He chuckled lightly. He knew full well that the pups would not stay in one spot, it just wasn't possible really. The land, though it could support them all, certainly didn't provide for their needs. He knew his children would one day want mates and children of their own. Their family, as far as he knew was the only one in the area.
"Thats a blessing to say the least." He chuckled nuding Bem's cheek softly.

Bem nodded, a trace of wistfulness in her eyes. She knew that most, if not all of the pups would grow up and have mates and pups of their own, but she prayed that a few stayed. She knew one thing, though. None of them we're going anywhere until they were a bit older.
She flipped her curly hair out of her eyes, her oldest habit. She noticed that none of the pups seemed to have inherited her curly mane and she was somewhat grateful for that on their behalf. It was pretty, but sure did get in her eyes a lot.
She nestled up against Horatio, enjoying the warmth and closeness. "Yeah," she said softly. "But for now, I'm glad that they're so young and we can just watch them play."
It was a very serene moment, and of course, destined to not last, for at that moment, one of the cubs decided to see how high she could jump off a rock.
"Althea," Bem called out sharply with a scolding stare. The pup sighed but complied with her mother's wishes. Bem returned to her comfortable pose with a sigh.

Horatio smiled. he knew what Bem was thinking. Perhaps the pups would return here, with their mates and families, perhaps they would become a real pack one day on this land of his ancestors, but today was not that day, today was just a day to sit and watch the youngsters play int he sun.
He chuckled as Althea padded down off the large rock at her mothers instructions his soft, golden eyes sparkling. "Adventure is in their blood Bem. They have to make mistakes to learn their way." He raised a brow at his mate. He didn't want to see the pups get hurt either, but it was a good way of learning.
If you jumpped of a big rock and hurt your paw it was a lesson not to do it again.

Bem looked up, startled at his words. But after a moment, her face softened and her shoulders relaxed. She gave a small smile.
"You're right. They certainly could stand to learn a lesson or two about heights... and water.... and bugs...."
She chuckled. The pups had gotten into a lot of things, ever stubborn in their curiosity. She never wanted to see any of them even get a scratch. But she could be too protective of them, and that would make life for them as adults harder.
She grinned at Horatio. "Is it tiring, always being right?" she teased good-naturedly.

Horatio smiled lightly at his silver pelted mate. "You know we will always be around them to watch them my love, and falling is a way to learn to pull yourself back up." He grinned playfully and licked at her ears his honey glazed eyes smiling. "I have only been right since I met you Bem." He smiled lightly.
Streching out his front paws the pale wild dog let a yawn roll off his lips and his tail wagged lightly. "It can be exhausting yes." He grinned playfully and leapt to his paws playfully batting at Bem like a very large puppy.

Bem grinned, her eyes twinkling with mirth as she stood quickly. She cast a quick glance over her shoulder at the pups before batting back at her mate, giggling playfully. She enjoyed the exercise. After having carried ten pups for such a long amount of time, being able to move with any amount of speed was a refreshing change of pace.
Having to race after ten pups had helped her regain her well-toned physique, and her strength.

Horatio yapped happily skidding about like a large puppy. It was clear it had been a long time since he played so freely but he was gaining that puppy nature back with each passing day, with each roll and tustle with his ten children. He loved it. It had been so long since he had been able to just play and laugh and be simply joyful.
"I love you Bem." He grinned, his voice as rough and gentle as usual as he pounced at his lady and licked her ears his paws gently laying on her shoulders. "This land was so dead without you , just look at all the life you have braught it."

Bem giggled like a giddy youngster and nuzzled Horatio. Dear Horatio. Her light. Her world.
"And I love you, dear one. We brought life to this land together. And here we shall keep it!"
She grinned and flipped the curls out of her eyes. She loved her life and was so grateful for everything she had received. She couldn't ask for more.

Horatio smiled nuzzling his mate softly. It had been a strange begining for them but now things seemed to be settled, the world was looking up and his life could not be better.
He tried not to think to hard about the fact that his pups must grow and some fo them would leave, that things may happen to them, but that was in the future, not now, for now he could enjoy watching the small pups raceing around, enjoying the world and life as they knew it. Life was good.
He stretched out his long body and yawned doggishly. "Care to take a nap in the sun with me my dear" he raised a roguish brow and sprawled out on the large rock with all four paws spread eagled in a comical fashion.

The same bittersweet thoughts circled through Bem's mind as she watched her pups. She knew that no matter how old they grew, they'd always be her babies and she would always be said to see them grow up and leave. But they needed to be able to choose their own life. She would learn to be okay with it.
For now she grinned at Horatio and laughed. "That sounds absolutely delightful," she said.
She flopped next to him and cuddled her back into his warm side.

Horatio yawned and tirned his muzle to rest over bems shoulders. "Peace liek this can only come once in a life time, best to enjoy it while we can." hesmiled wistfully and closed his golden eyes, he was ready for a short nap haveing hunted and played.
he knew that time would pass and the world would change once again but not today, today was just a eprfect day resting int he sunshine, their puppies playing int he ehat and his mate pressed gently to his side. it was the perfect day.

Bem chuckled as she watched two of their youngsters tousle in the grass. She remembered doing that when she was younger. But she and her parents were always on the move, so she never kept friends for long. That didn't bother her too much, though. It was nice to know that wherever she went, she had old friends she could visit. In her then young mind, the world was small, and full of people she knew.
Silver eyes wandered off into the distance as she thought back. It seemed so long ago. Now she was here, with a mate and a family of their own. The pregnancy had been...an experience. Truth be told, she was glad it was over, but she wouldn't rule out cubs in the future. She knew that before long, their current brood would be grown and off making lives of their own.
But she'd enjoy it while it lasted. "So, if one of us is going to take a nap, the other better stay up and watch the pups," she said with a grin, nudging Horatio in the side.
She knew he was tired, though, so she was happy to take the turn to watch the pups. She just liked to tease.
