I just wanted people to critisize my theory, and see what they think of it.

Thoery:

God created man to be like him, thus we should have had powers like his, or at least somewhat similar, however in the down fall, we lost those abilities. In our time, we can only use 10% of our brain. I thus belief that the other 90% were lost during the downfall, and that those lost 90% control our supernatural abilities. If we can somehow tap into that 90%, we can have supernatural abilities, but the only way to tap into it is with God's help.

Might work, but for the fact that the 'only ten percent' claim is just a common myth with no basis in reality. Now, I'm stronger with my rationalism than my biblical interpretation, but it's also worth noting that there's nothing in the bible that implies that humans ever had any prelapsarian supernatural powers, and given the lack of positive scriptural evidence of said powers, it seems safer to assume that, in this case, absence of evidence is evidence of absence.

I've also heard that the 10% is a myth - besides, our brains are like libraries - if all of our "books" were out and open we would have clutter. Memories are stored until they are needed.

I do think we definitely 'lost' some of ourselves in the fall - but I think it would be more in the line of understanding others. The story of Babel certainly might imply that when we all spoke one language awesome things could be accomplished - Now even speaking the same language it's very easy to be misunderstood!

Side note: As a musician I read one study that showed that we use more of our brains when playing and listening to music than at any other time!

Their knowledge of sin was forever changed. Adam and Eve went from knowing sin like a doctor knows a cancer, to knowing sin like a patient knows cancer. They became infected without remedy, which is the significance of the promise in Gen 3:15 that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the seed of the serpent.

If anything, they lost what God warned them about: "...of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die." (Gen 2:17 [WEB], emphasis mine) -- They lost their eternal physical life, and became spiritually dead in sin.

They immediately died spiritually, and without access to the tree of life (Ge 3:24), had begun the process of dying physically. There is no Scriptural support for Adam and Eve losing more than their lives and their home in paradise (in addition to the curses found in Gen 3:16-17).

That said, I do believe that people who lived before the flood were physically in better shape than people even a couple of hundred years after the flood. The extra long lifespans are evidence of that. But that has more to do with physical environmental conditions, and not changing human physiology.

I concur with Tarrou that there is no Biblical evidence that humans (barring demonic possession) have ever had any supernatural powers.

What about Moses, Samson and people like them? I know, they were touched by the spirit of God, but couldn't that touch somehow trigger that lost ability?

Samson seems an odd choice to bring up as having any special gifts (besides strength). He was not the most insightful or wise person in the Bible. He made a lot of mistakes! He trusted the wrong people, instead of remembering that his gifts came from God. I think he's a wonderful example of how God can use ALL of us - in spite of our flaws!

I agree. There was nothing special about Samson except that he was dedicated to God from before birth (Judges 13:7), chosen by God to be a judge for Israel (Judges 13:25), and then turned his back on God (Judges 16:17) until just before he met his end in Judges 16:30.

Moses lived to be 120 years old, and was in perfect health when God took him (Deu 34:7). Though that is extraordinary--even for the people at the time--I believe that it was God that preserved him. ...I'm not sure exactly what to cite as super-human about Moses...

In every case, people with super-human abilities were directly influenced by either the Holy Spirit (God) or else by demonic possession. A good example of the latter is the Maniac of the Gaderenes, found in Mark chapter five.

In verses 3 and 4 we are told that he could not be bound, and in fact, would break the chains and fetters that people would attempt to hold him with. However, after Jesus cleansed him of the spirits, this man--who would spend the nights screaming and cutting himself--was found "clothed, and in his right mind" (Mk 5:15). Once the demons were gone from him, so were his powers.

I have found no example of any super-human feat that was performed without the influence of either God or a demon/Satan. In every instance, once the influence was taken away, the benefits of that influence went with it.

Well, that's exactly what I said in my theory, if you cared to read it, that the powers can only be tapped with Gods help, but I never thought of Demons.

Yes, demons can do some strange things. But this has nothing to do with the physiology of the person who is possessed.

Now to directly address your theory:
Chipi427
Thoery:
God created man to be like him, thus we should have had powers like his, or at least somewhat similar,
This would seem to be a false premise. God created us in His image:
Quote:
God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...
Gen 1:26a (WEB)
Being built in someone's image is not quite the same as being built to be like that person, and having their abilities. I agree that we do share a lot of basic attributes with God. We have emotion, so does God. We have three parts (Body, Mind, Spirit), and so does God (Father, Son, Spirit).

If I were to make a sculpture in my image with my likeness, does that mean that it could possibly have the same abilities that I do?

Chipi427
however in the down fall, we lost those abilities.
If the first premise cannot be proven, then this statement would be false. If we had no powers to begin with, then we could not have lost them.

What Biblical evidence can you cite that we as a human race ever had such abilities in the first place?

Chipi427
In our time, we can only use 10% of our brain.
This statement was refuted in an earlier post by Tarrou. Since this statement is false, how could the conclusion on which it is based be true?

Chipi427
I thus belief that the other 90% were lost during the downfall, and that those lost 90% control our supernatural abilities. If we can somehow tap into that 90%, we can have supernatural abilities, but the only way to tap into it is with God's help.
Again, if we have lost nothing, then the rest cannot be true.

I can see how you came to the conclusions that you did, but when a theory is not based on fact, then it is bound to be discredited. 1) We never had powers to lose, and 2) We currently utilize all of our brain for one thing or another.

Even if you could back your side of #1 up with a Biblical reference, you will have a hard time proving #2.

Hmmmmm.........Good point.
