Bramble tip-toed out of the forest. He looked to the left, to the right, and then back to the left. The young colt did not search for predators... no, he was not afraid of those flying beasts... he searched for his father. Thistle was a good pa, but he wanted some freedom. The others got it, so why shouldn't he?

This was the first time Bramble had actually succeeded (as far as he knew) to get away and stay away.

The sky was overcast, for spring had taken control of the area. Most of the snow was gone, though some lingered in the shadows -when the sun is out- of the trees. Bramble knew his father would not be out today, the air was too bothersome on his flimsy wings. The colt was glad that although he couldn't fly he did not have to worry about them.

The colt took one step out. His short mane ruffled in the ever so light breeze. Another step followed, and before he knew it Bramble was frolicking in the field. Dirt was kicked up and splattered that white coat of his. There was very little grass and defiantely no flowers - though the only flowers he had seen so far were the small scrappy things in the desert's edge.

All Bramble cared about in that moment was running and getting nice and dirty!

There are presently two other figures inhabiting the would-be-grassy plain. At least, two other equine figures; one of them appears to have just discovered there are in fact creatures of other persuasions milling about. It's obviously young, and even more blatantly inexperienced, but the only one who seems bothered is the squirrel it has accidentally interrupted. The small mammal has what seems to be a nut clenched between both its forepaws, and it chatters something presumably irritable at its pale, very bewildered offender before turning, giving an indignant flick of its fluffy tail, grasping its prize with its teeth, and scurrying back into what little underbrush it can find.

Stunned into a brief moment of silent confusion, the colt blinks, then turns his pale gaze on the matching eyes of his companion. "It didn't have to go and do that," he remarks unabashedly, a hint of childish pouting edging in.

"Sometimes," the elder starts, passing Ashlan an amused glance as he moves on, trusting the foal to follow. "Others prefer to enjoy their meal in peace."

Ashlan in turn trots a few strides to close the distance between them, and keeps pace at the other's side, at least for the moment. His eyes are wayward, and the way he keeps turning his head whenever something catches his interest suggests he may not stay here for long.

Kael takes the opportunity, however brief, to lean close and whisper. "Or maybe he worried you would take his prize."

The foal gives him a speculating stare, looking hard for a moment. And then his seriousness melts; he flashes a devious grin, belying his approval of this reasoning as he bounds a few steps away, kicking up a small spray of dirt. Ashlan pauses abruptly a few moments later though, his ears pricked attentively forward, and his eyes perhaps a little wider than he'd like to realize. It's a look Kael knows will give way shortly to excitement, if only from experience, and he counters the anticipation with a knowing smile, then alters his path toward the object of Ashlan's curiosity.

The little mustang does not wait for him; he tears ahead a few moments later, testing the air with his tiny nose and scouring the horizon as he goes, trying to pick out the source of the scuffling. It's a task that proves easier than he'd first expected; try as he might, the white colt is not yet mud-caked enough to make him indiscernible. In fact, he stands out rather badly against their mostly-brown backdrop, and Ashlan has an easy time of heading toward him at a jovial trot.

Bramble rolled happly and obliviously. He rubbed his neck along the ground even more - brown and dirty! That was the way to be, at least for now. He didn't blend in as well into the field (at least not when compared to the snow). One more round, and the colt rolled to the other side. Pleased, Bramble struck out his front feet and the hoisted himself to his feet.

A shake here and a wiggle there, and the excess chunks of mud fell back to the ground.

But by the time he was up and about, Bramble could see that there was someone coming near, and fast. The colt pricked forward to watch. For a split second, he thought maybe he should run back to the teepee... but then he saw it was another colt and he was with someone that looked like he could be a parent.

Bramble whinnied in greeting, and then kicked up his own heels to meet up with them. How delightful! Another soquili his age out and about this area.
