Bored.
Was she bored? Um...yes. Bored. Bored. Bored.
She had no idea where her sister was, or her brother for that matter, though she didn't really miss him so much. She did miss her sister, however, and now she was lying on her belly by the stream, watching the water babble and gurgle as it played with the currents.
She sighed, rested her head on her paws and flicked her tail to rustle the grass around her.
She was getting bigger, though not by much. Really Ainra was a pretty average girl. Average colours, average height, average weight. There was nothing special about her what-so-ever, though it didn't really bother her that much.
She didn't know enough lions to feel jealous so she was content with life, so long as there were others around her. She needed budding company to keep her happy.
With a yawn, she raised her head shook it and blinked blearily into the gloomy day.

Unlike Ainra, Tiruan was anything but bored.
Ever since his initial meeting with the young lioness, the male had been researching. He wanted to know about every game that children played, how they played it, and what one had to do to win. It wasn't that he really wanted to beat Ainra the next time they met. He just wanted to be prepared. Tiruan did have a tiny sliver of masculine pride to uphold, and he didn't want the young lioness thinking him to be stupid. After all, she had thought it rather silly of him when he didn't know how to play. But this time he would be prepared.
Large body pressed close to the ground as he moved slowly, Tiruan spotted his prey. Aha! There she was! He would get her this time! Of course there was quite an advantage to being as small as Ainra, but Tiruan hardly considered it. As far as he was concerned he was hidden in the grass. Just... he moved a little more loudly. Would she notice?

A rustle?
The young lioness turned her head partially, but luckily for Tiruan, was not enough to spot him. As he had susected, the grass masked him and the wind was on his side. She neither saw nor smelt him coming.
She returned her gaze ahead of her, to the band of water a few paces away from where she lay.
Maybe she could go find that grumpy lion again. She could pounce him again. It'd made her laugh last time and she certainly felt up for a game. Then again, Ainra was always ready to play.
She thumoed her tail hard on the ground, watched a beetle scuttle past her nose. She pinned it beneath a paw, felt it scuffle under it in panic.
"Got'cha!" She giggled, releasing the beetle who turned on it's back and waved it's legs madly at her. She laughed again.

Oh no! Had she seen him?
Tiruan froze, orange eyes wide as he waited. He knew he was a bit big for this stalking game, especially since he hadn’t picked an amazing hiding spot, but he had thought he was at least good enough at hunting itself not to be spotted. The lion gave an inward sigh of relief when she turned away, and continued forward. The sight of her tail moving made him pause, before he decided that it would be his target today. It was time to put all his manly skills to the test.
The lion leapt of the bushed with a flourish, paws aiming for Ainra's flicking tail. He would have it! This was, after all, the way that she had started their game last time. It was only fitting he got her back. To an outsider, it might have looked incredibly silly for a grown lion to be pouncing on the tail of a young lioness, but to Tiruan it was just the way to start the game.

She was aware of the air shifting as he pounced, aware suddenly that she was very much not alone. And then she felt a pressure on her tail and her first instinct was to shriek. She rolled in an attempt to twist free from her surprise attack, exposing her belly for a few seconds before pulling herself up to her feet.
"Oh, it's you Mister!" She squeaked, panting.
"I thought I was doomed!" She bounced then, suddenly full of life. "You pounced my tail good! You must hunt well, yes?" She smiled up at him, little fangs peeking out of her mouth.
She was glad to see him looking happier than when they had last meant.

At the shriek, Tiruan leapt back, suddenly afraid that he had hurt her. Stupid! It was one thing for a cub to pounce on the tail of an adult. It was something totally different for an adult to pounce on the tail of a cub. What if he had broken it? That would not be a good way to start their gaming! He pressed his ears against the back of his head, watching her wiggle away from him. Was she hurt? Or just surprised?
When she turned to look back at him, he swiveled one ear forward. She didn't seem too upset once she realized it was him. That didn't mean she wasn't hurt though. Only when she began bouncing and grinned at him did Tiruan relax. Phew. "Oh I'm a good enough hunter," he replied, puffing out his chest. "But I like to let lionesses do the hunting. They like it better than I do." Not to mention they were better at it. Manes just got in the way of everything.
"And I did get you, didn't I! I didn't nick your tail or anything, did I?" He had to be sure.

"I haven't been very good at hunting." She replied thoughtfully. "But then, mother told me I'd have to wait for my claws to grow in. I think she was teasing me though." She smiled, seemed unaware that she should probably be spending time learning to provide for herself and the pride rather than having her head in the clouds all the time.
"Maybe when I'm bigger I'll be better at hunting." But she didn't really plan on getting older.
Then, waving her tail experimentally for a moment she turned to him and smiled. "Nope, all okay!"
She stretched leisurely and glanced up at him with vivid green eyes. "Mister, what is it like to be grown up? Do all the grown up things? Do you have to have horrible pride responsibilities and find a mate and start a family and everything? Seems to me like mother doesn't do anything put help us every day. She must be sooo bored!"

Tiruan nodded his head. "You'll need the proper claws to go hunting, just like your mom said. But you’re a lioness. You have to be good at hunting. It's what you do. It's sort of like... males growing a mane really. It just happens. You'll be a great hunter one day, you'll see.” He gave her a sage nod, as though he knew what was going to happen in the future. Ainra had to be a good hunter, and if she wasn't, then Tiruan would just have to make sure she learned to be a good hunter. That was how it would be. "Being bigger is good too."
He gave an inward sigh of relief when she said she wasn't hurt, glad that her yell had only been out of surprise. Tiruan had very few friends, and he didn't like to hurt any of them, as tough he liked to think he was. He didn't like being hurt, especially having hurt feelings, so he tried not to be unkind to his friends. Anyone else who he didn't like was fair game, however.
The lion blinked at her question, frowning a little as he thought about an answer. "Well, you're bigger and you can do more things. Like you can go wherever you want in the world, hunt anything, and everything knows that they have to take you seriously 'cause you're a lion." He frowned even more at her next questions, and shook his head. "No...you don’t have to do anything. You can just be a pride hunter like me and just sort of hang out. And finding a family is only if you want it." He made a face at the thought. "But it's very hard."

"I hope so. I do like hunting, the stalking and being quiet and the way you have to be clever and outwit the prey. It's good, especially when you get it right and end up with a nice full belly."
She giggled, patting at a flower with a paw. "Being bigger would be useful for seeing over things, but not useful for hide and seek." She laughed. "Can't squeeze into all the little places then."
She looked up at him then, taking inhis words with all the patience of a good student. She seemed to file things away. Really Ainra was a wonderful listener when she put her mind to it. "Finding a mate and a family is hard? Do you think I'll be cute enough to find a boy when I'm older?" She smiled. "Do you have a girl Tiru? If you have cubs can I teach them games?" She looked up at him with glittering eyes of innocence.

The lion couldn't help but give a small chuckle at Ainra's words. "It's always nice to have a skill that satisfies you in some way, especially when it comes to food. And if you like all of those things then you're definitely become a great hunter one day. Only those who are naturally really terrible or just hate killing things don't become good hunters. But you're a girl, so that means you're naturally talented already." The girls were for hunting and the boys were for hanging around looking nice and getting fed. Sometimes they would fight, but other than that they weren't really needed. That was how it should be, at least to Tiruan.
Tiruan nodded when she repeated his last statement. Finding a mate was very hard for him, and thus starting a family was even harder. You had to have a female who was actually interested in you, and even then, that didn't always guarantee a family. Life was complicated like that. At her question, the lion scoffed. "Of course you'll be cute enough! The females are always good looking, and it's up to the males to impress them. But some females are really, really picky, and don't want the males that are interested in them. Most of the time they make the choice, so it's up to us males to try and be the best we can be." Tiruan coughed at her final words, before shifting from paw to paw rather nervously. "No... I don't. I was interested in a girl but she's extremely busy with other things in her life. I stopped looking a long time ago." He gave a small shrug. "But you'll have no trouble finding a male."

Content with that she purred, curling her paws against her chest in a very cat-like fashion. Then, she blinked up at him with her large green eyes. "The girls hunt and the males protect, right? See it's a males job to protect his babies." Ainra nodded. "And look pretty."
She paused, listening to him further.
"It sounds hard being a boy." She admitted. "Having to try so hard to get a girl. I don't think I could be so mean to a boy if they wanted to be with me. But then, I couldn't say yes to them all because that would be mean." She shrugged. "I guess I'll cross that road when I get to it."
She put on a cute face. "Too busy for a friend?" Ainra asked. "It sounds like she has a lonely life." She fell quiet a moment, nodding slowly. "I think you should go find her, Tiru. What happens if she's waiting for the right male and then someone else takes your place? You'd make a wonderful mate. Just think how much cheerier you are now from when we first met." She giggled.
"I think, if you like her, you should try your best to gain her heart." Ainra nodded. "What is she like? Does she like to play, too?"

Tiruan blinked, before nodding sagely at her words. Ainra caught on quite quickly to what the roles of males and females were. It was nice that there was someone else who shared his viewpoint. "Exactly. Everyone has their own duties that they must perform. When lionesses and lions forget what they are meant to do then you have trouble starting. Males who don't stay with their females, females who leave their cubs with others. That sort of thing. It's not a good situation." He nodded to himself again. Having a proper family was how it should be. That way the cubs could have proper role models and know what they place in life was.
The male was mildly surprised by her straightforwardness, however it made him smile. "You will know when you find the right male. Sometimes it'll mean turning down one, but there will always be other females for the ones that don't get you." Tiruan definitely didn't want her to settle for a male that was second best just because she didn't want to hurt his feelings. Ainra could only have the very best male to make sure that everything worked out best for her.
"Oh I don't think she's lonely, but she's very very busy. She deals with all kinds of lions every day." Tiruan couldn't help but raise both his eyebrows when Ainra said that he should go and find her. Him, be her mate? The thought made him flick his tail, frowning a little. "It's... well, she's a very important member of this pride with status and respect. I think that she would approach the one that she liked, so approaching her would be rather silly. And what's she like?" Tiruan paused to think. "Well... she's really nice? And she talks to everyone." To be honest, Tiruan knew very little about Mekali, having decided that avoiding her was a good way to make sure he never put himself in a bad situation. "She probably has a mate already anyways. Probably one of the other important elders."

She listened to him descrubing how males and females generally hooked up. "It almost sounds like a game! A different more important game, but a game none-the-less. It'll be fun to have someone giving me attention, trying to win my heart." She nodded.
Then she giggled. "Are you shy Tiru? You shouldn't worry so much about what rank she's in. She sounds really nice and if she talks to everyone she certainly isn't up on her imaginary little throne somewhere. Who knows, she might want a good friend." She flicked her ears. "And how can you get her to choose you if you don't try and win her affections? It would be awful if she chose someone else not realising that you liked her in that way."
"Besides, after what you just told me. About males staying with their females and never parting, you would make a wonderful mate! Dependable and...and...stufff." She beamed.

The lion chuckled when she said it sounded like a game. "It does, at least a little bit." The finding a mate game was a bit more serious than any of the games he had played with Ainra, but he supposed it really was a game. In the end, somebody won and somebody lost, though sometimes both pairs won the game. Could you have a game where two people won? With Ainra involved, you probably could.
"Shy?" Tiruan repeated, before listening to what she had to say. Though a part of him balked at admitting it, Ainra did have some very logical points. "No, I'm not shy," he said finally, before adding, "Just realistic. She's got big plans for what she's going to do with her life and I don't." He wasn't even part of the royal guard. What could he possibly offer a girl like her? "She knows what she needs, and I'm confident she'll pick a good male for her."
He couldn't help but smiling at Ainra's compliment, and he inclined his head. "I'd like to hope so. I'm sure you'll be a more... dependable mate than I would."

She stood up, sighing and staring up at him with those large, vivid green eyes. There was so much innocence in those eyes right now, no sense of anything but gentle kindness. Maybe she would never truly understand the ways of the world, but who knew what fate had instore for her.
She moved towards the large male and rubbed herself against his foreleg, releasing a purr as she sat beside him. "Either way, what harm can there be in just saying hello? Just letting her know you exist?"
She looked out across the landscape that she had grown to love dearly. "And if she says no, atleast you can move on with no regrets, no wondering, 'what if?'." She looked up at him.
"I think...I think you don't realise how nice you are Tiru. I like you so lots of other girls." No not girls... "Ladies," she corrected, "will like you too." She giggled. "Just smile a little more and be less grumpy and you'll have them all running after you!" She squeaked.
"Anyway...I best be off now. I gotta go see my Sis." She stood, glanced up at him and grinned. "See ya later, alligator!" And she headed off, bouncing like a spring lamb as she went.
(( ready for a goodbye rp? <3 ))
