I've pretty much got 4-string sweeps down, so i'm trying to learn 5-string sweeps, but need a little help getting the B, G, and D, strings to stop vibrating! any help with that?
I only know one, so any would be appreciated..!
I know this one... but I need more!
E-----13-----------------------13---- B--------14-----------------14------ G-----------13----------13---------- D--------------15----15-------------- A------------------16----------------- E---------------------------------------

its the same as 3 and 4 string sweeping, you lift your fingers alittle to kill the sound and any buzzing before moving on to the next string. also, i forget who does this, but VERY light palm muting also helps. i think it was micheal angelo batio who does that, but i forgot

if pulling your finger off the string isnt muting it properly, it sounds like you might not be in sync with your picking. look up the duncan hills coffee jingle by dethklok theres even an instructional vid you should have no trouble finding on youtube its got a 5 string sweep in the solo that you use twice and a lot of people i know learned to sweep from that. ive got no problem with sweeps as long as i dont have to use my pinky on a wound string razz if i do the sweep automatically becomes insanely hard.

I'm having trouble with the 6 string barre sweeps myself. the biggest problem is the rolling off with the ring finger. But to you, and me, and anybody else practicing anything: Just slow down until it sounds perfect.
It's an interesting paradox to have to have hepatience to play really slow, especially because that's how you get to play really fast. Stupid patience.

Here's a 5-string sweep for ya'
e|----------------------12h17p12----------------------- B|------------------13--------------13------------------ G|--------------14----------------------14-------------- D|----------14------------------------------14---------- A|--12h15--------------------------------------15p12-- E|--------------------------------------------------------
If you can't get the strings to stop vibrating you can always try palm muting. That's what I do. It does help a lot. However if you don't want to go through the trouble of palm muting you can switch it over to Rhythm guitar so the pick ups don't...pick up on the vibrations quite as much and the amp won't make as much sound.
You can always practice half-sweeps, too.

I practiced 5 and 6 string sweeps for months, and Im got it down pretty good, super exaggerated speed.
Basically, I palm like normal, and it tends to work.
though if youre playing with alot of fuzz its way harder to keep clean.

[ Tre ] I'm a half sweeper for now because i can get them cleanly and well. I tend to combine the 3-string half sweeps and full 4-string sweeps.
This is one of my favorite ones I made: E-17p13-------------------13---------13h17p13---------------------14h18- B--------14------------14---------14-------------14--------------15---------- G------------13----13---------15---------------------13------16------------- D---------------15-----------------------------------------15----------------- A------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Making the 3-string up a quadruplet. or sixteenth notes.
If you need good 4-string sweeps, PM me. I've got a couple i frequent.
EDIT: I use the light palm-muting technique, and it works for my 4-string sweeps, but when I get to the G, D, and A strings in my 5-string, they resonate and make some sounds that aren't what I want.

I've been working on my sweeps lately and not very strictly or anything but each time i plug in it feels so much easier. funny thing is, while im playing them it doesnt feel like theyre getting any better it actually seems to start to slump after a short while, but then the next day badaboom im somehow getting better anyway.

Oh, what's a half-sweep, exactly? Is it where you sweep down one way but don't sweep back up and vice-versa? Because it's about half the whole sweep, so I can only assume...
Edit: Oh yeah, here's another 5-string sweep. Alexi Laiho, from Children of Bodom, uses it in his song "Warheart". It's a variation of the C+D Chord arpeggios. It goes like this:
.........C Chord.................D Chord e|---------------16h19p17p14-------- B|-----------17-----------------15----- G|-------16-------------------------14- D|----17-------------------------------- A|19------------------------------------ E|---------------------------------------- ..........C Chord.................D Chord
e|---------------10h14p12p9--------- B|-----------12----------------10----- G|-------11------------------------9-- D|----12------------------------------- A|14----------------------------------- E|--------------------------------------
