It has been done for many centurys but it has become more taboo as the churches have shunned modern artwork.. So i want to hear your opinions on if this topic is even worth discussing.. and also if it is important to have god in your artwork (weather or not you think he exists (or she) )

Questions to ask yourself

Q:Is it okay to show a form of GOD in your artwork

Q biggrin o you think GOD exists?

Q: Does religion effect your personal opinion on this topic?

Firstly, I don't believe in God/ higher powers in general. If we deify something, we automatically defile both it and ourselves; it's a form of tyranny I'd rather not be a part of. For me, to show 'God' in art is a little crude. If he is this 'all seeing, all powerful' being who has never been seen before-which seems to contradict religion; if 'God' and gods themselves are based wholly upon the fact that it requires faith to accept the fact that they are there, in order to rebuke those who make the claim 'I only believe in what I see'- then what right do we, as lower 'mortals', have to depict him? I find religion , and belief in religion, overbearing, ignorant and forceful to the point of disgust. This is my own opinion, obviously: I do not mean to insult you, as I think people should be allowed to believe in what they want, as crass an opinion as it may be. I can understand religious imagery, undertones, elements, in artwork; the portrayal of faith, love, trust (subservience, in my words) in something of a sublime, ethereal nature- these can be moving, thought provoking, they may even call into mind our own belief in the world. But to use 'God' directly? To humanise something that, supposedly, is not even human? I find that more than a little disconcerting.

I don't personally believe in god, in a more agnostic approach. I generally live life by more science, logic and reason, so this being so unprovable makes it incredibly hard to believe in.

I believe artwork, or an artist has the right to portray he or she wants in their work. Whether it be God, or something else. I guess I can appreciate each persons interpretation of what God is, a human figure or something completely abstract.
I'd say my religous believes don't really effect my opinion, in that, I don't have any, and I think people can put just about anything into their art if they so choose. Who is to tell them they can't?

Completely ironic turn around? I think soooo.

Although it's probably not a good idea... If you took that to court you could probably get a controversial issue started and might be able to get your suspension taken off your record. That's church vs state issue. Public university should not be able to punish you for anything related to religion. They can say you did it IN school therefore you broke the boundaries first, however, if you believe in showing God as an image in a non religious way but one that gets people talking, you should be able to win that.

I thought about your questions and I have to say that this world is so amazing that it's probably a mistake on our part to think that it was a simple accident and not planned. Perhaps it's just because i was raised a Christian, but I believe in God and I believe in showing him in any way you feel. Art should not be held back by boundaries. Sure you are going to offend crazy people, but it's hard not to offend anyone. I've offended people by being too polite, by not being polite enough, by being too feminine, too masculine, too goth, too hyper, too whatever. You just need to be careful about who you offend. It just really depends on how far you are willing to take your opinions and if you are willing to die for them.

Suspended? Wow. What kind of manner did you portray God in the piece of work? (Besides not being offensive)
And where you live could have a big influence on that too.

I certainly don't think its worth getting suspended over.

Should people be able to portray God? It depends. If someone creates an artistic figure of what they think God looks like and claims that everyone should accept that as the true form, then no. In your case, yes. I think it's fine if the use is purely symbolic.

Do I believe in God? Yes. I've been raised Christian, and I've had experiences in my life that have led me to keep that belief. However, I've yet to find a set church that I really, truly agree with. They all seem to add their own spins onto everything and claim certain documents as holy that, well...weren't original.

Does religion affect my opinion? Yes. We're not supposed to worship figures, et cetera, so claiming a certain thing is what God looks like bugs me. However, I really don't have a problem when "God" is used as a character on TV shows and such, because everyone knows it's entirely representational, and no one's claiming that's what he looks like or that the artwork is holy.

Personally, I'm guessing that, if God truly has a human form, it very well might be black. After all, science points time and again to people originating from Africa, and the Bible does say that man was created in God's own image....
