Wacheza was wandering again. He had heard his sisters talking about a secret cove that no one else in the pride knew about... which he doubted, since he was almost always wandering. It occured to him that it could be where he had hidden the glass sculpture that the lightning goddess had given him... but they would probably be a lot more excited if they had found that.

However, if this secret cove of theirs was really somewhere new, perhaps it would be a place where he could sit and think when he wanted to be completely undesturbed. Those days were rare, as he always liked to see other lions... but sometimes the quiet could be quite calming. It also made it easier for his usual train of butterflies to settle down. They always did get jittery around other lions.

Still... that made him wonder how Akari was doing with the butterfly he had left with her. He could only assume well, for the beautiful bug had seemed to like her, and she had promised she would take care of it... but as it was in his nature to think well of others, it was also in his nature to worry for their well-being, both the lioness' and the butterfly's.

Akai had been spending a lot more time with her family lately. It was good, and it seemed like the days were flying by. She made sure to take a lot of time each day to play with her butterfly, make sure that it seemed happy and healthy. So far, so good!

Whenever she looked at the butterfly, though, her mind couldn't help but wander to thoughts about her friend. How was he doing? She felt like she'd grown up a bit since she last saw him. He'd remember her, surely, but would she be able to find him?

Akai left her family in the morning, intent on finding him. It had been a slow trail, as many things simply distracted her. Little things like flowers, sea shells....they were all so pretty, and just asked to be examined! Only when the sun started to warm the lands did she realize just how slow her pace was, oops!

"Oh boy, we should look harder, shouldn't we?" she asked her butterfly, picking up the pace to where the sea pride's borders were. Maybe he'd be out wandering again like when they first met?

As Wacheza wandered, he was suprised when his butterflies suddenly seemed to get distracted and flew up into the air around him. That caused him to pause for a moment, as they never moved away from him unless there was something loud, or distinctly unpleasent around him... or they saw someone they didn't know or did know... so in other words, there could be plenty of reasons for their flying away. But instead of their usual scattering, they all seemed to be heading in a very specific direction, which was a little bit odd. They didn't really ever do that.

So he quietly turned around and decided to follow them, wandering if they were trying to show him something... which was possible. They had all been with him for so long... he doubted they would lead him to something dangorus. They tended to like flying in the opposite direction of danger. So... perhaps this was something entirely more interesting that what he had previously been searching for.

Akai's feet stopped suddenly as she saw her butterfly act a little weird. Huh? It was hovering around her as normal, but it kept flying upwards, higher and higher, then dip down again. She craned her neck to try and see, worried that maybe it was going to leave her. No! She didn't want it to at all!

"Come back little butterfly!" she cried, bouncing around a bit. She worried, her brow furrowed as she tried to think about how to attract the butterfly back down.

As soon as she tried to do something, though, it slowly drifted back down towards her, tickling her ear before floating off away from her. She, being quite confused, trotted behind the butterfly curiously. It was only then that she noticed other butterflies as well. Oh! Was Wacheza around? Maybe? She tried not to hope, just in case it wasn't, but with the way her butterfly was acting, maybe he was!

"Wacheza?" she called out hesitantly, still following her butterfly.

Wacheza continued to follow his small cloud of butterflies, which lead him up a small hill, and a little further away from the ocean sands. He wondered, absently, where they were headed... for something had quite surely caught their interest. The thought never even occured to him that they might leave him for good... his butterflies had been with him since he was barely able to stand, he doubted they were going anywhere now. The fact that they were leading him somewhere for once though... that was entirely new.

He followed them up to the top of the hill, and then he heard his name, which made his ears perk up. It was a voice he knew almost instantly, Akari, the girl he had offered one of his butterflies. A butterfly which he could now see, causing him to look down and smile. There she was, his friend, Akari, there to see him... or perhaps her butterfly had simply led her to him, as his had led him to her.

"Akari!" He called down from the hill, smiling kindly and waving a paw in friendly greeting. This was quite a bit more exciting than his orevious journey had been.

Akai's ears perked up once she heard a reply. Ohhh, good! That means that she was right! The flock of butterflies that were meeting up with her little butterfly were Wacheza's! Well, she had found him! Horrah!

"So it is your butterflies!" she said with a giggle, bouncing up towards her friend. It had been much too long since she had seen him. It was a good feeling to see someone outside of her family, no matter how much she loved them all.

She glanced up to see her butterfly mingling with the others, sure that it was probably happy to be with its friends again. She was certainly feeling the same.

"How are you? It's been sooo long, I'm so sorry I haven't tried to find you sooner!" She did feel pretty bad, actually, but sometimes family just had to come first.

Wacheza grinned, watching as the butterflies rejoined each other, clearly as glad to see their old friend as Wacheza was to see his own. It felt like it had been ages since he had seen Akari, but like her, he had been with his family... his mother was having enough trouble with the fact that her children were growing up as it was!

"Yes, so it seems. They only seem to be growing in number..." Wacheza nodded absently, quiet and content now that he understood what his butterflies had been trying to tell him. Clearly he needed to listen to them more often.

"It's quite alright," Wacheza smiled, "believe me, I know how life can get in the way of finding old friends. But it is certainly grand to see you again, Akari. I've been well, what about you?" He asked, feeling very... pleasent now.

Akai drew her head back, lowering her body a bit to peer up at him. He sure had gotten...fluffier! It was kind of funny to see him like that, and even a bit of a surprise. Sure, her brothers were growing in their manes too, but they were her brothers. She saw them all the time, and didn't care that much about what they looked like. So it was a bit of a surprise to see Wacheza maturing like that. It sort of....showed just how long it had been since they had last seen one another. What seemed like a short amount of time must have actually been a lot.

"I've been okay. A bit busy with my family, but I think everything is going okay." She shyly picked herself up, swaying her paw around on the sand softly, observing the lines in the sand that she made. She was a bit shy, sure, but it had been a while. She wasn't quite the silly little but that she used to be. ...right? Had she grown up?

"It's fun to be out and about. And look!" She looked up at the butterfly that was hiding within Wacheza's group. "Oh...well...in there somewhere. My butterfly has been doing great!" She smiled, still trying to look for her butterfly inbetween peeking glancing at Wacheza. She would have had a hard time looking for him again if anything had ever happened to her butterfly.

Wacheza's own face brightened even more when she mentioned that her own butterfly was alright. He had honestly missed it when it had gone, as he missed any of his small friends. He was happy that his judgement had been good and that Akari had taken such good care of it. But honestly, he had little doubt that she wouldn't have. She seemed to be a good lioness to him, and had proven as much by looking after the little butterfly. It wasn't a task that he had even trusted his siblings with... they tended to be a little too rough and loud for that sort of thing. "I'm so glad... I'm happy that you two stayed friends."

He too was suprised by how much Akari had grown. She was much taller than he remembered her... but then, he supposed that he was as well. But still, she looked as interesting to him as ever with all of her interesting markings. His own family was fairly plain, and ever since his youngest brother, the most colorful of their group, had left, he had not seen many colorful lions up close.

"I'm also glad to hear that your family is well. Have they settled down for good? They were looking, the last time we talked." He mentioned, trying to recal the conversations that seemed to have taken place so long ago. They had certainly grown enough, but really, it hadn't been all that long.

Akai nodded her head with enthusiasm. "I think so!" She really did, as it seemed like they all liked it here. At least her parents did. Maybe not all of her sibilings, but she didn't pay much attention to that herself. It seemed normal, the little odd complaints here and there, the little bits and pieces of wanderlust that would tickle their toes for a while. Akai got it once in a while, but she managed to stay close by, just exploring the beach and everything around it. She did have more to think about than just her family, though. She could never leave her butterfly behind.

"I sure hope so. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else," she said with a giggle, bouncing a bit like a cub. Maybe she had physically grown a bit, but she still felt like a bit of a cub inside. She noticed that her butterfly drifted a bit closer to her for a moment before re-mingling with it's old friends.

"The sand is always so much fun, especially with what the water sometimes brings up!" She knew she was rambling a bit, but it was so nice to talk to someone who might listen! "Not that I take the stuff....some of it is weird looking..." She couldn't help but laugh again, thinking about the weird things she saw and never wanting to touch that stuff!

Wacheza watched her, seeing how her butterfly did slowly drift back towards her, which only made him smile all the more. She must have taken very good care of it, for it to return to her like that. Perhaps when she had to leave again, he would offer another friend for her... they seemed to get along so well!

Always glad to listen, he couldn't help but laugh a little as she brought up the sand, "Yes... it's all quite nice isn't it? Some things are strange to look at too... but from what I've seen," and from all he had watched, he should know it by now, "everything around here is connected... almost like a family. Even from the most slimey to the biggest things... I still can't say I'm all that fond of crabs though." He chuckled a little, "One attacked my tail when I was younger... I've been a little wary of them since then. But I'm glad that you're all happy around here. I love the sea... I can't see why anyone would want to leave."

Though they had... two of his siblings had already gone off in search of what else was out there in the big world outside of his pride. That was fine too, he supposed... but really, his love was the sea and all that was there. He would never want to go much further from it, "There's something so peaceful about it... even in the worst storms."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 05, 2008 8:52 pm

"Ewww," she said, making a face. Just thinking about slimey things sort of grossed her out. The the thought of it....ugh! SHe shivered for a moment before laughing it off. "Slimey things certainly aren't my thing!"

Akai's tail twitched as she thought about storms. True....while she didn't live in the same exact area as Wacheza, she did live pretty close to the big blue ocean, and the storms would be scary, especially with the waves. "Well, if you're careful," she started otu slowly, agreeing with Wacheza, "and you stick yourself inside of a cave, storms aren't too scary." She offered him a smile. Storms did scare her, and they scared her a lot, but it was one thing that she would never admit to anyone, even her family. And they knew how scared she got of out noises and storms.

"Though I agree about the leaving thing....I think some of my sibilings might leave too, but that's in our blood." She fell silent for a moment before speaking up again. "Mother mentioned that it's in our blood, to be wanderers. I think...that skipped over me. I wouldn't ever want to leave here, it's too fun." Her tone was serious, but she did try to lighten herself up in the end of her speech.

Wacheza chuckled a little, "Well... slimey things may be..." his nose wrinkled slightly, "Well... they really are very unpleasent. Still, they're needed, when it comes down to it. We're all connected." He decided with a small nod. It was something he had thought about very often really, the connections between things. But then, he sat alone and thought a lot. It was what he did. "You don't have to like them... I wouldn't say I do, but I know they have their reasons for being around. I just... well, I don't like crabs." He admitted sheepishly.

Wacheza wasn't afraid of storms in the least however... which he confessed to himself was a little odd. It was the crabs. The little crabs who had bitten his tail when he was younger and nearly made him drown... but he had met the Goddess of Lightning on more than one occasion. He almost looked forward to storms because of that.

"I couldn't say..." Wacheza mentioned, "My parents don't really talk about their families from before now. My one brother left to find out where we come from... my sister just wanted to see the world." He smiled over at her, "Who knows? Maybe I can convince you to stay here with me, if you don't like wandering." It didn't really occur to him that he could mean more than he thought he meant... or did he mean what he meant?

Now this required further contemplation entirely... Wacheza needed to think things through. It was just how his mind worked.

Akai blinked, not quite sure that she understood what Wacheza had meant. Stay? She let her mind roll it around a bit, looking at it through every possibility. Only when she felt a bit more confident did she open her mouth to speak.

"I'd like to stay here." It was quietly given, Akai looking at her black toes. Almost as if she had never seen them before. Her red eyes slowly made their way up to Wacheza's, a smile growing on her face. "Besides, I wouldn't leave my only friend alone, would I?"

She strutted around for a moment, her lone little butterfly landing on her head for that moment. "Plus then I'd have to take my butterfly away from it's friends, and that wouldn't be easy, either!" Her smile stayed glued on her face, pleased with her little comment. She did care a lot about her butterfly, especially since it had started to grow accustomed to her, and followed her around for the most part. It was, to her, a tie of her friendship with Wacheza.

"Really? You would stay here?" Wacheza asked, looking between thrilled and suprised by the idea. "Wow... I've had lots of friends... and my brothers and sisters... but none have ever wanted to stay with me before. "I'm so... I'm so happy." He smiled brightly, looking over at the butterflies, "I'm sure they are as well."

He really was sure the butterflies would be pleased to stay together... especially to have Akai join up with them as well. They all seemed to like her. She was calm. She was happy. He liked that about her. He could talk to her.

What would it be like? He couldn't help but wonder... he had never had a friend outside the family live near him. And Akai was so nice... it would be fun. She wouldn't leave him. That was... it was nice. He was suprised, but like the butterflies had grown used to him... he was growing used to her. "I think this will be fun."
