Myself from an old thread (I like Crimson Moonlight because...) they grew in Sweeden and Norway, the cradle of Black Metal, and they studied music from young age. Plus, they combine these symphonic melodic sound along with gothic black metal, giving the band a special unique ambient.

I nominate Ashen Light for their expert ways of intergrating Russian folklore and folk music into Black Metal. They also have some tight performances where the crowds are crazy!

Emperor, simply because the cd "emperor/wrath of the tyrant" seems to capture everything that black metal is about, and does so in an extremely raw, energetic, passionate, dark, ominous, fantabulous way.

I'm voicing my opinion in the name of Woods of Ypres.
Their EP was absolutely breath-taking, straight from the icy vein that is Blak Metal. It to this day still captivates me.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that Mayhem and Emperor get a 1st round pairing together when they're probably the two most highly regarded black metal bands out there?
