Amaroq wasn't going back.

He'd decided this, the morning after he'd attacked Bella. When he had finally let the battered and torn mare escape, he had fallen into a deep sleep. The realization of what he had done the following morning had left him simultaneously nauseous and sadistically smug. His mind was warping, twisting with its own vindictiveness towards the mare that had, in his eyes, betrayed him...but even so, remnants of the stallion his mother had raised remained. Those remnants were what felt shock and horror at what he had done, were what knew the punishment that would fall upon him should his mother learn of his deeds.

So he had remained in the eerie forest that had hosted Bella's assault, his only acknowledgement of his own crime being to move farther within.

Something was upsetting his god, and his Mother...the black stallion had to know what exactly.
Earlier, Shadowmere had been awakened by a screeching in his mind, the call of his Father. Something had disturbed him. And so, Shadowmere had been searching and searching for that 'thing' that done such a thing.

The brutal stallion's mind was whirling with things that he would do when he found that 'thing'...Tear it's neck as it slowly died under his hooves, and give it's heart to his Father as a sign of good will. That sounded lovely, oh so lovely to him~ But his Mother had told him not to kill this one, merely...to chat with it, learn about it and then come back to her with what he had learned.

Amaroq, dozing among the rotting leaves on the forest floor, awoke to the scent of a stranger drifting on the wind. His first impulse was to flatten his ears to his head in anger that his territory was being invaded. He cared little for privacy, especially when it came to others. But this patch of forest was his, and no one else's. That was something all of him could agree on. Heaving himself to his feet, he lifted his head to whiff the air more deeply, hoping for the wind to lead him to the intruder. "Who goes there?" he called, voice smooth but hard...like polished stone.

Shadowmere's eyes flickered for a moment upon hearing the words, but took no heed from them and kept walking into the other stallion's territory. "So someone 'does' live here~ How lovely. Perhaps you, the one speaking amongst the shadows would dare to show himself." He was eager yet cautious to meet the one that upset his god, Sithis and the Night Mother...though he was surprised the Mother wanted him to live...after he had angered Sithis! But, he would not go against his Mother's will...His and His will the Mother's and the Mother's will was Shadowmere's.

The ember of Amaroq's irritation flared, nearly catching flame to anger. But the fragments of who he was reined himself back sharply, remembering the last time his rage had been loosed. "Trespassing can be, in a word, stupid," he replied tersely, snorting as he stepped towards the voice. Then his voice took on a taunting tone as he continued, "Of course, I could use the amusements of your antics before I send you packing."

...Well, the stallion his mother had raised was still a cocky one.

The dark stallion snorted in amusement, "Send me packing, hm? And just who do you think you are little boy?" He had time to spare, and perhaps this rather annoying voice was the one who disturbed Sithis...and if he was...may Sithis have mercy on him once Shadowmere was done with him. Just has Shadowmere had done before, he continued into the other stallion's territory, testing the patience of the other one, or perhaps it was for just his own amusement...eh, not that he cared at all.

The voice grew louder, as did the hoofbeats. With a low growl, Amaroq stepped out in front of the stranger. He was certainly an ominous-looking enough fellow, but as normal as he himself...not that he considered himself 'normal!' Relaxing slightly, he smirked smugly, letting amusement veil irritation in his icy eyes. "I don't think you've earned the honor of knowing my name, trespasser." He hadn't had a proper fight since he was a colt, barring spars with his brother up until his sire had left. Bella...that didn't count. She was a mare, and had been punished more than truly fought.

Shadowmere growled lowly in his throat. Hmph, he had dealt with a peppy little pink usdia, two mare unikalonas, but none had refused him their name. He wasn't sure why, but it infuriated him..."Then tell me you scum, what would I have to do to learn your bloody name?" He took a step forward.

It's true that Shadowmere had fought before, but this was different...this stallion seemed as though he wanted to fight...or something of the sort. If he wanted, Shadowmere would deliver something brutal for him...

Amaroq sneered, tossing his head so that his forelock half-hid his eyes. "Now now, I merely called you a trespasser, which is what you are...after all, you're on my turf. If you want my name, I'd cool it on the insults or you'll leave as ignorant of it as when you came." A slightly crazed light lit those eyes, adrenaline surging in his veins at the prospect of a battle. If there was one thing he was good at, it was taunting others into their own humiliation. "Your own might be a start if you do...and an apology."

"Hmph, when the underworld freezes over then you shall have your apology, worm." Shadowmere growled, his crimson eyes narrowed at the stallion. "Shadowmere, servant of my Dread Father; Sithis." Though as much as his mind told him to just leave the stallion or at least leave him with something to remember him by..."Now worm, what is your name?" He asked tossing his man back.

Amaroq bared strong blunt teeth. "Cut the insults or you'll receive nothing from me, Shadowmere." The stranger's name was spoken with a hiss of disdain and a sneer. "Being somebody's servant doesn't make you any better than I...there are those that would think it made you less." The gleam in the dark stallion's eye clearly implied he was one of 'those.' "So are you going to have a civil tongue, or shall I have to teach you the use of it?"
