So, I'm giving blood this Thursday at my high school because I really want to do it. The only problem with that plan is that I hate needles, so I'm terrified and pretty much hoping that this week suddenly stops progressing. Any suggestions on how to get over this most likely irrational fear of the pointy little buggers before I have to go give my blood so the vampires don't starve?
The last time I had to get my blood drawn was at the doctor's office and before the nurse even put the needle in my arm, I started giggling uncontrollably (nervous reaction), even when I was looking away from my arm. It was extremely embarrassing; especially when I came back a month later for a physical and the nurse called me the giggly girl.

Haha, giggly girl. whee I dunno! Try singing a really really catchy song right before you do it so that you're mind is off humming instead of thinking about needles prodding your flesh.

Well, it turns out my iron level was too low, so I didn't get to give. Now I'm pissed because I really wanted to give blood and waited so long in line. Oh well...

Aww, that sucks. You still can do it at the Red Cross or whatever. Just take some vitamins.
I hate needles, too, and yet, I've given blood and plasma, and have a tattoo and have been pierced 9 times. I just look away and try to keep my mind on something else, and it works pretty well.

I want a tattoo really bad. Me and my friend Nicki have decided to get them together. I'm going to get a chakram (classic of course) on my upper arm. Nicki's idea. Hahaha.
I think it would be cute if I got half of the newer chakram and she got the other half, but she'd probably think I was weird if I suggested that. lol.

I gave blood once. But the girl put the needle into my arm wrong, and hit a nerve. My whole arm went numb and I couldn't move my fingers. So they didn't get much of a donation from me... I should go again sometime soon. It's really good for you. It encourages your body to produce more, and healthier blood.

I did not know that. I don't really donate here in Lansing much. I really only did it in Eugene for the money. xp Plus out there, I could ride the bus home, and here I would have to drive, and that probably wouldn't be a good idea.

They PAY you for blood donations? Wow. Over here, the most you get is a lollipop and a free coke or coffee or something. My grandfather used to get movie tickets and stuff because he's got a sure rare blood type, and they wanted him to come back. But never money. I WANT MONEY! *sulks*

EhmiEhmi Aww, that sucks. You still can do it at the Red Cross or whatever. Just take some vitamins. Wrong. If your iron is too low, you can't donate. PERIOD. My mom had the same problem. I, however wouldn't mind having an excuse to not give blood. Apparently I have the iron level of a healthy adult male, according to my doctor. crying But I guess that's a good thing. Anemia is usually genetic and the mother person had such severe Anemia that she almost died. So I guess I lucked out. sweatdrop

KonoSetsuna Whenever I see IVs, I kinda pass out. Soooo... Aaawwwww! That's so cute! *hugglez Kono* Seeing them isn't so bad, but The Duck has been known to .... eh.... " overreact" when the idea of a needle in her arm is suggested. ninja (And by overreact she means hitting people, trying to outrun the nurses down the hallway, stealing the mother persons car and making a daring escape from the hospital, etc..... ninja ninja ninja )
