It was going to be a nippy day, the Pala could already tell. The small creature sat cross-legged in front of the large tree that grew behind the quaint little incense shop he had come from. The sun had slowly been rising up for the past hour or so and he had taken delight in watching the beauty that morning always brang to the sky. A giddy grin spread across his lips as his nimble little fingers continued with what he was doing: making little animals and shapes out of the long, untamed grass sprouting in front of the shop. He had accumulate a large pile of the stuff and had it in a neat pile beside him. He was very good with crafts and so it was really no problem for him to make the cute little creatures. He'd even made a little replica of himself. He was humming a little tune to himself as he did so, currently working on a grass lion to add to the zoo he was building. The song he was humming was something he had made up himself.

A light breeze ruffled his brown fur which was adorned with odd tan markings. His piercing green eyes examined the lion as he brought it up close to them, his glowing blue nose scrunching up scrutinizingly as he examined the object. He was finished with it. With a content little sigh he dropped it into the pile, a big toothless grin still evident on his face. Scooting forewards on his bum a little bit he let himself fall backwards onto the grass, folding his arms behind him like a pillow. It wouldn't be long until other creatures like himself woudl start visiting the shop and he would soon be pining for their company. He let his eyes close and felt another breath of air roll over him. It made the green leaf-like feathers on his head sway into his eyes. He brushed them away.

User ImageLenore was just about to enter the incense shop this bright early morning, when she thought of how nice it would be to sit behind the shop where a large tree grew enjoying the morning air. She slowly padded her way to the back of the shop. Lenore let in the a deep breath of fresh air, it felt so good. It was going to be a truly wonderful day. The sun was shining, the sky was blue spotted with little clouds and the little spring breeze felt refreshing. Spring must be coming at last.

Lenore peeked around the corner towards the large tree that grew there, but there was already a pala lying there with several grass-made animals at his side. Lenore tilted a head a bit, the grass animals looked so cute, she wondered how the pala made them. Come to think of it, the pala was very strange, he looked very Hawaiinish with a growing nose. Of course, Lenore reminded herself, that was how the world went around. She called to the pala,"Hi!"and waved the little hand that was holding the little golden heart.

Time had grown almost nonexsistant as the Pala lay there, merely enjoying the feel of the cool and still slightly dewy grass beneath his fur. He didn't know how long he'd laid there and frankly didn't care. Slowly he opened his eyes, exposing emerald iris' to the sunlight. The familiar shimmer of his bizarre glowing blue nose caught his eye but he had long stopped trying to cross his eyes to look at it. Using his arms he slowly pushed himself up into a sitting position, a yawn creeping out his mouth and into the air. He stretched his arms out above his head, a look of contentedness over his face. As he did so the useless wings on his lower back stretched as well, splaying pink feathers out for the world to see.

Suddenly, his ears perked up. He could hear incredibly faint footsteps coming towards him. Hopping to his feet with a little too much enthusiasm he swayed back and forth flailing his arms about in order to catch his balance. He breathed a sigh of relief when it became evident he wasn't going to topple over. His eyes instantly turned to where he'd heard the sound coming from and he located the source. It was an adorable little baby Pala! His eyes seemed to alight with joy as he looked at the cute thing. "Awww~!" He couldn't help but giggle, his voice not what you'd expect. It was oddly feminine but still held a certain masculine tone that assured you he was in fact male.

At once he did a funny little prance over to the youngster, his grass objects forgotten. As he stood in front of her, not much taller then the babe, he looked at her more closely. He simply adored children and this child was certainly cute. The ribbon wrapped around her body and the little gold heart she toted was hardly more then he could stand. "Hello!" He responded cheerfully, folding his hands behind his back so he wouldn't attack the creature with his hugs of death. "What's your name? I'm Leilani!" He bowed politely as he introduced himself, never quite taking his benevolant eyes off her.

User ImageLenore looked at the older Hawaiin pala with interest. His nose was glowing a bluish light. She wondered why it was so. The pala had sprang to his feet with such clumsiness that Lenore had to resist the urge to giggle. Instead, she gave a small smile, her violet eyes dancing merrily.

Lenore tilted her head curiously, why was the other pala giggling? Was there something on her face? She wondered if she had a milk mustache from drinking the glass of milk that her owner made her drink. She immediatly used the hand that wasn't holding the gold heart to touch her mouth. There was no soggy milkness there. Trying to pass off the movement, she gave a faint cough. Then she looked back at the pala and said, "My name is Lenore. What's yours?"

He almost immediately detcted the confusion in her eyes and wrinkled his own brows with confusion of his own. Had he said something that was odd? He raised a finger to his chin, casting his eyes upward in though. No he didn't think so. He looked back at her when she coughed, tilting his head to the side curiously. "Lenore~" He let her name roll off his tongue pleasantly. "What an adorable name." He chirped, his yellow tail swaying back and forth in the manner a dog's might when it was excited. It froze as he payed attention to her next question, a tad confused by it. Perhaps she forgot I just gave it to her...He pondered in his head, raising a mental brow. That's so cute.

A big smile overtook his face as he responded, "I am Leilani." This time he said it a bit slower so she could catch it this time. He scratched his glowing blue nose and then fiddled with the feathers coming down into his eyes. After that he fell backwards onto his bum, crossing his legs indian style and curiously looking at Lenore.

User Image"Thank you."Lenore said happily happily flapping her wings, causing a few cream colored feathers to fall to the ground. She looked at them as they fell, it was quite interesting that they sort of just floated down towards the ground, instead of just dropping like a rock. She looked up at the brown pala as he started to speak again.

"Oh. That's a nice name."said Lenore a bit embarrassed that she hadn't paid attention the last time he had said it. She looked at the ground and noticed the grass made animals and squeeled delightedly. "Leilani, how did you make them? They look so cute!"She asked looking up at the adult pala with her violet eyes dancing.

The kindly brown pala watched in amusement as Lenore cheerfully flapped her wings about. His eyes too watched the small feathers drift to the ground. When she spoke he raised a hand to his mouth to stifle a small laugh. "Thank you, m'dear." Leilani chirped, blood going to his cheeks as it always did when he was complimented. If you shaved his face you'd be able to note that he was always blushing even when whatever had made him do so was quite trivial. He followed her eyes until his gaze came across the pile of inanimate grass objects he'd been working on earlier. At once an exicted smile crossed his and he sprang up, taking a few steps towards the pile until he was towering right over it.

His small fingers found one that took on the shape of a hummingbird. He'd taken the long petals of a nearby blue flower he'd found and carefully wove it into the grass to give it a pretty splash of color. Only looking at it a moment longer he turned his grin to Lenore. He set it down carefully, hopping over the pile and to the collection of long grass he'd collected earlier. A thoughtul scowl crossed his face as he gathed up about five strands of about the same length. He made his way back to Lenore and plopped down in front of her again. He let the grass settle in his lap before quickly picking up two pieces and beginning to weave them together. His fingers worked as fast as lightning, faster then you'd think possible. The shape of what he was making soon took form: it was a small crown.

Stopping his work he leaned forewards. His delicate fingers plucked the soft, small feathers that had fallen from Lenore's wings earlier and gently, with the utmost care, weaved them into the small and very ornate crown. Now it had splashes of white, just like the little pala did. He reached back and retrieved the small humming bird. Using a blade of grass he snapped in two with his small teeth he tethered it to the side of the ground so it would look like it was hovering just beside her head. It took him perhaps all of five minutes to craft it. When he was finally satisfied with his work he held it in front of his face, his small tongue poking form the side of his mouth as he looked it over.

It was done! His face lit up again as he offered the thing to her. "It may look fragile but it's actually quite hardy," He announced with a note of pride in his voice. "I can teach you how to do it, if you'd like~" He proposed.

User ImageLenore looked interestingly as Leilani worked on something. The little pala was amazed by how fast Leilani's hands worked, making masterpieces. She wondered what Leilani was going to do when he picked some pieces of grass and weaving them together. She tilted her head slightly, it looked like a tiny crown. Lenore watched the brown pala lean forward and pick up the feathers that she herself had scattered on to the ground. She stared in wonder as he weaved the feathers into the crown and retrieved the little grass humming bird, then causing it to look like it was just fluttering right beside the crown.

Lenore squeeled delightedly as she took the crown. It was so beautiful, a work of art, a masterpiece. "Thank you. ♥" She said still in awe of the little crown, she gently placed it onto her own head, and continued, "I would love it if you teach me how to do it, but I doubt that I would be as good as you. You are absolutely amazing!"She said happily as her violet eyes danced happily.

Leilani's eyes glimmered merrily at the small Pala's reaction. He had certainly hoped she'd like it and it seemed she had! His yellow-splashed tail made arc-like motions at a furious pace behind his rump signifying just how pleased he was. "You are most certainly welcome!" He chirped, watching her place it on her head and then hopping back a little to admire it. "Tres magnifique~" He commented with a lop-sided grin. It did suit the small creature, he had hoped he hadn't made it too big. He scratched his nose, shaking his head as she spoke. "No no no, don't speak like that!" He said briskly but his tone still overflowed with his friendly nature.

"I will teach you to be better then I." He placed a hand to his brown chest in determination and looked down at her. "You've got the look of a true master." He nodded vigorously as if agreeing with himself. He turned around on the balls of his heels, looking to the thin pile of grass he'd collected just that morning. It wasn't enough. "I shall be right back, young Lenore, as I am going to fetch more grass!" And with that he was disappearing around the store with the speed of a cheetah, it seemed like. In what seemed like just a moment he was trundling back towards Lenore, his arms filled up with the very long and wild-looking strands.

He placed them in a neat pile besides him and then plopped down, crossing his legs out before him. He patted the ground to his left. "Come, sit." He offered her a grin and then turned to the pile of grass, plucking a nice long one from the mix and then another. Once she was settled he turned to her, obviously ready to explain to her the art of grass-thing-making. "It's all in the fingers," He started. His fingers idly twirled the grass strands around while he did so. He stopped and began to braid them carefully together. "But the most important thing is to be /careful/. Grass is a fragile thing. Ya follow?"

User ImageLenore giggled happily at Leilani's lop-sided grin, it looked extremly funny. "Yes, sir."She said giving him a little salute. Her usual hyperness was coming back to her from being fully awake now. Her owner had often complained about it, being that Lady couldn't exactly see what to be so hyper about with all the homework and projects she got. She deemed that Lenore had eaten too much sugar.

"Really?"said Lenore curiously, she never actually considered herself as having enough portential to become a true master of something. She followed the other pala's gaze to the pile of grass and nodded when he told her that he was going to fetch some more grass. In a flash, he was back with lots of grass. She was rather surprised on how fast he was.

Lenore looked over Leilani's shoulder as he started to carefully braid the strands of long grass together. "Yes, sensei."She said smiling as she did placed her paws together and did a little bow.

Amused, Leilani placed his own paws together and returned her bow. All the while he was careful not to smoosh the thing he was making between his small fingers. After that was all good and done he began to work again. It was a very simple thing: a necklace that had an incredibly simple design. It was always good to start off nice and easy. He went very slow as to show Lenore exactly what he was doing and would occasionally voice out a tip or two such as, "It's best to work slowly at first, to get used to how delicate the grass it." He finished the small object in about four minutes. Like he said, it was really easy. Satisfied with his work he placed it around his neck.

"Alright, now it's your turn." He fished out two medium-sized blades of the tall wildgrass and handed them to her. Then he retrieved two for himself. "We'll do this together~" He said, smiling. Being a teacher was fun! He hoped he wasn't going too fast for the Pala. His brow furried in worry at the thought. "And don't hesitate to ask questions or tell me to slow down!" he insisted, the smile being put back on his face almost at once.

User ImageLenore giggled when Leilani returned her bow. Nobody ever did that with her, her owners, Lady, always was too exhausted with her homework to play around with Lenore much. Then Lenore peered over Leilani's shoulder as he started to braid a necklace. It looked rather easy the way that he braided slowly. Lenore nodded that she understood when Leilani mentioned a tip or two. When he was finished, Lenore gasped happily, the necklace with a rather simple design looked absolutely perfecto.

When Leilani handed her two blades of grass, she nodded and took them as she plopped herself down next to her teacher. "Yes, sir."said Lenore trying to do a little salute, but failing to do so with her hands full of glass and only succeeded in poking her head with an end of grass. She beamed happily aside from her mistake and got her grass together the way Leilani had put them.

Leilani laughed as Lenore poked herself, slowly beginning to weave the same thing he'd just woven a moment earlier when she sat down beside him. On occasion he'd kindly utter an instruction or when something got tricky he'd go extra slow. She was doing rather well and he was pleased. He noticed the ribbon she toted with her again and suddenly curiousity grew within him. Stopping his work for a minute and cracking his little fingers he asked, "So why do you carry around that pretty little heart?"
PostPosted: Thu May 08, 2008 2:23 pm

User ImageLenore concentrated on trying to weave the blades of grass together. After a few minutes, all that her grass looked like was like a complex array of knots and causing it to look like a blob more than anything else. As she looked over at Leilani's handiwork, she noticed that he had stopped and asked a question. She blinked her violet eyes, this was a question that must people always asked her, she finally muttered,"Well, it is the only object that my parents gave to me befoer they disappeared....."Lenore sighed and continued,"I feel that it if I always carry it, my parents will somehow see me and be happy. I never actually knew them....." She shook her head, trying to shake off her sadness and managed to pull on a bright smile. She help up her little blob of an necklace and asked rather embarrassed,"Some help here...?"

Leilani looked at her in concern as he had felt the atmosphere take a sudden turn for the worse. It had grown more tense and he felt like he shouldn't have asked. Lots of people probably did and maybe it was for a reason that was personal...he wanted to kick himself for being so nosey. He set down what he was working on and looked at her with a thoughtful scowl before leaping up and collecting her in a big bear hug, even though she'd just asked him for his assitance. He didn't say anything and set her down carefully a moment later, giving her a big heartfelt grin and then sitting down in front of her again. He looked at her handywork with amused eyes.

"Not bad for a beginner!" He laughed, but it wasn't in a mocking fashion whatsoever. "We all gotta start somewhere, right?" He put the somewhat sorry shape down and got himself new materials. It was much better to start fresh. He slowly, and very painstakingly, showed her how to make it again. He wasn't impatient at all and didn't mind one single bit. After all, she'd have had to have been some sort of prodigy to get it on her first try. "You'll get it eventually, I know you will." His words seemed to radiate warmth as he smiled at her.
